In better tennis news, Djokovic wins in straight sets on his march to Aussie glory.

Will be looking for the right match to back against Murray to please Big Adz.

As you have just said it is about the banter on here that keeps you coming back Tikay. I had a funny conversation with my dad over the phone yesterday. He said that his friend knows someone that knows the brother of Wayne Rooney, and he claims Wayne will definitely be signing for Chelsea by the end of this transfer window. It's 6/1 currently. Solid enough for you? Cheesy

Not a Fred recommend at all, but if it comes in for him it would be really amusing.

Good work Ant, think we should start a new thread, Tips for Ice Creams.

The same source advised Puncheon to put it in the top corner. He meant of the goal rather than the North Stand, tbf.

Smiley

I am still hurting, tis raw, he puts that in and my 11/1 tip would have looked genius, as i think you don't show enough heart to get back into it. The half time rollicking from Sherwood saved you, he even was quoted as saying he did not expect us to be that good in the first half, definitely not a team in the bottom 3. But no finisher of all these chances, so no goals Sad

You have put a lovely taint on the rest of my day now Tal Tongue

A journo in the Sun yesterday described Soldado as "The Torres of North London", questioning how spurs could spend so much money on such a terrible player. 30 goals for Valencia last season and averages a goal every other game in his career, but obviously still terrible Roll Eyes

Anyway, we on this Rooney bet then?

To legitimise the Rooney bet further it is the first time he as ever come to me with 'insider knowledge', and one of only a few times he has ever come to me to ask me to put a bet on generally.

Should probably be 1/2. Smiley Dad got me to load on yesterday.

A lot is riding on this, he is on a shot to nothing to becoming a hero in my eyes.

Fathers become heroes by tipping up transfers?

Tongue in cheek, need to make that clearer it seems! When it appears as if I am saying something that is clearly wrong I am probably being facetious.

He's obv deleted all but the first of those tweets. I will be surprised if he doesn't get fined.

I think it is all fine though as his twitter picture makes up for everything. Superb.

Anyone got any thoughts on the Oscars betting after the Golden Globes last night? Neil C, I think, last year was on the case?

its now 16's
i'll eat my hat if that is not 8's or less at some point of the season
if i'm right u could lay it and have youself a 200 nicker freeroll for a 25 outlay
if i'm wrong i'm eating trilby and chips

snooze and you will lose  Wink

There is a without top 6 market on Betfair, but it looks very weak.  So you aren't going to be able to lay off at 8/1 even if the bookies go that price.  To get the bet away on Betfair, you'd likely have to lay off at a stupid price.  There is nothing free about laying off either, if you do get a £50 bet on to lay off at your bad 8/1 price it would mean tying up £400 for a few months.

The bet looks ok, but we shouldn't be making bad decisions on trading off the back of it.

FWIW I think Trilby is better with brown sauce or mustard.  Ketchup isn't ever hiding the taste.

Who mentioned laying on betfair?
lets not forget its almost certainly a 2 horse race, so backing Everton at a drifted price is the same as laying.....laying is not my plan or recommendation, it was merely an option I pointed out.

In actual fact you could arb a little (for peanuts) right now using betfair as Everton are 1.10 with plenty of 1.09

also trilby is far better with just a sprinkle of cayman pepper and a dash of Worcestershire sauce  Wink

Well it is almost certainly a one hose race, but if we are counting Newcastle as a possible, we should also include Southampton.

If we believe Newcastle are genuine 12/1 shots, and we must if we back them at 16/1 over 5 months, then backing Everton at 1/9 (currently 1.11) must be a terrible bet.  That is the case even if Southampton are really 33/1 chances.  So your actual fact isn't really an actual fact.  You really shouldn't be making bad bets to arb good bets.  Just keep making good bets.  Long run edges are small, so giving up small edges on bets like these by arbing is going to at best reduce your long run profit and at worst make it zero or negative.

Even if backing Everton at the current 1.11 wasn't a terrible bet, tying up hundreds of pounds over 5 months of a 4k bank (or whatever it is) to make 1 or 2 percent is awful too.  That isn't something you should ever be doing with this size of bank.  And we can only get that couple of percent by making the assumption Southampton have zero chance.  Realistically their chance of winning this isn't much bigger than yours.  If I was going to price up a match, I'd probably only make Newcastle slightly odds on.

So considering laying off/backing Everton is terrible either way you look at it.

All this talk of trading/laying detracts from what might be a good bet at 16/1.  The price looks big, but Everton currently look a better side than Newcastle, so even with better fixtures, I'd say Everton are more likely to increase their lead then it decreases.    They might be some margin in the Newcastle 16/1 bet, but it is hard for me to quantify it.  I think we probably have enough on Newcastle long term with the handicap bet, so should probably just leave this one.

Oh, I see - the Bogroll match?

We went with Ladbrokes in the end.

hector suggested boylesports, as they were a better price, 23/10. But they refused to accept my bet, in any sum. I tried for every sum from £20 down, & they would not take it. For the rofl, I typed in £1, & then £0.10, but they were also rejected.

I had not even realised he had "retired, hurt", mid-match.

Good news for those that went with Boylesports though, as they may not have been aware.

It looks like your Boylesports account is no more Sad

As I said, I have been getting that message about risk controls on horse racing bets for a long time with Boyles, and in that time I have probably tried to get on enough bets to conclude I am never ever getting a horse racing bet on with them again.

Given you have the same message about risk controls on reality TV and tennis, then that might well be it for the account.  I assume you got the same message for tennis.

I am not entirely sure on this because Boyles definitely do lay me some bets, just not horse racing ones.

Maybe.

I was just about to have a little chunter that they had not e-Mailed me to inform me, & I just found this in my inbox.....

Hi Tony,

We regret to inform you that we have made changes to the way we administer your sports betting account.

Your account has been restricted. This means you can no longer avail of our fon-a-bet service and sports promotions.

You can still transact via our website and mobile website.

Should you have any queries regarding this change, please contact our customer support team.

If that means what it says - if - my Boyles Account SHOULD still work as normal, EXCEPT for Promos.

Think I might test it shortly. Maybe try & bet £10 on Arsenal tonight, or something similar.
