a bizarre decision
not entirely surprising according to a decent source the chairman has already sacked him twice this season only to be persuaded the next day to not do it

From wikipedia
Mauricio Roberto Pochettino Trossero (born 2 March 1972) is an Argentine retired footballer who played as a central defender, and recently and
outrageously
named the new manager of Southampton FC.

Too bad Southampton have already played Chelsea. Could have had both sets of fans shouting for their manager to be sacked.

Who will have matched that bet?
I can tell you who. A racing professional whoo is at the course with a seven second advantage over the ATR pictures, a guy who is paying premium charge and winning every year at racing, who has the opinion that this horse is greater than 50% to win the race.
Should we be getting into bets with him. It's an exchange, you can't pick who you match against, but you can effect it a little. If you play in premier soccor matches at kick-off you are more likely to be matching versus amateurs than pros (you may be playing in a market that is "correct" but that's another thing).
Guaranteed though if you play on racing in-running you are taking way the worst of it. If you are doing it blind by putting in lays , because you just can't take it when they take the wrong course, fall at the last etc, you are 100% paying a large charge for all that extra sleep you get at nights.
Keith and I have a good friend who discovered that arbing on Betfair against the betting-shops on horses was a better career than poker for him.
Afre three years, (a few years ago), he had more money than he has ever had. He was unwelcome in every betting-shop in the country and he had a team of agents. His Betfair account was losing £600k.
We had a word with him. He said it suited him and he liked to know he couldn't lose.
You never go skint taking a profit.
When I was a racecourse bookmaker I did a tissue. I stuck to it religously. I hedged if I had a cash-flow issue (some bets were credit, others cash), and if a horse I had laid drifted to a bigger price. I did ok at racecourse bookmaking. I did very badly at buying racecourse pitches before anyone says "what does he fucking know about bookmaking?".
I am not a total 1000% never green out guy. I definitely do it if the new price is a bet and I usually go the other way. I also agree with Phil. If I was on MVG at 80/1 and I could lay him at 1.22 I might hedge even if I thought he should be 1.2 as these are quite small margins and I could be wrong in my 1.2 assesment. I didn't see too much of that happening there. I heard people saying they were greening-up at 12/1 and even 16/1 having taken 33/1. The things that he had to do to go 4/1 after that seemed easier to do than the things he did to go from 80/1. I think those people were trigger-happy and they didn't really think about what they were doing.
I backed MVG at evs and at 2-2 I bet 7-2 at 20/1. I had big bets on each and I gave no thought to any business I did before the final. I thought they were good bets.

hmm, maybe I misheard? Seems strange that he's done OK in Spain and they'd say that it was his first job.
Blame me, carry on!

Completely agree with this. He's not a bad manager and will cope with limited resources.
But Adkins had lost 2 in 12 and the team was playing well again.
Smacks to me if the board having sounded him out a few weeks ago when things were bad and the wheels having been set in motion for too long to stop. This is never true of course but chairmen have been known to do that.
That or there is more to this.

at least we don't get a week or more of seeing the usual suspects (Hughes, Bruce, Keane et al) suggested as new manager.

According to Oddschecker most bookies have not done their homework on Sheffield Wednesday and most likely top scorer.
Wednesday was good value for our win against Hull at the weekend and are the form team in the division against the least in form team in the division in the shape of Wolves.
I fully expect us to be playing the exact same side that played against Hull which would mean our bright spark and actual right midfielder playing up front in the shape of Micail Antonio. He's is priced up at a very juicy 9/1 and this is definite value considering I am confident he will be playing up front, rather than his usual right wing role. He is actually 11/2 in a couple of places, so suggesting we have a decent price here.
Rec first goalscroer @ 9/1 @ £10.

India v England Third ODI, tomorrow.
It seems that Pujara will not be selected again, though Dhoni picked up an injury & is not 100% certain to be fit.
A Fred
bugger
seems to be in order.
