Was talking over the NBA Rookie of the Year betting with a friend in Vegas, he's not a massive fan of the boy Kelly, doesn't think his game is good enough, doesn't mind MCW, our other pick. He's a fan of Ben McLemore, but I think we should leave those bets as is for now.

Interestingly, he did mention he's very keen on a guy for the Heissman trophy. I know so little about American football I couldn't remember if this is NFL or college, but my friend is a massive college sports fan (who runs a betting site/pro gambler) so is worth listening to on these things (and the rookies making the big leagues).

He is big on a guy called Marcus Mariota, and recommended I had a small bet at 12-1, 14-1, something round there, which is the price he is in the early betting out in Vegas.

We can get 25s with Bwin (for pennies) and 22s with Coral. I know little about this or him, anyone who does I'd be interested to hear more, but think throwing 10 or 20 quid at this can't do too much harm?

Mariotta is the QB for the Oregon Ducks

Lost on the Heisman to Manziel last year but he was a freshman, and this year on a strong team (Oregon 12-1 last year) should be even better

He is what is called a "dual read" QB like newton, Kaepernick and Robert Griffin and going back Michel Vick..throws but runs just as well

I can't speak to the competition for the Heisman yet, its a way off my radar but Mariota must be in the running

Longy is an Oregon duck, I will link him to this, ask for his opinion

Go Ducks!

Yip I am blondes oregon ducks fan!

Mariota is very much in the johnny Manziel mold, good passer of the ball but is very quick and a good decision maker which is ideal in the "blur" offence that the ducks employ. In fact Manziel was originally committed to oregon before staying closer to home in texas, many have debated that oregon still got the better qb.

Oregon have a new head coach this year with chip kelly going to Philly in the nfl, they have promoted within and gone with offensive coordinator mark helfrich who is expected to keep things roughly the same but maybe with more emphasis on passing the ball.

There are concerns firstly the head coaching change could effect things. Kelly really was the genius behind the most effective offence in college football and made all the offensive play calls, so no one knows how good the ducks will be this year ( they are expected to be ranked in top 5 in the nation in preseason polls probably at 3 behind Alabama and Ohio state).

Also they suffer from east coast bias they play games late in the day and often the voters for the heisman are in bed by the time ducks have hung 50 on someone. Though oregon are very much a national brand in the us now with their entertaining style and flashy uniforms. So Mariota will get plenty of media coverage and is very much a starting nfl qb of the future IMO.

Would certainly get on at 25/1 for someone who is in pretty much every heisman discussion I have seen preseason

Go ducks!

Cheers Jeff, Longy.

A guy next door is a big Mizzou fan and he gave a few guys some Basketball/Football jerseys in Vegas with instructions to start watching!

This is another reason to start watching some college games, so I've had a tickle and put it up over there too... Good luck us Smiley

England 3/1 tonight vs France who have already qualified. I am sure they will rest some players in what is a meaningless game to them but one which #England need to win to progress to the Quarters. Not bad odds for a team that is playing another team with nothing to gain Smiley

The Women's Euro2013?

England have been atrocious in their first two games. I haven't watched the French team.
England will be making changes.
France might get an advantagepus QF draw if they don't lose?

I'm not a football expert by any means so happy to back it if there is any support.

A recent meeting vs the two had England throw a 2-0 lead against a full strength french team. I agree England been poor in the first two games, but England will make changes. Smith upfront with the other one who scored the injury time equalizer against Russia. Hope I believe will lose her job if they do not go through to the quarters.

Listening Guy Mobrays and Lucy wards (the commentators) thoughts they think the same too, if England can't get up for a game like this then I will be surprised.  It's a decent punt at 3/1 for a fiver or something similar.

Yeah, and England looked good for the last 5 minutes of the game against Russia - so they're in form.  Duggan to start as well?

3/1 sounds like a good price for a little punt to me.
