Snooker Shootout starts today. One frame. Straight knock out. Shot clock. Loud music. Heckling. Red Pepper announcing the clock. Random draw. Players in polo shirts with their rankings on them. Right up tikay's Straße, that

Fancy a few darts at it? 18/1 the field. Real outsiders' comp this. Martin Gould, Nigel Bond and Barry Hawkins have won it.

Ali Carter 33/1 (BetFred, Paddy, Hills) has well known health issues that make the intensity of a longer comp problematic. Maybe this is perfect for him

Basically want someone who isn't going to be drunk and can play reasonably quickly under pressure.

Open to suggestions but this seems like a bit of fun for the weekend.

Wow, looks like a job for Fred's spider.

Do you have to be street-wise to get that funny letter in Straße?

Ok. Starts in an hour or so, I think. I'll throw some out and see whether you fancy them:

Ali Carter 33/1 for reasons stated above
Xu Guodong 40/1 as a quick, talented, heavy scorer
Robert Milkins 50/1 as a quick player who has TV experience
Anthony "The Sheriff of Pottingham" Hamilton 80/1 with bags of experience and a wily tactician

Tenner apiece. Let's get rich.

Tenner each?

£5 EW then.

We did the first three, but the Market had closed before I could get on Anthony Hamilton. Shame, I used to play Anthony, at the Stadium Snooker Club in Notts, back in the day. I'd have been 30 odd years oild, he was about 12 (seriously) & he was a prodigy. Bit of a weirdo, too, in so many ways.

Running Updates please, so we know how we are getting on. I've got a poker session tonight, so can't Post much, but I will keep an eye on the thread.

Good luck, & hope everyone has a grand Friday evening.

PS - Brentford v Gillingham on the telly, too - oooohhhh.

3 BETS PLACED

You played at The Stadium Tony. Really?!?

I was a regular there for a good few years in the 1980's and even played in their "super-league" team for a year or two.

I've known Anthony Hamilton since before he managed to grow any facial hair too.

I was playing Pete at snooker at the golf club a few years ago. Before the girls were born we used to play for £100 per frame, 20 or 30 frames in a session.

I was running well on this particular day and Pete was getting more and more fed up. I potted a black to win another frame and saw Pete walking away from the table towards the bar or possibly the toilet, or so I thought.
I set the table up for the next frame and went to the bar to look for him. He wasn't there so I assumed he was in the toilet and got another round of drinks in.
I then spent a good few minutes bashing balls around on the next table, still no Pete. After about half an hour I decided that something was wrong and asked the club steward to go and see if he was in the toilet, he wasn't.
I looked outside and his car was gone.
He had just gone home without saying a word and left me stranded. I had to get a taxi home. Lovely.

Pete just said, ' i'd had enough'. We laughed about it afterwards.

The first post looked like a list of reasons why we shouldn't have had a bet on the event.

Next we'll be betting on coin tosses.  Oh wait.

Tikay saves £10 as Carter beats Hamilton in the first round.

Freerolling now. Sort of.

Selby out and the defending champ, Gould, is too.

That's a lovely story Sonour.

I knew from my many conversations over the years with him that both Pete and I played decent "club" standard snooker but it had never crossed my mind that you might be a player too.

Did you play on the ladies' circuit or were/are you  purely a hustler.

PS Can't wait to bump into Pete again now *chortle*

Millwall (34), Sheffield Wednesday (34) and Barnsley (33) are the top three in the Championship for players used this term - they are all in the table's bottom six.

Rumour is that Brentford are chasing Assombalongalonga. Gl with that, unless they have £2-3m knocking around.

Guodong plays tomorrow at around 1.30pm against Gerard Greene. Milkins plays at around 2.30pm against Shaun Murphy.

My main sport was golf Karabiner, and I know you play too. I played from age 11 and in the winter when there was snow on the ground or it was too wet or too dark in the summer, we played snooker.
My Dad was a good player, highest break 78. My highest break is 52.
Pete knocked in many centuries against me and I think he was probably a lot better 30 years ago.
Pete was much better than me but I knew how to keep the white safe and used to drive him mad !
Yes, mention that story to Pete please. I think even he has the good grace to be slightly embarrassed about his behaviour.

Just incase anyone doesn't notice like me, Paddy Power seem to be 1/5 odds first 5 gs not 1/3. Which is a massive difference

Rinswun, Lewes recently played Harrow Borough in a 1-1 draw, can you give me a low down on them please if you see this?

They face Hamlet tomorrow at Champion Hill, and Hamlet's keeper remains a liability, but I think for the team as a whole after scoring 4 goals in the second half of the last game from being 2-0 down to win 4-2 there may be a return to form. At 2-1 down Margate did get a man sent off and the 3 Hamlet scored was against 10 men, but I think in the clearing of a huge mental block of not winning for a while, they may approach the next game much more positively.

I think they will win the game, but concede a goal to Harrow because of the keeper. Current odds on to win not to nil are 31/20 with Winner bet, and after having a mull over the markets and form of both sides it is the only bet that stood out to me.

http://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/non-league/isthmian-premier/dulwich-v-harrow-borough/to-win-not-to-nil

Over 3.5 goals is also tempting at 11/10, if you don't fancy the bet above this one comes a close second for me.

http://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/non-league/isthmian-premier/dulwich-v-harrow-borough/over-under-3.5

Here is the keeper that makes these bets value btw. I feel terrible for backing against him every week because it seems like a vendetta. For those new to him he has been at fault for 5 of the 8 goals Hamlet have conceded since his introduction. 0.35 secs in for his most recent fluff, but at less than 4 mins, watching all 6 goals is decent investment of time.

Over 3.5 at 11/10 seems really short to me.  Isn't the dodgy keeper in the price?

This is why I need a wily person's opinion on the betting markets as sometimes I can think something is going to happen in a game, like the 3.5+ goals, but not realise that it is tight in the price. So you are probably right. Still learning. Thanks. Shouldn't really tip without that confidence in price knowledge and will study harder for my next tip(s). In fact I think the fact that 31/20 is quite short for a win to nil too. Argh.

Cheers Rinswun for your pm. It read like this, "Harrow were distinctly average and scored with their one shot on target. With that said, they tended to get the ball down and played it out wide regularly but their wingers couldn't deliver a decent cross. If Dulwich still have the dodgy keeper they'll almost certainly test him under the high ball. Harrow's looked well drilled at the back against Lewes but then Lewes are well off form - 6 draws and 2 losses in the last 8 I believe - and are lacking confidence all over the place. Seems like Dulwich are in a similar spot at the moment so could be worth opposing."

Harrow are 17/4 on the outright win market, but still hold the view Hamlet are going to win not to nil.
