Just to add some more wood to the fire. I have done a couple of 2 x2 bets starting with the supreme hurdle race ( 1/4 odds first 5).
Think this is a cracking way of trying to get some place money onto later selections, could even do 3 x 2 bets .
Anyone ellse playing the race this way?? really thinks its good for ew doubles

Hills now go 15/8 MTOY.......
Now backed it each way. With all the other bets, I was getting a bit light on MTOY! We are obviously too late to take the 4/5 Quevega as we are already well invested, but added to my own bets.
I think betting should be profitable, fun shouldn't be the main consideration. I don't really think it should be a consideration at all, though you'd have to be pretty odd to at least not smile at getting one over on the bookies.
Given we bet £250 on the 9ers, £90 on Quevega and £100 on spurs, it seems reasonable to bet a bit more than the "max" on this race. Once you have backed 7, you are certain to get something back, so it isn't like you are risking the max. This is barring some freak event such as a mass pile up, and assuming that one of the absolute rags gets placed. So if we back 6 as proposed (I understand we already have MTOY), then you have to be extremely risk averse/pessimistic to be thinking that getting nothing back is something we should seriously worry about.
I can fully understand the wish to cut down on £600 though, and I don't as a rule like breaking maximums. But on this one special occasion, when William Hill are underound the place betting by something like 34%, then £250/£300 seems fine.
Thread chief risk officer.
Thanks FCRO.
So now we are light on YTOM.......
I was light on MTOY, thread has 17/1??
No - I have 19/1 (WIN) off-thread on my own account, as it were, NOT Fred. If I have said otherwise on thread, apologies, it was an error, but I don't recall doing so.
The Compliance Officer would take a dim view of me transferring that bet retrospectively across to Fred.

I am not, but doing an each way double with a good e/w race such as the Quevega race is clearly a decent bet. Though given what I have already done, I think I am already exposing myself to quite a risk of an account closure at Hills, without pushing them too far.
I also don't think we should push tikay too far.

Fair point, donning my compliance officer hat, I would take a dim view of this!
Putting on my common sense hat, given it is all your own money, then I don't think you need to worry about topping up MTOY. No point in exposing yourself too much just to make the fred account look better.
Good luck.

MTOY - NO, the MTOY bet Fred has is WIN ONLY.
I have backed the Favoured Five as follows, but I have NOT had any EW on MTOY, who is now quoted @ 15/8.
These 5 bets are ALL additional to our existing portfolio, & are all EW.
Cheltenian, £20 EW @ 20/1
Cause of Causes, £20 EW @ 25/1
Puffin Billy, £30 EW @ 12/1
Champagne Fever £70 EW @ 4/1
Jezki, £70 EW @ 9/2
All with William Hill, quarter odds, BOG, FIVE places paid.
ON
12 Mar 13 / 11:52 Single (EW) 1 1:30 Cheltenham – Win Cheltenian @ Guaranteed Price (20/1) – £40.00 O/0457483/0000312/F
12 Mar 13 / 11:59 Single (EW) 1 1:30 Cheltenham – Win Cause Of Causes @ Guaranteed Price (25/1) – £40.00 O/0457483/0000311/F
12 Mar 13 / 12:08 Single (EW) 1 1:30 Cheltenham – Win Puffin Billy @ Guaranteed Price (12/1) – £60.00 O/0457483/0000310/F
12 Mar 13 / 12:15 Single (EW) 1 1:30 Cheltenham – Win Champagne Fever @ Guaranteed Price (4/1) – £140.00 O/0457483/0000309/F
12 Mar 13 / 12:23 Single (EW) 1 1:30 Cheltenham – Win Jezki @ Guaranteed Price (9/2) – £140.00 O/0457483/0000308/F

Can't add anything constructive to the Cheltenham discussions, but appreciate all the input from people who know best.
Planned a low key start to the week, but thanks to people who know best, feels like I'm up to my nuts before we get going.
Goodness knows what I'm cheering on in the first one.

AND this.
Think I want everything to be in the first 5 except the two proper rags.
Can't lose, they said.

ctually the overround in the place book will be massive. if its 36% at Hills early prices (cos tey are worst in the village evrything)
If the SPs are similar to oddshecker now (aboput 110%) the place book will be about 290%!!!!!! paying 500 which is unbelievable.
Ive been schlepping round the shops all morning.
Backed everything ew except MTOY - will prob lay all the win money off on BF for a 10%loss - sit back watch the race knowing im getting 400/290 for ny money and hoping MOY yours falls for the extra!!!
delicious

That has been part of my own problem really - I've done my "own" betting already. YTOM at a good price, then I did 3 horses last night on the 5 places thing, so it all gets a bit complicated.
Anyway, all done now, what will be will be, & if it all goes wrong, I'll not blame anyone. *
* Dubai, Camel, redarmi, Doobsd, bobby excepted.
Good luck to you, too, doobs, see you tonight at The Vic for the Post Mortem. Assuming I still have enough funds to enter.

http://www.oddschecker.com/football/champions-league/barcelona-v-ac-milan/to-qualify
Milan won 2-0 in the first leg
Did an absolute number on Barcelona tactically at the San Siro, denied the top 3 space and time. Messi hardly had a kick
If they can score 1, Barc need to score 4 to go through
Barca can score 2 in normal time and still not be assured of getting through
Barca's form has also been patchy
Isn't 4/6 just a great price Milan to qualify?*
* assuming thread has any money left come 5pm
