This is a guy who has only played pro darts for a year having retired as a rugby player.  He looks more like the walk on security guys than a typical darts player bodywise.  Handed Lewis a pounding on the blackpool stage last night and showed some incredible scoring power on the big stage.  He is open to any amount of improvement as he is totally unexposed, is currently ranked 46 in the world rankings after only a year on tour (he will be in the top 40 minimum after this week with £17.500 minimum banked at blackpool) and because he has only been on the tour since 2014 he has no prize money to defend from previous years in the 2 year rolling money list so he could easily be ranked in the top 32 in the world in December and gain auto qualification for the worlds.  There was just something about his body language on stage last night that said he believes.  Being a pro sportsman in another field clearly has given him confidence to believe on the big stage against the big names.

There seems to be little chance he will be 250/1 for the worlds in December.  Definitely worth a fiver at 250/1 with hills to add to our chisnall bet in the portfolio.  Very surprised no one has cut his price for the worlds after last night's performance.

Price must be a shoe in for a Premier League Darts wildcard spot if he gets anywhere being high enough ranked to justify being included. He ticks a lot of boxes in terms of nationality, looks, build and backstory.

Yes although not sure his criminal record will be of assistance but i agree on the other factors.  They must be desperate to get a welsh guy in there.  He said in his post match interview last night how he messed up his rugby career and he wasn't in a rush to lose his 2nd chance playing darts for a living.  He just came across as highly focused and motivated to me last night with any amount of upside given everything he wins til the worlds will add to his money list value when others above him will stand still or lose pounds as their figures from 2 years come off.  He has nothing to replace as he wasn't there.

Arboy, Price did play well didnt he, (although i think Lewis, like Barney has 'gone' a bit recently) . Wants to stop the excessive celebrations tho, imo, the adrenalin rush from those outbursts seemed to knock him back at the start of next legs, but he soon got composure back and threw some good darts.

Lewis did average over 99 last night though with 40% checkouts so Lewis hardly threw in a stinker.  He can play much worse than that and win.

It will take him a few years to get off the roids properly from the rugby and turn into a more relaxed 'rounded' athlete such as Lewis!

Going to the Winter Gardens on Thursday - first time I'll have been to the darts for about 30 years.

Looking forward to Gerwyn v Van Gerwen. Hoping for some big hcap starts for the Welshman. Oooops thought it was MVG v Price. He plays Wright I see.

He really impressed me last night. It takes most players a bit of time to adapt to playing on stage as it's very different from what they are used to week in week out but he has taken to it really well and the occasion seemed to inspire him. He also showed bottle at times to take out finishes when it mattered. His doubling was better than it looks on paper as a few times he had 3 darts at a double and took it out with the 3rd which in reality is the same as hitting it first attempt.

He seemed to have the needle with Lewis for some reason.

After the game looked like Ady wanted to congratulate him and say a few words, Price just gave him a cursory handshake and turned his back on him.

You going VIP with victor?  When betfair sponsored it the hospitality was really good.  The walk on girls sat in the box with us on the balcony all night between games!

It is near the end of the T20 Group stages, with the quarter finals in mid August

tonight Warwickshire play Northants at Edgbaston live on Sky

Warwickshire are one of the top T20 teams in the country, won it last year, top of the table this

Northants won it two years ago, which Tft will remember, struggled last year and lost their first three games this year. Since then though they have won 7 of 8

Two wins in their final group games would give them a home quarter, one win an away quarter

Warwickshire have all bases covered from hitters to nurdlers with the bat and their bowling line up is surperb. They tend to produce dry slow surfaces for home T20s, and they are rarely high scoring. Their star performer is the spinner Jeetan Patel but the whole bowling line up is adept at taking the pace off on the slow tracks. Clarke, Hannon-Dalby and Gordon, for example, are amongst the best T20 bowlers around.

Northants are a bit more of a boom and bust side. the top of their order in particular is as follows

David Willey
Richard Levi
Josh Cobb

Willey pinch hits, looking for a fast start in the powerplay. Cobb is similar. Levi is technically suspect but thrashes it a long way on the legside if he gets in

The issue here is that Warwickshire will exploit lack of technique and i think early wickets are a strong possibility

That opens up this market

http://www.oddschecker.com/cricket/natwest-t20-blast/warwickshire-v-northamptonshire/top-northamptonshire-batsman

where it is 11/2 bar the three hitters at the top

Alex Wakely the captain is a steady batsman, can repair innings and bat through

Ben Duckett is 20. Tiny left handed batsman.

Give it 5 years and he will be England's wicketkeeper. He was the England U19 wicketkeeper in the last U19 world cup, scored 60 to help beat India then a 100 to beat Australia in the 3rd place playoff. Bit of a lad (suspended last offseason for poor conditioning/failing a fitness test) but a real talent

In his last three championship games, where he bats 2 or 3 now, he has two hundreds and three fifties

Batting at 5 in the T20 his last three scores are 30, 24* and 40*

In 23 career T20 innings he has 364 runs from 290 balls faced at a strike rate of over 120.

A couple of early wickets and he could have a lot of overs to make a score here. The thing i really like about him is that he is adaptable, and not all T20 batsmen are. He can hit it with the best of them and nudge it around at other times

I don't think you'll get him at 7-1 (Coral, Ladbrokes) for too many more T20 games as his name becomes known. Northants don't appear on TV much, which has helped him stay a little under the radar in markets

The long term plan would be for him to open or bat three in this format too

So

Warwickshire at home in the T20 this season

first up scores have been

144
160
149
132
242
137

thats 5 out of 6 lowish scores

Warwickshire have an advantage in spin, pace off and bowling experience. I'd expect a slow if not used pitch tonight making it difficult for the Northants big hitters and scores of 30-50 to be in contention to win the top batsmans markets. Obviously on fresh pitches/smaller grounds etc you are needing well over 60-70 to be in contention

Northants in t20 this season

Levi 367 runs in 12 innings, strike rate 147
Cobb 330 in 12, strike 145
Duckett 189 in 9, strike 140
Wakely 172 in 11, strike 102

you can see how important it is for any bet on someone batting 4 or 5 for the top three to fail

Bets should be small here. If one of the top three gets in that is likely to be that for any hopes of later batsmen in this sub-market but for the reasons outlined i think early wickets are more likely. We would then have a shot.

recommendation £10 win Ben Duckett Top Northants batsman v Warwickshire tonight (6.30pm sky sports 2) at 7/1 Coral or Ladbrokes (17/2 PaddyPower)

Fascinating.

Unless any cricket sorts demur, go ahead please.

Can you tell us more about that failed fitness test? Sounds a bit of a story there.

Did this bet get made Tighty? If not Fred can have £10 of mine at Paddy Power's 17/2 - let me know before Northants bat as they won the toss but elected to field.

It's a bet I've had my eye on as I fancy his chances in the fight. ITV picking up the tv rights would be a boost, in all likelihood Hearn will scoop it up and bodge together another PPV card.

Fury's persona is a bit marmite to say the least, but given time he comes across as a loveable big galoot.

None of them are terribly endearing, but first white British Champ since forever, would be a coup, and I refer to my usual statement, if Giggs can win it with no personality and no great achievement etc.
