They held Moyes at 19's when he was already sub 2's on the machine tbf

Very dangerous to offer the same market as everyone else under a different heading

Yeah, seems strange that they wouldn't just stick it up under the normal title.

I got 30 quid on Mel before they took it down, so with a bit of luck one of them gets the elbow.

14-Feb   Chompy   WilliamHill   Mar-2014   Horses   Cheltenham Going   Good   12/1   25

This bet is coming right pretty quickly isn't it?

As a general point, it seems to me there are less bankers this Festival than in prior years..due to recent withdrawals of course. Fair?

Is there a case for reduced stakes in the light of a) big competitive fields without those stand out bankers to fund the punts b) probability of very different ground than all the winter form?

or is it just "its cheltenham, lets go for it"?

Here were the results from test one

I think we are on the right lines with our bets, but we will know more by the weekend

I'm going to try & list our Cheltenham Portfolio (so far) later this week, so we know where we are with everything.

I'd like to ask Mere to run his usual Tipping Comp, too, but with the "No Edit" thing, it makes it awkward. I know that Stakes & Ladders will offer plenty of Chelters action, but I do think Mere has first dibs on his regular things. (Though I'm not assuming he will agree to do it, of course).

Recommendation Nathan Lyon top Australia Bowler at 6-1 Ladbrokes

On a slow pitch in Port Elizabeth winning the toss and batting was crucial, as putting a good score on the board was vital. The same is likely in Cape Town, where everything points to a slow and dry pitch on which batting last will be difficult and winning the toss and batting another big advantage.

Looking at the outrights then, obviously a few days out from the match, is tricky. Whoever wins the toss and bats is favourite but at this stage South Africa 5/4, Australia 2/1 and the Draw 5/2 reflects that it is a close series and difficult to predict

From people I know in Cape Town, the pitch is slow and dry currently. With no poespect of rain this is set to continue for the start of the match.

In the last test on a slow pitch Nathan Lyon took 5 wickets to be top Australian bowler..that as a spinner was in the first innings of the game where it most responsive to quicker bowlers and least favourable for spinners (less footholes to bowl into, less cracks, less dust)

Therefore to see Ladbrokes price up Lyon as 6/1 at top Australian bowler for Cape Town is a major surprise, and could be a price that is 50% wrong, as I think nearer 4/1, possibly 7/2 is closer to the mark.

Slow pitches neutralise Mitchell Johnson's pace threat as we saw in Port Elizabeth and he remains as short as 5/4 with some bookmakers in this market. Ryan Harris, unfortunately and Peter Siddle are not in the best form and Siddle especailly is a more of a stock bowler third seamer on slow pitches

Meanwhile, i didn't have time to do a report this morning but there were two results last night of mention

Sheff Utd, FA Cup QFists, went to Colchester and won 1-0

Having been in the bottom four for the last three months they are now 12th on 38 points

14 points off Peterborough in sixth so it remains a long shot that Sheff U hit top six (but were a good bet to hit top half as we discussed at the time) in the 15 remaining games and hit the 11/1 top six bet

--

Tranmere are now 19th, three points off the drop after they beat Coventry on Saturday. We have 3/1 on them to go down

--

Portsmouth won again against Accrington 1-0 at home to climb to 18th, ten points (only) off top six and a shot at the 11/2 promotion bet

A long way to go, but the beginnings of some form at last

--

Burton drew at Torquay. Billy Kee came on as a 55th minute sub, but did not score

There are only four possible bowlers (Watson plays, but won't bowl much.)

Would be very unlucky for Lyon to be 4th

The bet is really good if Australia bowl second, having put a score up and the pitch wears a bit

6/1 is (deep breath) the best cricket "value" bet I have seen for some time.
