In all seriousness in football performance usually is measured by league position in the vast majority of cases.  Players get pay rises after promotion.  Managers tend to get sacked after relegation.

And those morons who got their spread points a little too low aren't going to get nearly as much grief as they would if they had set it correctly on a way higher total.

Where were you expecting to finish this year?  4th? 5th?6th?

Why would we expect to finish in those positions with a poor team ?

If your club shows zero ambitions and you expect to come 14th but instead finish 10th should that make a fan pleased ?

We've over performed man, be happy about it ffs.

All about the numbers, not the heart and soul of the club getting stripped out. We somehow ran golden for three months and we should be pleased this papers over the cracks.

Hull handicap bet probably at least in severe strife, Stoke result no good for Palace positions either.  Think Hull's result means we at least split on the Palace handicap place though.

Listen, there's a long way to go and, look, there are five Classics. Good start though.

I read earlier that if the season had started on 27th December Newcastle would be bottom. That can't possibly be over performing for any club.

What ho, Fred!

A football fan has been killed at a stadium in Brazil (one of the host cities) after being hit on the head by a toilet.

Meanwhile, this is happening in the Coppa Italia

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2050211-fiorentina-vs-napoli-coppa-italia-final-live-score-highlights-report

After fights between fans and police before the start, the kick off has been delayed because the Ultras weren't happy about the condition of one of the injured fans (a police officer and a fan were shot). The Napoli captain has met with the Ultras to perdaude them the fan is alive and ok.

With the fans seemingly reassured, the match is going to go ahead.

Sometimes, the premiership looks thankfully boring.

I'll do you the other fiver, if you want it?

Thanks Marky.

Send me a PM with my indebtedness please, and I will settle you up. That should get you out of it for this weekend, and most of next week, too.....

£5 Vorda, @ 33/1, 1,000 Guineas, via Marky.

ON

Better get a ruling on this.  Just checked the spreadsheet and thought I am sure I have a fiver on for Tikay on Vorda. If you go back on this thread, you can see that in addition to Marky's bet, there is a fiver through me and 30p direct.

They are all declared on thread, but not on the spreadsheet.

Horse is about 16/1 on Betfair for tomorrow.

I don't think there can be much wrong with firing a tenner on Vorda in the 1000 Guineas if we can get on with bet365.  She looks very good and has form with Rizeena and the very good colt No Nay Never.   The 33/1 could go today if Rizeena goes well.  If it doesn't go then, there is sure to be a change one way or another after she runs in the Chevely Park Stakes tomorrow.

Good luck with getting it on with bet365 though.

Go on then, I'm in a gambly mood today, so I went for the Max Button with Bet365.

We have £0.30 @ 33/1, Bet365, Vorda, 1,000 Guineas.

Daily Report

Loss on month £611.40

Outstanding Bets £2759.82 (£1000 of bets settled yesterday!)

Free Bets £10 William Hill, £25 Betfred

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aia1Hxq-NDNWdFk3UmlTSXMzTjRBTVNfOWRndVFsZHc&usp=drive_web#gid=24

A loss of £576 on Saturday, on a terrible day that was always going to be very swingy, promised much and delivered little except a headache for yours truly as i sorted it all out

The winners

- Tranmere were relegated on a see-saw afternoon that saw them up (took the lead against bradford), down (bradford equalised), up (oldham took the lead against notts county) then down again (notts county equalised and then bradford took a lead they were not to relinquish) for £150 profit. Well done to eso kral who banished a few thread demons with this one.

At no point in proceedings did I dare post on the thread one way or the other, such was the vital nature of this game considering everything else that was happening across the portfolio...

- Winnall was L2 Top scorer +£100. a corking cover bet in its timing, chompy got there ahead of the market

- Hogan finished in the top 3 for a £1.88 e/w return. considering he was out with a knee since february, just shows what an excellent bet the initial one was.

- Baldock won L1 golden boot +£43.22 after commission. another nice chompy cover

- Ulloa Brighton top scorer +£50 including the goal that took them into the play offs today. Bet was sown up months ago. wish we had had more on.

At 90 mins today Doncaster were 11/2 to be relegated and Brighton were 10/1 to make top six. the Reading fans invaded the pitch to celebrate getting into the play-offs then brighton scored, birmingham came back from 2-0 down and it all changed just like that.

Losers

Deep breath.

- Watford top half -£350. 4-1 home defeat to Huddersfield. Gutless tossers.Mddlesborough won 4-1 at Yeovil anyway so it didn't matter, but still.

- Robertson lost in snooker's very own rumble in the jungle in a titanic battle with Selby. Simply sensational granite snooker from both. Disappointing to come so close to an each way return at least, but no complaints, another near miss -£40

- Hull City loss meant they could not finish top promoted side -£50. wouldn't have predicted that two months ago before Palace really hit their straps....

- Ings scored but finished one goal off an each way return -£40. spent a crucial six weeks injured in march-april that cost this bet an almost certain return of some sort

- Nugent scored but finished two goals off an each way return -£20. 20 goals for the season, first lcfc striker since Lineker to do it. missed three penalties this season though, that made the difference

- The injured Vokes finished 3 goals off an each way return - £20. again, what might have been....

- Rhodes scored today but finished 2nd to McCormack -£14. mccormack's scoring rate never slowed enough to put rhodes, a saver bet, seriously in the hunt outright...

- Britt second to Baldock, not selected today. Key penalty missed last week cost us the money at 40-1 from what was a terrific bet - £12.50

- Mooney scored today but finished a goal off an each way return -£50. mooney went quiet from february onwards and after then never regained his early season form

- Kee L2 top goalscorer -£10. Spent the season shagging a MILF and was dropped from the burton side. doubt he cared that much

- Arsenal cannot win the premier league, bet placed at 8-1 as part of the liverpool lay trade,  -£100

- Gillingham and Brentford matches each produced two goals not o3.5 each -£50

- Toormore unplaced in the 2000g -£150 Night of Thunder was the biggest-priced winner of the 2,000 Guineas since the 50-1 success of MON FILS (trainer, R Hannon snr) in 1973. Toormore led, but was collared a way out

With quite a few of the ante-post goal-scorer bets we ran well for a long way but key injuries and penalty misses cost us returns. fine lines over a nine month season

Long term

Manchester City could help us avoid the liverpool lay loss. top on goal difference with two home games to come. Top spot in the league has changed 23 times this year! 23!!

RUN-INS Man City - Villa (H), West Ham (H) Liverpool - Palace (A), Newcastle (H) Chelsea - Norwich (H), Cardiff (A)

 1 Man City - P 36, Gd 59, Pts 80 2 Liverpool - P 36, Gd 50, Pts 80 3 Chelsea - P 36, Gd 43, Pts 78

Arsenal will finish outside the top three if Chelsea gain another point, at home to Norwich tomorrow for starters, so thats another loss coming

Palace need to beat liverpool to stand any chance of top ten as the prospect of a top half finish faded with the newcastle and stoke wins today

the hull handicap bet looks forlorn

the palace handicap bet still looks good each way

paulinho needs to score in Spurs last game for a winning bet. Pigs might fly, if we dream enough.

at the other end of the table, after a season of trying Vincent Tan finally succeeeded in turning Cardiff red

aiden o'brien 1 classic down, 4 to go....we need him to win none

In Baseball that man Tanaka did it again for the Yankees, pitching them to a 9-3 win and with the Orioles losing they regain the lead of the AL East again

and if you made the end of that, well done

Winners please!

Have I upset you Ralph, you seem to be making things very personal?!

When you give out stick it's "just banter" but when you are on the end of it you say it's "very personal" so maybe it might be better not to give any if you're going to get all sensitive.

FYI It was merely a little coincidental reference to today's argy-bargy with the scoop6 folk although I did have a fiver on MrMarmite @12/1 just in case you think I don't bet my own selections. He led until the run-in too.

You'll no doubt be happy to hear that he faded on the run-in so I won't be putting him up in the next round.
