Tighty, a project for your juice-gushing stat glands:

England's team today is

Cook
Root
Trott
Pietersen
Bell
Bairstow
Prior
Broad
Swann
Finn
Anderson

A total of 16 syllables.

Has a test team ever had fewer?

Go away, Tal.

10-1 may be value, but I really don't fancy Southampton to struggle.  I'd rather back Newcastle/Sunderland to go down.

Bound to get roasted but such is life.

I get very confused on here. Someone has identified a value bet, best price and beats betfair. This selction does both. Most of the time, when suggested by shall we say, more prominent members, it would be a no brainer. Done in minutes.

I understand it's not fancied by a few, but then so have loads of selections, but thay have still been placed under the "value"  banner, usually according to who you are.

I have done on the betting principles I have learnt on here, so it bothers me not if it is done or not, I also quite like the price anyway, but would welcome all thoughts as to what people should be looking for, so as to prompt less rebuffery

Have to agree with those surprised Southampton are 10/1, I wouldn't wanna lay anyone more than . Main drawback to the bet is the three that came up will all struggle, but after those three I'd put Southampton in the group next most likely to do. Would certainly say much more likely than Newcastle, may be wearing black n white tinted spectacles, but happy to bet that one hu

Derry Matthews at 11/10 with Boyles is way too big. Only other bookie to have it priced up is PP and they go 4/6 Mattews which is much closer to the mark. Matthews has plenty of experience at British title level. Coyle is taking a pretty big step up and is never the favourite here. 1/100 Matthews goes off odds on. Recommend £80 on Matthews at 11/10.

No you are correct.  If it's value, it is value, irrelevant of what I/we think will actually happen.  I guess I just disagreed with the claim that they "fit" the profile of a relegation candidate which I think they certainly don't.

10-1 seems a value price indeed.

Tighty agree with your Swann stuff, it's 10/3 at Padraig Power. I think Anderson is a danger, wouldn't take Broad over Swann would u? Jow Root 25/1 took wickets in the warm up game!!

My point too really

the phrase was glibly made that they fit the profile of a relegation candidate without any exposition as to why

In fact they fit the profile of a team that is looking to step up. Ambitious board, manager, the best young players such as Schnederlin and Lallana signing new contracts because they like the plans to go forward again. If there were not these plans these players would be moving on and up to bigger things

I agree that they are currently a similar proposition to have a bad season as say Swansea, West Brom, maybe West Ham. If these teams are 7-1 and Southampton is 10-1, then fine. Price looks good

Would have Hull and Palace in the bottom 4 or 5, and in reality there are not going to be three relgation places to go at. I'd also have Fulham, Stoke and Sunderland down there..Aston Villa about to lose 40% of their goals from last season

So that's six teams (ignoring Cardiff who will grind it out and Newcastle where I see last season as an aberration) and we have no idea until the end of August what the shape of this Southampton squad that the owners want to invest in will be..

but yes, in a vacuum on their premier league history and size etc etc, 10-1 looks good.

England need a total to put Swann in the game Jeff

No point getting 250 first up as you need to bat for two days, let the pitch wear and bring spin into it

If we assume England get a total, then I'd have Anderson/Swann co-favourites (Anderson would have been carnage this morning with the swing) may be 2-1 each, Broad 7/2 Finn 4/1 etc

but if England don't have that total, Anderson is the favourite.

Whilst I don't fancy them to go down, by profile he obv means the "second season syndrome" and don't think id wanna be laying much 10-1

The cycling match bet tip was excellent btw, couldn't get on but surely ranks in one of the best bets we have had on here in a while
