Anyone who plays the spreads - I do think we should be selling test nations v Bangladesh and Afghanistan at 40ish.  The gap simply isn't that big in this format - I won nicely on both teams today despite them both losing (no idea how Bangladesh did mind!).  Unfortunately only 2 more opportunities to do this in the current tournament before the associates get put on the back burner for 2 years.

When you are running well lads, you run well!

Haha, theory was he could open and bowl his full compliment of overs. In the end he binks it in batting 7 and only bowling 2 overs, unreal

I may have mis-spoken...

We needed a perfect storm of results to stand a chance of winning this chess bet. (Pics courtesy of World Chess)

Caruana was cruising against Topalov but then made a few inaccurate moves and the Bulgarian equalised the position and forced a draw.

Ok, that's nice, but not massively helpful.

Aronian (level with Anand) was playing Peter Svidler and he managed to get what looked to be a commanding position. He then played inaccurately and suddenly ended up losing.

Better, but Anand was playing Karjakin.

Well, Anand has played a few games this tournament where he has tried to play like Carlsen. This is completely at odds with his normal style of play. It'd be like Tony Pulis telling a team to play like Barcelona. Anand is aggressive and tactical, not quiet and slow. But he has found some joy with it...

...including today. Karjakin is known for his defensive ability. He wriggles and wriggles and wriggles. You can't pin him down. But Anand did today.

With Nakamura and Giri drawing (Giri? Drawing? Who would have thunk that?), the crosstable looks substantially healthier than it did this morning:

Anand is black against Nakamura tomorrow before the final rest day. He has a poor record against the American, but Nakamura is not in good form.

He will need to finish above Caruana to win the tournament, as a tie will go in Caruana's favour because of their head to head.

In that crosstable, the number to the right of the score (Perf.) is a reference to how well each player is doing on rating. The +/- number reflects how much their rating would go up or down, based on this comp. Anything at this level 5 or above is very good. Over 10 is a stellar performance.

Well there's a nice surprise, thanks Tal Bloke.

Do they all wear lounge suits (but no tie, I note) in these Major events? Something rather pleasing about that. Shell suits, trackie bottoms, plimsolls  & baseball caps are a no-no, presumably?

Yes. I'm not sure whether it's sponsor-driven these days or just following tradition. Some wear ties. Personal choice and comfort I expect.

Funny you should say that

Like volunteer point at each way

Positives

Great draw in 3, stalls 1 2 3 still show the way around lingers over trips upto this one (timeform estimate a 5lb swing )

All the pace is low stays further so should be in position to attack first 2 out. The botti horse having blinkers added in 1 only adds to the pace likely to be low and plenty of it.

In good recent form

The fav is a rightful one but she could be asked to do much early from stall 10 especially if she starts slowly as last time.

Like this for 40 each way if someone can for Fred

Even though a bad each way race being a listed event should make it easier to get on.

That wasn't the question old chap!!

Can't understand why Blue Surf is so big compared to Anglophile and Ballynaty in the Marathon tomorrow. Watch the last trial they were all in. Cant just be down to the draw surely?
