England team to play Costa Rica just announced: Foster, Jones, Cahill, Smalling,. Shaw; Milner, Lampard, Wilshere; Barkley, Lallana, Sturridge.
anyone like costa rica at 7/2 or 2/1 dnb?
http://www.oddschecker.com/football/world-cup/costa-rica-v-england/draw-no-bet
point wins them the group
Absolutely all over it. Can't understand how that price is even remotely correct.

England 10th in the World, Costa Rica 28th. Costa Rica have outperformed their ranking in a couple of games. I am not even convinced that England played much below their ranking but just got unlucky in a couple of spots. I assume they can play a bit freer with the pressure off (though I know the stats won't back me up, and good teams play better than bad teams in the long run, pressure or no pressure).
I don't know, but Betfair SB dangling the carrot of the free bet if they lose makes backing England or the draw the better bet. Think we can ignore ROIs from small sample sizes and just do the best bet. Nothing to stop a hedge bet on Costa Rica if very risk averse or if you put a lot of weight on the short term.

but is this not likely the last game lampard will play in an england shirt?
Why wouldn't it be? He's older than Gerrard, lower down the pecking order, and doesn't even play for his club. He hasn't even got a club anymore. Surely he must be 100% to be one of the retirees after this WC.
thats what i was thinking with the game not meaning anything is there a reason they are playing lampard in the game ? surely giving a youngster another game would be better in the long run

Have you got a free bet with Betfair Sportsbook to use?
They have 7/1 Peralta for Mexico.

They had the better of the game against Uruguay but weren't clinical enough at the front or the back. Uruguay have Suarez. 2-1. It's not like England played horrifically and got destroyed twice.
Thought Linekar's take on Gerrard was very interesting: essentially how he's not built as a captain to spot danger, perhaps partly due to his own lack of discipline. With no one behind him able to do that, either, what happened in both games was always likely.
I think now's a good time for him to move on, personally. Phil Thompson was asked that question today on sky. Two Tal Points to the person who can tell me whether professional television pundit Phil Thompson thought Steven Gerrard should lose the captaincy of England because of the team's failure.
As if to make the show any more ridiculous, they then put up a poll of who should play against Costa Rica. Somehow, Ox made it into the side, despite having only one working leg. Might as well have put Bobby Moore and Tony Adams at the back and John Barnes on the left.

10th best team in the World lose a one off game to 9th best side and then to 7th best side by one goal each time. Meltdown everywhere. Hurt at the time, but I don't think I am wrong here. Two evenly matched teams face off, all 3 results are going to be close to evenly likely. You think the bookies were wrong pre tournament and it shouldn't have been around 2/1 all 3? England should have been evens to win the group, or maybe they really should be 4 in the World?
FWIW I laid England in game 1 when the odds hot a bit stupid, not sure they are far out here.

Variance. Absolutely ludicrous to act like England are absolutely terrible when they fail to qualify in a reasonably tough group they weren't favourites to get out of. I don't think many England fans understand this.
Also a layer of England for game one and two. Maffs innit.

Brazil are currently 1.04 or 1/25, crazy price. For £4 you can win £95 on the draw.
Edit
Cameroon just equalised.

I never expected England to go through, but I expected them to play better than they did. Their games against Italy and Uruguay were close, and they did not get destroyed by any means. However, I would argue that Italy and Uruguay (excluding Suarez) were quite poor also to be honest .. might go some way to explaining why Costa Rica are top of the group :/
Although that's not to take anything away from the Costa Ricans :-)
