"where's the cue ball going?"

Just lol.

How many times does he say EXACTLY that, every bloody year.

As you note, it's going towards the pocket John......

The merchandise stands at the events are selling T shirts with ' Where's the cue ball going' so there is probably an element of selling behind him still using this phrase. I find it pretty irritating too.

I think it was York last year that I saw two people sitting next to each other, the first wearing a t shirt saying 'I don't care' and the second one wearing a t shirt saying 'where the white ball is going'

Was talking over the weekend about the standard of the BBC comms this year and I saw it the same way as you mate, was really poor this year. My take is that some of these guys are so far past their own playing careers that they comentate on how they used to play the game/would play the game than the way the game is now played. I even watched some of the Eurosport coverage this year. Think Virgo and Thorne will be next in line to go, I was disappointed they let Everton go before these guys tbh.

My fav is Neal Foulds, he just talks about the pro's and cons of each shot and isn't trying to make himself into a character. The worst bit for me from the Beeb was when the score got to 11-10 and Irvine said.

'That's now 6 frames on the trot that Ronnie has lost, why is that guys?' they then did some enormous aftertiming and backfitting as to why Ronnie had lost some of those frames not 'wow that is now 6 frames Selby has won on the trot and 8 of the last ten, what a fantastic comeback, how has he turned that 8-3 and 10-5 deficit into an 11-10 lead guys?

They were commentating from a point of selling Ronnie instead of just commentating on what was happening in the match.

Not sure I subscribe to all this hysteria about palps closing accounts and dirty ew horses closing accounts.

Never happened to me once.

Interesting choice of words.  Can't ever imagine getting hysterical about anything.  Can confirm I have had 2 restriced straight after dirty each way type bets and another restricted soon after a palp.  Guess it depends a bit on all your other betting and if you are a winner elsewhere.  I think several declared they got an email after one particular dirty each way bet here.

I'd just leave the Coral bet and try and reverse the lay at the same price.  Seems the calmest option, and saves you from the possibility that them declaring it a palp costs you £500 or whatever it was.

Can also say that I am fairly sure I have got stuff past Choral before that looked like it could be a palp.

ok, but thats not our problem. we're on strong ground if we have to take it further, in the unlikely event it wins

Nailed it, Phil, & the Hazel question was typical, it sort of reminded me of Thommo's inane stuff.

Not 100% certain, but I think Clive Everton had a bit of a falling out with the BBC, maybe over snooker politics or somesuch. Best snooker commentator I ever heard.

How was the Annual "World Snooker" party last night? Who goes to those things, just a bunch of mates, or is it the Bookies reps & marketmakers etc?

Before we leave the World Snooker, though, I must say all that "Jester from Leicester" nonsense was rather grating, I thought. Do fans really call him that?

The visual coverage of the Snooker was wonderful, as always, but I think the Presenters & Commentators could use a bit of a freshen-up. Bring back Clive Everton, I say.

Which of the presenters and commentators did you like? And not like?

Ticking time-bomb, that question!

We must differentiate between "like/dislike", which is purely subjective, & how GOOD they are, which is a different thing.

I can't find much enthusiasm for the angry looking shouty man, Rob Walker. His claim to fame, according to Wiki, is inventing nicknames for snooker players. "The Thunder from Down Under" et al. Very good, if you like that sort of thing. TV Producers, a strange & detached breed at the best of times, evidently do.

Hazel Irvine seems like a perfectly lovely person, & she does have a golf pedigree from her Uni days, but she cuts no ice with me on Snooker programming. Very good on Grandstand, back in the day, though, but just not a snooker type, imo. I don't enjoy her Golf Presenting either, but I'm sure thats just me. She supports Dumbarton for her sins, incidentally, & is President of their Supporters Club, which, one assumes, is an onerous resposibnility with so many Members. apropos nothing really, but did you know Hazel is just shy of 50 years of age, & became a Mum for the first time just 4 years back? She certainly looks wonderful for 50.

Dennis Taylor, another really lovely chap, but all a bit cliche, & no cutting edge to his stuff.

I suppose my biggest reservation, as I think he is just not up to the task any more, is John Virgo, ditto Willie Thorne.

I do think that John Parrott & Terry Griffiths are both excellent, can't fault either.

I just think it's all a bit samey, & could use a bit of freshening up.

Just personal opinions really, but I can't say I "dislike" any of them as people, not at all.

MC Alan Hughes must be turning on his settee. The guy that brought us 'The wizard from Wishaw' and the 'Sheriff of Pottingham' losing credit for some snooker nicknames to Mr Shouty man.

I generally just mute the commentary, and only normally listen to the studio when Davis and Hendry are in there.

Would have been far more fun if after that intro he'd launched into "You take my life but I'll take yours too..!"

Ok, the Trooper from Leicester wouldn't work either. Selby the Great?

It doesn't close them if you give them plenty of 'feel' business as well Grin

Hi mate,

I didn't go last night, think I might have mislead you a bit. I was in Sheffield to meet up with some snooker mates that I might see only when they come to Sheffield these days and family and watched it with them but didn't go the after comp this year. Been ill this week and just didn't have the energy really.

It's really just a an end of comp blow out for the people that worked the event and anyone that can get in and any of the players still around, quite informal really. My best memories were getting a table with Joe Johnson and his wife one year, what a great entartaining guy he is. Buying Higgins a kebab next door after the bar had closed one year he won coz it was my round and I had to buy summat, got him in trouble that night coz I was trying to talk him into proposing to his now Mrs coz he had just won the Worlds. Shame how he ended up later in his career.

Some proper characters in and around the game too that always turn up for the free piss up, Jimmy White used to have a driver called 'Salad Dodger' who would end up using Jimmy's car to taxi people home at the end of the night, think he used to charge em too just to have a ride in a car with Jimmy White down the side of it. He used to go in the curry houses and eat for free coz he would promise to bring Jimmy the next night if they did him a freebie etc. Funniest thing I remember was watching two of the big punters, one of them that has now owned a Gold Cup winner playing nearest the wall with 50p pieces but playing for £50 a throw. One was sober the other was hammered, the hammered guy won over a grand much to the delight of the people watching. When they settled up he turned to the lads watching them play, held the dough in the air like two pom pom's  and shouted 'oioioi, cmon lads the fucks are on me tonight'

A bit like an adult version of the Milky bar kid really.
