It is a very long walk from Seven Sisters at the best of times.

When Seven Sisters Tube Station first opened, it was the northern terminus of the Victoria Line, as it was built in stages, & the Walthamstow section had not been completed. I was 21 at the time, & a regular visitor to WHL as well as Highbury.

The Main Line station to which it is attached has been there a little longer though since 1872 I believe.

Fascinating stuff, eh?

Were you there the season we won the double?

Frequently. Radford & Kennedy, oooh.

Funnily enough I remember that season as a schoolboy when you won your opening match 6-0(possibly v Luton?) and thinking oooh spurs are top of the league now ha ha.

That was some team with Blanchflower, Makay, White, Smith et al.

I paid £25 (which was a fortune for a ticket in those days) for a seat behind a big pole at WHL for the final double-clinching First Division fixture against the old enemy.

Alan Mullery was their captain and played a stormer as though his life depended on it.

Goal average was used as opposed to goal-difference these days and when we took a 1-0 lead through Ray Kennedy the situation was still incredibly fraught as if they had equalised we would have lost the title to Leeds. 0-0 would have won us the title and 1-1 we'd have lost it.

Happily we held on but only just as Mullery very nearly equalised just before the final whistle.

Really was. They're probably the reason I'm a spurs fan, as dad grew up seeing that team on the TV and, as is the way with kids, he decided to support them, despite being a brummie born and bred. I was taken to the villa-spurs games as a boy and then there were Italia 90 with Gazza and Linekar and the 91 FA cup final. I was hooked.

Mackay arguably made Cloughie's career, as he said he could never believe spurs let him go. 67/68 I think, after we won the cup. He was said to have a smoke at half time.

Cost us £32,000 and we let him go for £5,000.

Five thousand pounds!

I can't believe I let that Tikay comment go either, but I'm feeling generous Smiley

The only piece of trivia I have about Alan Mullery is he was the first person to be sent off for England.

The poles on the East Stand (the shelf) are still there. I sit in that stand myself when I go.

Bullet header from a corner, keeper had no chance.
Apparently lots of Weds fans can't believe they let him go and ofc
see how good he's doing for us.
Rovers just bossed the game today, nice footy as well.
There was a coachload of O's fans, dunno how they thought they could get the Olympic Stadium.

That post was in regard to donny rovers goal and Rob Jones,
mainly aimed at rfgqqqqqqqqqabc

reminds me of the old guy who played for our local division 2 side every thursday

he had been playing for at least 50 years and basically kept on playing until the bitter end . Towards the end he could not pot for toffee but knew every "angle" and safety in the book.

he always without fail played the young kiddie on the other side who was just starting out and was a decent player but was not prepared for a two hour frame

good memories

Haha, my dad let me start playing in our county league when I was about 11 years old and it took me a season or two to get accustomed to the old foxes Cheesy

his favourite thing to do was when he potted a fairly simple red and had a fairly easy black on was to get the black safe as early as possible Smiley

" he wont get to far ahead now lads"

Love it Horse, when getting a decent start in a match the first thing I did after potting a red was put one of the big colours safe. This only changed if I had a pretty easy pot on the colour. As soon as the other guy starts moaning you know you have the upper edge.

yes he loved it

i must admit i was only 17 at the time and me and my best mate did not always appreciate a frame lasting at least 60 minutes when it was already 10.45pm and another match due on

He used to be a very good county player in his youth and now i can appreciate the incredible determination he had to win every single frame.

We also had another old guy who played the opposite and would play like stevie wonder for half the frame then all of a sudden smash a few in and nick the odd frame. He also told me the same story about when he "met" Tommy Cooper every week without fail for four years

Very interesting. At our end, all the signs are he's staying, so I'd quite to know what's going on!

I expect either Thud or Livermore to leave on loan (prob the latter to QPR) and definitely if Holtby comes early. Would also like assou-ekotto playing well, but not sure exactly whether AvB rates him.

Podolski and the Ox are both out injured for the Gunners today.

It'd be great to see a strong 90 minutes from Diaby a la Anfield performance..

Ive always said it will be a cold day in hell before The Donkey Diaby wins us a match.................it is pretty chilly out there........

Be really pleased if that happens. In Levy we trust.

this reminds me of an old boy in the local club. He knocked out the club pro by the name of Mattew Couch in a handicap match in contraversial circumstances. Johnny had managed to put all the high colours  in un pottable positions through out the match and had made quite a pigs ear of the table. They were down to the last red and Matthew had already started to claw the many snookers he needed with some expert play and use of the free ball rule.

Johnny was a wiley old wascal, goes down to shoot at the last red and blasts it, jumps up and leaves his cue on the table wedged in the pocket. Of course the red comes off 3 cushions hits Johnny's cue and runs into the pocket.
Uproar ensues and despite Matthews insistence the red gets re spotted the ref disagrees and Matthews head just goes.

I wish Matthew had not sold the club to my mate G-Man. G-man barred me for life within a week of owning the club. Go figure, me getting a ban.
