Thx Snowy, on at 33-1.

Was impressed by him when he gave MVG a scare in the worlds and this looks a good time to back him.

Recommend £60 on Northampton vs Torquay at 5/6.

Northampton have incredible home form, and play 4th bottom in the table. I've looked at the local papers and a few other sources and just cannot understand the price at all. We beat betfair/pinnacle by a tiny amount (they are 13/16)

edit: Worst case probably a decent chance to help your PP or another restrictive firm- if the bet gets no love something like £30 or £24 helps the account image and is as close to b/e as possible if the betfair price is correct.

Awful news that JT McNamara has been paralysed by the fall at Cheltenham.

Dreadful.

What a reality check.

Was hoping against hope it would not be so from the outset.

Poor chap.

Not sure if they are same family, but you may recall a few years ago JP Macnamara also suffered a paralysing fall. It was on one of Rogers, and he was devastated as the owner, and paid much of his expenses until much later.

Terrible news

That is truly awful news about JT McNamara.

It also highlights the risks these jump jockeys take daily.

Aronian has blundered and lost a drawn game against Kramnik. Carlsen is fighting but Ivanchuk is playing arguably his best game of the tournament. Both are getting short of time, so it will be a grandstand finish.

Yeah I feel he's not had the best luck with draws since he's improved his game the past year.

We need a draw to stay level top, then?

But.....we still have a couple of relatively easy games to come, iirc.

All correct.

Both short of time, now.

Ivanchuk just blundered to allow Carlsen a draw...but Carlsen also missed it!

This is a nasty sweat.

Carlsen has lost.  New favourite in the chess.  Chessbase stats fella pwns Sad

Carlsen has been beaten and is now ½ a point behind Kramnik.

Chessbase - a chess news website - has given an immediate reaction. From it, the following is particularly interesting:

It was perhaps the result of having been forced into passivity throughout the game, or feeling the game held no real danger, but the world number one played the endgame almost lackadaisically, as if no danger could befall him. Vassily Ivanchuk may have sensed this, and continued to milk the position exactly as Magnus had done to so many opponents: patiently working on microscopic advantages, extending chances for his rival to underestimate the risk. By move 45, it was no longer wishful thinking, and the grandmasters began to wonder whether even Carlsen might not lose this. It seemed unthinkable, but there it was. The Ukrainian never let go. By move 60 it was clearly won, and he made no mistakes in avenging so many losses and key games in the past.

It really has been an utterly remarkable tournament, as much for the drama as the chess.

We don't need a miracle and panicking is premature. Carlsen doesn't lose often and he absolutely hates it. Expect a reaction tomorrow, I'd suggest.
