Anyone explain this race to me.

Obviously hoping to hold at 8 and not go to 7.

http://www.oddschecker.com/horse-racing/pontefract/14:40/winner

Ive had a nudge on Still On Top, Ladbrooks go 7/4 and betfair 16/1. Anybody any thoughts or help as to why

Laddies are 7-1.

Absolutely, Chesterfield were put up as a sell at 61 in yesterday's RP. Danger of all eggs in one basket here but that's the bet.

Laddies restrict us on the Bury match bet?

Seeing as we are on Chesterfield to get relegated would their spread be one to get on?

Only problem with that is it has already dropped 1.5 points due to sellers, so may have missed the value.  Perhaps Chompy can let us know what he thinks about the revised level as it stands now.  For anyone who can't access site they are trading at 59.5-61.5 (they registered 69 last season in securing the last playoff place).

For discussion purposes, Yeovil were detached on 40 points, the other relegated teams got 50,  and the 4 teams at the top registered 99, 91, 89 and 79.  Eight teams between 57 and 63 in the middle, which is where they are pitching Chesterfield.

The jump up to premier league is always hard the first few matches.  Villa and Palace are both bigger prices than I thought to win at Bournemouth and Norwich respectively?  I thought those matches would be coin flips.

I know the premier league odds are hard to beat, but any thoughts on these prices?

Also Newcastle dogs at home to Saints caught my eye.

The price that caught my eye was Watford, 9/2, away to Everton.

Having said that, not sure we should be betting much at this stage, though I suppose if we were good enough, this'd be the time to spot value.

I do know that because of our positions, I'm hoping Sunderland lose, & Watford perform respectably.

If Watford win at Everton we'll do handsomely on our spread bet Tikay so I wouldn't double up.  Not that ancient stats are much use, but Watford have a diabolical record at Goodison Park.  Everton have won 9 out of 9 top flight encounters!  And won 7 out of 10 at Vicarage round.  Gulp!

Aren't the early season clichés the same as the late season ones?

For all I like Bournemouth for obvious reasons I doubt villa are to displeased with there first game.

"Newcastle to finish eighth in 15/16 Premier League" at 25/1 catches my eye. Mathematically, there is a 1 in 20 chance, so isn't 25/1 too high? That's before we take out unrealistic positions such as 1st & 2nd too.

To simplfied to say there is a 1 in 20 chance.

34/1 to finish in top 6

3/1 top 10.

So 25% chance they finish in top 10

2.85% chance they finish in top 6

call it 22% chance they finish 7,8,9,10

5.5% chance of each one of them

gives 18/1?

Is this a fair calculation for maths guys. This would say 25/1 seems a good bet to me.

Bear in mind I may have got these figures completely wrong above.

DOOOBS!

In League One - Chomps territory - Blackpool are 2/1 to be relegated.

They must be almost that to get though the season, surely?

Not sure about the Blackpool situation tbh, horsey would know more.

I remember the Oystons more as horse owners back in the 80s. O I Oyston was a bit of a hero for Jack Berry.

Can you try for more on the Bury match bet over the phone? They'll normally take it even if restricto-ing online

First thought was they are doomed.

However there are three or four sides as the betting indicates that are certain to be down there. The signing of emmerson Boyce seems a rare sensible one.

Then yesterday they appointed a captain with 8 senior appearances surprised it wasn't Boyce though they don't have much choice.

All in all expect them to be in the lower reaches but not as sure as I was they will be tailed off

we've lost the last 5 in a row, and I wouldn't be hopeful of that record changing anytime soon. They've got the wood on us at the moment for sure

From recall, plenty of newly promoted teams do very well first few games as they are a bitof an unknown quantity for the established prem boys. Certainly wouldn't want to be placing any bets just on the assumption that newly promoted teams do not do well at first.

Personally don't like betting outcomes on matches until about 6 games into the season.
