Should have sent Big Bucks to Barney Curley.

Would be no doubts about his well being if they had.

Snooker Shootout starts today. One frame. Straight knock out. Shot clock. Loud music. Heckling. Red Pepper announcing the clock. Random draw. Players in polo shirts with their rankings on them. Right up tikay's Straße, that

Fancy a few darts at it? 18/1 the field. Real outsiders' comp this. Martin Gould, Nigel Bond and Barry Hawkins have won it.

http://www.oddschecker.com/snooker/snooker-shootout/snooker-shoot-out/winner

Ali Carter 33/1 (BetFred, Paddy, Hills) has well known health issues that make the intensity of a longer comp problematic. Maybe this is perfect for him

Basically want someone who isn't going to be drunk and can play reasonably quickly under pressure.

Open to suggestions but this seems like a bit of fun for the weekend.

Wow, looks like a job for Fred's spider.

Do you have to be street-wise to get that funny letter in Straße?

Ok. Starts in an hour or so, I think. I'll throw some out and see whether you fancy them:

Ali Carter 33/1 for reasons stated above
Xu Guodong 40/1 as a quick, talented, heavy scorer
Robert Milkins 50/1 as a quick player who has TV experience
Anthony "The Sheriff of Pottingham" Hamilton 80/1 with bags of experience and a wily tactician

Tenner apiece. Let's get rich.

Tenner each?

£5 EW then.

We did the first three, but the Market had closed before I could get on Anthony Hamilton. Shame, I used to play Anthony, at the Stadium Snooker Club in Notts, back in the day. I'd have been 30 odd years oild, he was about 12 (seriously) & he was a prodigy. Bit of a weirdo, too, in so many ways.

Running Updates please, so we know how we are getting on. I've got a poker session tonight, so can't Post much, but I will keep an eye on the thread.

Good luck, & hope everyone has a grand Friday evening.

PS - Brentford v Gillingham on the telly, too - oooohhhh.

3 BETS PLACED

You played at The Stadium Tony. Really?!?

I was a regular there for a good few years in the 1980's and even played in their "super-league" team for a year or two.

I've known Anthony Hamilton since before he managed to grow any facial hair too.

I was playing Pete at snooker at the golf club a few years ago. Before the girls were born we used to play for £100 per frame, 20 or 30 frames in a session.

I was running well on this particular day and Pete was getting more and more fed up. I potted a black to win another frame and saw Pete walking away from the table towards the bar or possibly the toilet, or so I thought.
I set the table up for the next frame and went to the bar to look for him. He wasn't there so I assumed he was in the toilet and got another round of drinks in.
I then spent a good few minutes bashing balls around on the next table, still no Pete. After about half an hour I decided that something was wrong and asked the club steward to go and see if he was in the toilet, he wasn't.
I looked outside and his car was gone.
He had just gone home without saying a word and left me stranded. I had to get a taxi home. Lovely.

Pete just said, ' i'd had enough'. We laughed about it afterwards.

Fantastic!

Can't wait until I next see Pete. Will he be playing the UKPC @ DTD? Ooohhhh......

You really are some dark horse, Lisa, more stories please.

Karabiner,

Pete and I tied a frame of snooker and respotted the black. I won the toss and put Pete in.

He cut the black in to the bottom left hand black pocket. Played for and got.

Have you ever seen that done before ?

Have you ever seen anyone crazy enough to try it ? Lol

Many years ago I used to back a young 18-year-old Irish kid who had just arrived in London from Dunleargh(sp?) who was convinced that he was a big favourite to pot a respotted black and he used to do it all the time much to my annoyance especially when he missed it.

He also used to knock in a baulk colour if he got into positional trouble around the pink and black and more often that not would get back into perfect shape.

His name was Patsy Fagan and he was an undoubted genius on the snooker table if somewhat on the crazy side.

Really, our paths MUST have crossed, Ralph.

I was playing snooker at a dive in Acton back in the day (before I moved up to the Midlands), & Jimmy White, who mostly played at a club in Wimbledon, started bringing Patsy to the Acton place. Patsy, as I recall, was listed as an amateur then. Tony Meo was a regular there, too.

I never saw Patsy or Jimmy to speak to again for the best part of 30 or 40 years, & then, spookily, I bumped into & spoke with both on the very same day, last year.

Patsy was doing some commentary work for Eurosport in the next studio to where we were recording the Sky Poker Cash Game for Sky Sports in which we'd got Jimmy White playing. Pretty sure Patsy's career was curtailed by the snooker "yips" or somesuch.

More recently, for the UKPC, we invited Jimmy along, mainly, if truth be told, to try & get Ronnie O'Sullivan to play, as he'd be monsta for us, SEO etc, so we asked him if Ronnie might fancy playing. Jimmy says, "Ronnie who?", & we say "O'Sullivan, who did you think we meant?"

He replies, "oh sorry, thought you meant Ronnie Wood, as he likes his snooker"......

It was only then that the penny dropped, Jimmy & Ronnie Wood run together a lot.

Apologies guys, I'm in super rambly mode this morning.

Back to January's depressing numbers, then......

The final Cricket ODI is tomorrow

We then have the T20 series to look forward to

Jaffa Cake's post yesterday got me thinking

The fifth game is to be played at Adelaide, on a drop in pitch. Slow, low and unlikely to be the 300+ scoring conditions of Perth (fast, bouncy)

Australia are thinking of playing two spinners, England may too

These sort of One day games can be very different. If the ball does not come onto the bat then early scoring can be tougher and typically the harder hitters that can clear the field later in the innings can do well.

Jos Buttler this series has 158 runs. He is third behind Morgan and Bell for England. Cook and Bopara amongst others have been out of form.

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/the-ashes-2013-14/engine/records/batting/most_runs_career.html?id=8142;type=series

This is despite batting 7 in the order

Behind Morgan - 10 sixes- Buttler is the other guy in the order that can take the game away from the oppposition on a slow one - eg he has 6 sixes so far this series. He also has the highest strike rate of any player on either side

Yet despite being the third biggest scorer, in form, we can get him at 9-1 for Top England scorer tomorrow with Bet 365, Ladbroke and Coral

http://www.oddschecker.com/cricket/australia-v-england/odi-series/australia-v-england-%5B5th-odi%5D/top-england-batsman

ie 8th favourite!

There are whispers on twitter that England may experiement with the order again, Stokes was moved up at Perth and Buttler is in the frame to be moved up here

This is not in the price at all

If you can get 9-1 here you have good value, with being moved up in for nothing

Not a big bet, no more than £15-20 as of course the risk here is that England's top order fire and Buttler is stuck at 7 coming in late, but 9-1 is a play I think

Oh my, that MUST be value, thanks Tighty, & to Lord Kimber for the nudge.

We got 9/1, & have had £10 with Ladbrokes (I was restricted to £11) & the other £10 with Corals.

Harry Arter the Bournemouth midfielder has been booked 6 times in 18 appearances this season

Against Liverpool today it is fair to say he should be slightly more likely to get a card (less of the ball e.t.c)

Two negatives i wanted bigger than 3-1 (vc only firm priced up) and Lee Probert bar the odd occasion is not a card happy referee

Think he should be about 2-1 but not quite convinced enough to back him at 3-s

At the risk of the obvious

Why are Crystal Palace 5/2 at Wigan today?

I don't think a Pulis side is 5/2 here are they?

Football season bets. I'm doing the following...

4 x EW doubles

Poshies 9-1, Brentford 9-1

Fleetwood 7-1, Chesterfield 15-2

Remember this rebuff from last summer? One time you Beeeeeees!

No way Poshies will let Britt go unless it's mega money, but a switch wouldn't be a bad thing for our Golden Bootery. So far we've bid for about a dozen players this window, had quite a few accepted but then been rebuffed by the player. Nobody wants to play for Fergie any more it seems Sad

For the record, one will be backing over 4.5 @ 7/1 and over 5.5 @ 14/1 at Boundary Park this afternoon.

Errrrmmmm - just remember it was written into his sale that Watford retain 'first dibs' on Bongo-Congo should he become available     ....    though the way things are going for us he might think Brentford (The club with the Pubs) are a better choice!

I think you're probably right.

I have similar feelings about Cardiff and Fulham.

Took 2/1 on Cardiff on b365 earlier today and 7/4 on Fulham.

I think Cardiff will want to play a decent team to get their signings to gel. Bolton are hardly setting the Championship alight.

And almost 2/1 on a Premiership team at League One Sheff Utd who are inconsistent?

I couldn't do Fulham. Sheff U are solid, if not prolific. Replay possiblities

I have Palace, Cardiff in the "Retire to Barbados" coupon
