A little history, if I may:
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Norris_(businessman)#section_2
This is one of the most questionable characters in football history. Banned from all football for life for illegal payments, Sir Henry is most famous for his role in the reason there is a North London rivalry.
In 1915, it is understood the league wanted to expand after the war. Spurs had finished bottom but it was expected as the league would be two teams larger when it started again, that they would stay in the top flight.
What happened in a board meeting in 1919 isn't exactly known. Sir Henry was there and his Arsenal side (who had finished 5th in the second division) found themselves starting the 1919 season in the top flight and spurs being relegated.
Sir Henry had already moved Arsenal from south of the river to some church-owned land because he was close friends with the Archbishop of Canterbury. He wanted to create a superclub by merging Woolwich Arsenal with Fulham (he was on both boards simultaneously and had rejected the chance to play from Stamford Bridge), as Arsenal were struggling financially. He wanted to challenge the midlands and northern clubs, too. His new location was very close to Spurs and Clapton Orient but there were no rules in those days about where you could put a club.
United and Liverpool had been accused of fixing the last game of the 1915 season and rumours abound that Norris had threatened to expose them, although it is one of many speculations. Others mainly relate to Norris, other people in that meeting and money.
The North London rivalry was born.

I think Guy was wondering if the 3-1 shot mentioned by the journo was a price that was available somewhere.
Very much this, how can I not say a price when it says 3/1 in the journo report? Thought what I said was clear? That I anticipated it was bad journalism, but if not it seemed like a lay at 3/1 if available?
Perhaps I'll just stick with darts, this thread obv for pros only!

Doobs though you were referring to him winning the thing, which you said was merely '2nd fav', hence the comment about no price.

TBF I've found exactly the same problem in the recent past and this thread has taught me why.
I'm used to using betfair, where for for every price there is a lay nearby, so if a price is 3/1, there should be at least 7/2 for a lay floating about.
The normal bookies don't tend to offer lay prices like that, tho. So you have to find a lay somewhere and it isn't always anywhere near the bet price.
If I'm getting this right, one way of doing it is to put a lay up on betfair at the price you want to get (say 70 for 20) and then let someone take it.
Hope this helps.

Morning Guy.
Quite the complete opposite.
By accident or design, this is a thread where ice creams like you & me, & many many others, learn from a bunch of pros who have, over the last 13 months, unloaded a whole bunch of stuff which most of us never previously realised or understood.
Those who followed it from the outset, assuming they leave their egos at home, & are reasonably intelligent, MUST be winning now, there is so much stuff here.
I would strongly recommend you set aside an hour or two each day to try & work through the thread from the start. Pay particular attention to the frequent sermons from the likes of (in no particular order) redarmi, Camel, Neil Channing, Bobby1, admndv, & several others. Then look at how our most successful tipsters, guys like Doobs, Tighty, hector, horsey & others construct & research their suggestions. Absorb all that & you will be a winning punter.
PS - I cannot see a market to miss the cut in The Masters, but we would not really expect a random BBC Journo to be clued up on these things. Personally, I'd be wary of Rory, he has shown in the past that he is capable of extremes of form. He is a great, gifted, genius even, golfer, & he'll click soon enough, that talent does not disappear overnight. For now, I'd avoid getting with him or against him.
Lots of folks made money getting against Liverpool for a goodly while, that chapter is probably over now, though the bookies still over-rate them.
There are some great spots to get against players in Snooker though, there are some aged veterans who are just going through the motions, there is value to be had if you can spot them.

Really?
Oh my, wonderful.
Home & hosed with 25% of the season remaining.
Great spot by Dwayne.
Softens the York top 7 bet, haven't won agame since I recommended!
Don't worry about that Dwayne, assuming the York bet goes south, those two bets cost £70, & returned £220. If we could do that once or twice a week we'd be fine.

Morning Mr T.
In rugby league today Hull KR host Warrington. Hull KR are capable of good performances but do not have the depth of squad to do it week in week out. Playing at home against the big teams seems to bring out the best in them. Last season they beat Warrington, drew with Leeds and lost by a score to Wigan and St Helens. To expect Warrington to in by more than 2 scores today is a big ask. If things click for Warrington they could do it as they are the best team in Super League at present. But without their top try scorer I will take Hull KR with the 14 point start.
Suggest £22 Hull KR + 14 @ 10/11 Ladbrokes or Betfred

Guy,
I missed one name from that list of people to follow.
Chompy.
Always ignore his advice, EXCEPT when it is for Boydy.

PLAYER A
Lets assume Player A is on good form, very good, playing well and has scored lots of goals in the last 12 months, infact he has 20 Premier League goals in 29 games in 2012, impressive stuff. He also has 12 International goals for a good, well respected country in the last 12 months or so. Player A also likes Tulips.
PLAYER B
Lets assume Player B is also on good form, very good, playing well and has scored lots of goals in the last 12 months, infact he has 14 Premier League goals in 26 games in 2012, impressive stuff. He also has 12 International goals for a good, well respected country in the last 12 months or so. Player B likes Norfolk.
Player A does play for a better club side though, but perhaps this countered by the fact he will get less minutes on the pitch through being rested etc, Player B's side does not have this luxury.
Both Player A & B have 8 Premier League goals this season.
Player A is
2/9
to hit 20 Premier League goals this campaign.
Player B is
9/2
to hit 20 Premier League goals this campaign.
One of the above prices is way way out. Discuss.
How about that for a shrewd spot?

Daily Summary, @ 0815, Sunday March 3rd
We made a profit of £177.50 yesterday.
Only ONE bet completed - the amazing tip by Dwayne, all those months ago, (seee above), for Suarez to scoire 20 or more Premiership Goals. (+£180).
We also took the additional £2.50 Loss on the Noh misclick, as correctly advised by Messrs Galloway & GUKPT Winner Barraclough.
A weirdly quiet Saturday for Fred - we never placed a single new bet, & the thread was very quiet. But if there are no standout bets, we should not bet.
Not much lined up for today, either, just a RL bet, but we have plenty of stuff in progress.

Last night's result......
Portland 52 - Gonzago 81.
No idea what that means overall, but it can't be bad.
Gonzago are now offered at 15/2, 8/1, 17/2, & in one spot (Ladbrokes) 10/1, & we are on at 33/1.
