I noticed also that there is another locked thread in the section called Fred's bet.

What is it exactly? Does it only contain which bets are placed everyday?

Exactly that. There were recently concerns of bets getting missed because of the high traffic on here, so now there is a clear record of what's been placed

Could have had the tri-cast Tal. I backed Jack smallish earlier on and had him in a few lucky 15's could yet be a good day.

My NB runs this race at Wincanton but price much bigger than I thought I think Adzy might be on.

Gentle reminder about 6/1 Bromley e/w. Only the second placed team in the league plays today in the league and if they lose the price may be affected. Not trying to hassle, you said it appeared value so only putting up a gentle reminder.

As it is 6/1 and a fifth odds is there for top 3 you only get a miniscule profit for second and third, but I suppose you can look at it like a safety net.

Ooh, well reminded. I never got a clear answer to my question ("why so big a price?") but we ARE ON, I just forgot to Update.

Details later, busy at mo.

My NFL Column this week talks about the Bengals. We are well placed, but there are clouds on the horizon due to injuries

"Cincinnati Bengals at Baltimore Ravens

Every team is dealing with injuries at this point in the season, but the Bengals have been hit with huge injury problems.

All-Pro defensive tackle Geno Atkins went down with a season-ending ACL injury last week to become the fourth defensive starter (along with No. 1 corner Leon Hall, safety Taylor Mays and Defensive End Robert Geathers) to land on the Injured Reserve. Starting middle linebacker Rey Maualuga and Andy Dalton’s blind-side Andrew Whitworth missed last week’s game and will both probably be on the sidelines again this Sunday when the Bengals visit the Ravens.

That said, the Bengals are in a relatively comfortable place in the AFC North standings. They’re 6-3, and the rest of the division — Browns (4-5), Ravens (3-5) and Steelers (2-6) — is a mess. However, a loss on Sunday might open the door for Baltimore to sneak back into the race, especially with a second Bengals/Ravens game on the last game of the season.

The biggest thing working against that potential Ravens revival? They’re just not that good this season. Their biggest issue is the running game which  has resulted in Baltimore averaging a league-low 2.78 yards a carry this year However all the indications are that Ray Rice is finally healthy and ready to have a far more effective second half of the season. With Atkins missing, the stars are aligned for this to begin on Sunday

To see the Ravens priced as 2 point underdogs on the spread to a Bengals team so beat up is an opportunity. The Ravens need to win badly, they are at home and the spread offered reflects the risks"

Haven't had a bet yet but this is also one of the few I like this week.

I think this game may be a good opportunity to introduce Fred to the delights of NFL teasers.  This is a really great game to use in teasers.  Can anyone give me an idea which books Fred has access to offer teasers (if any)

You'll have to explain this to me, Stu. Use short words, please.

Okay - so teasers are bets offered by some bookmakers (they are very popular in the States) in American football and basketball where in return for having to bet more teams you get a better handicap.  In NFL it is generally 6,6.5 or 7 points.  So lets take the example of the Ravens and Denver games.  The Ravens +2 10/11 and Denver are -7 10/11.  In this example you can "tease" Baltimore to +8 and Denver to -1 with a 6 point teaser and they both would have to cover the news spreads for you to get paid at, say, 10/11.  95% of the time in NFL and almost always in college football and all basketball these bets are a bookmakers benefit but there are certain spots where they represent very good value.  Normally this is when you can tease across key pointspreads such as 3 and 7 but also sometimes when the totals are very low and each point becomes worth more.  The more I think about this the more I realise the potential for epic misclickages....and to be honest I am not sure which firms offer them in the UK but they do offer some value in certain spots and I think the Ravens and potentially Tampa Bay and Philadelphia are good "teaser" teams this week.

Tikay can I put up an Anytime scorer bet in the St Johnstone v Kilmarnock game ?

Stevie May is 7/4 with Bet Fred. I thought the correct price was more likely 5/4. Kilmarnock are pretty bad defensively. St Johnstone have improved this year under Tommy Wright and play some good football.  May is the talisman of their attack and can be found taking pens and free kicks he is slo pretty useful in the air and will probably move on to bigger and better things in January or the summer. A better player than Steven Fletcher was at his age imo.

Best prices on football are basically 100% with zero bookie margin. If you take best price any of the 3 outcomes it's incredibly hard to have a very bad bet.

Also what's with the £5ew golf stuff when Fred's roll is £5k or so??? 0.1% of roll each way on decent bets???

Come on!!

Zero Margin by Bookies? That is Level 2 stuff, I need George to begin at Level One.

The £5 Ew is interesting to me though. Does that not suggest the confidence level of the Recommendee - in this case Adzy?

You often suggest small bets, too. Same reason, I imagine?

To be fair, any Elder could answer George's question better than me, but I understand George, he is a friend, & so I answered best I could.

I'd actually LOVE you or any other Elder - or even Chompy - to answer George's question actually. How does it work?

I put the bet up, no idea why Adzy limited me to a fiver e/w.  I was a bit busy at the time, so wasn't paying attention.  Did think we needed about 50 e/w for me to break even on my golf bets.  Sure he's nicked my Jordan Spieth bets too Wink

Most of the bets placed so far seem more like hopeful punts rather than value spots

Romantic Settings and Nicolas Copernicus. That should help you narrow two fields down Wink

How can the second placed team lose today if it's only they who are playing? ;-)

Unlucky. Wasn't much of a sweat done and dusted just after the half hour mark.

Texas A&M play Mississippi State at home today, unlikely to be an upset this imo A&M are 19 point favourites. I actual think Manziel is the most likely candidate for the Heisman that we haven't got covered but Winston is a very comfy favourite now.

Just to rub salt into the wound Mariota has sprained MCL, I have no idea how bad this is and Oregon release zero injury updates but it can't be good! Oregon would need an absolute miracle to make National championship game now, I expect them to be ranked 6 in the BCS standings at the end of the week behind Alabama, FSU, Ohio State, Baylor and Stanford.
