My point is that there is a huge following of the Eurovision in the gay community and they are fully aware of the situation in Russia. The gay vote has a significant say on who wins the contest.

This is all whilst Russia continue to have a poor opinion by other European countries too.

Sigh, Finland fail to qualify from the semis in the ESC.
how do Russia not get v close to winning it? Very strong song, good performers.  Stole the show tonight

They'll never win it anytime soon, they have very little chance of getting the gay vote, which is a huge proportion of the watching audience

Russia has participated every year since 2000.

Russia won the 2008 contest with Dima Bilan performing the song "Believe".

Russia has also finished second in the contest three times, with Alsou in 2000, Dima Bilan in 2006 and Buranovskiye Babushki in 2012.

As of 2014, Russia, along with Sweden, holds the record for the most top five finishes in the 21st Century, with a total of seven.

Politics, particularly former USSR countries voting for their important bigger brother, is far more important than Western Europe worried about gay rights (unfortunately)

Your points are pointless and don't refer to mine.

There record is irrelevant, I said it will be a long time until they win again. The whole anti-gay Russia is only recent & will have a huge effect around Europe.

my points refer to your point because russia has a strong track record in the event precisely because the the political landscape is as important, and probably more so, than anti-russian gay votes.

each country voting has equal votes to the rest. the competition is made up of as many countries where voting for russia is a political necessity than protesting about gay rights

i know eurovision has a big gay following in western europe, but that is not going to influence the voting panel in azerbaijan, estonia, hungary and the rest.

if a russian song is good enough, it will win. i said last night that this was a strong entry

Morning Mr T.

I think there is a bet to be had in the Test series v NZ starting tomorrow. For top England bat I don't think there is much between Root and Ballance. Root is more fluent and easier on the eye, but Ballance is very nuggety and harder to prise out. Root is favourite in this market but I think that is wrong considering there are only 2 tests, and the weather is far from settled. Ballance may get an extra innings and 4 innings over 3 is a far bigger advantage than 10 over 9.  The tests are at Headingly, the home pitch for both, and Lords where last season Ballance scored a century against India. Personally I would have Ballance and Cook as slight favourites over Root, with Bell some way behind them, and Lyth as an unknown factor.

Suggest £20 Ballance @ 4-1 with Betfred, Victor, Ladbrokes, Hills.

your bets (1)

Single - England v New Zealand - 1st Test - Top England 1st Innings Runscorer

G S Ballance - |Top England runscorer|

Odds: 4/1

1 lines at £20.00 per line

Total Stake for this bet: £20.00

Potential Return:£100.00

Time : 20/5/2015-10:49

Alright, as is tradition at the Monaco GP, practice one & two fall on the Thursday and so I'm suggesting my initial bets early Smiley

Race Winner: Lewis Hamilton @ EVS with Hills. Given the way this season has gone so far, I'm surprised to see Hamilton available at evens. Suggest £20.

Points Finish: Pastor Maldonado @ EVS with a lot of bookies. If everyone was in the same car, on this track, Pastor would definitely be in the top five - he's phenomenally quick around Monaco. Suggest £50 on this one if you have the money to spare because this price is just completely wrong.

Points Finish: Jenson Button @ 17/11 with Blose. McLaren are bringing an aggressive upgrade package to this track, on a circuit as crazy as Monaco, I would say 17/11 is too high. Suggest £10.

Podium Finish: Valtteri Bottas @ 6/1 ish with the exchange. Quite simply too high. Suggest £10 at above 5/1.

As always, I will keep you up-to-date as the weekend progresses.

good grief Peter, nice contrarian stuff

Crashtor Maldonado to get round Monaco in one piece? :-) we have to go back to GP2 for good old Crashtor doing well at Monaco since when at monaco he has 18th, retired, retired, retired in F1

and so far this year he has 4 retirements and a 15th.

right i'll shut up place it and hope it wins

"If Williams are going to get a podium this season, why not Monaco?" because they'll not qualify in front of the ferrari's, start 5th-6th and have to hope for a jumbled race to get past them on strategy?

What was the exact amount you were restricted to tighty just out of interest?  I have had blose account restricted a while ago but not to those kind of levels.

£7.28 by any chance?  More interested in the exact number to see if you are factored inline with me.  Trying to work out how their system works.  Doesn't seem very obvious when you get cut.

Any reason other than sheer weight of mug money and fan base why Rangers are favs to qualify in this spot?  Looks a good spot to back Hibs at evens imo.

On this Maldanado bet, if we follow Peter's logic, should we be taking the top 6 finish?

He does seem fast round the circuit, so if he finishes in the points, he has a better chance of top 6 then expected.  To me it seems that one of Grosjean 5/2 and Maldanado 5/1 must be wrong anyway.  Just thinking out loud and obviously not a Maldanado fan.

FWIW Still some 1.95 on Betfair on the points finish for those who missed the evens.

Whilst here, many bookmakers are going 6 places on the BMW PGA.  With a 11/4 favourite, there has to be a bit more value than usual in the offer.  I have backed Willett and Dubuisson, but can just open this up for discussion.  Thread has issues with getting on with most of these 6 pace books, and there is quite a bit of cutting to compensate for 6 places around, so this isn't a case of you can't go wrong by having a bet.

Rangers got a new manager, Stuart McCall at the backend of the season, and 3 points over a season doesn't suggest Hibs were much better before?  Calling kmac, as I am no expert here.
