Event 23: $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em - Six-Handed

Day 2 completed

Aaaand just like that – another action-packed day of six-handed No Limit Hold’em is in the books. Out of the original 141 who began Day 2 in hopes of landing a World Series of Poker gold bracelet – only 18 will return for a third and final Day 3. Artem Metalidi will come into tomorrow as chip leader with a monstrous 1,523,000 stack. Behind him is the only other player to break a milly during Day 2, Luis Rodriguez, who bagged up 1,005,000.

As is always true in poker, where there are winners, there must be losers. Among those who didn’t survive into Day 3 include Jason Mercier, David Benyamine, Dan O’Brien, Galen Hall, Liv Boeree, Will Failla, Brad Booth and Gavin Smith. William Reynolds also fell by the wayside, but in notably brutal fashion as he was outdone by one of No Limit Hold’em’s prominent cooler situations.

As noted, our remaining players will be chasing after Artem Metalidi, who found himself with a massive chip late into Day 2 after winning a couple of key pots. There is still plenty of notable talent still in contention, however, including bracelet winner and 2008 November Niner Scott Montgomery, World Poker Tour champion and bracelet-winner Eugene Katchalov, online tournament phenom Andrew Lichtenberger and Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier – whose live tournament earnings exceed $8,400,000.

Here are the final chip counts going into tomorrow:
Player   Chip Count
Artem Metalidi   1,523,000
Luis Rodriguez Cruz   1,005,000
Foster Hays   679,000
Joseph Urgo   572,000
Damien Lhommeau   511,000
Bertrand Grospellier   487,000
Freddy Deeb   425,000
Taylor Paur   424,000
Simon Charette   405,000
Eddie Blumenthal   395,000
Craig Bergeron   375,000
Scott Montgomery   288,000
Thiago Nishijima   272,000
Andrew Lichtenberger   246,000
Alexander Nudin   245,000
Toan Trinh   224,000
Ryan Fair   199,000
Eugene Katchalov   84,000

Event 25: $1,500 Limit Hold'em Shootout

Day 1 completed

After a rather short day of poker, fifty players were able to conquer their tables and move on to Day 2 of Event 25: $1,500 Limit Hold'em Shootout. Each player to move on to play tomorrow is guaranteed to win at least $3,088. If the players can best their table tomorrow, they will make the final table of ten and be guaranteed even more money.

Today's play saw a slew of notable players enter only to hit the rail a few levels later. Among those to try their best but come up short today were Daniel Negreanu, Jennifer Harman, Antonio Esfandiari, Phil Hellmuth, Brandon Cantu, Marcel Luske, and Joseph Cheong.

While those players busted from their tables while there were still a few players left, several notable players made it to heads up only to end their tournament life one spot from the money. Barry Greenstein, Bryan Devonshire, McLean Karr, Maria Ho and Viktor Blom are some of the players who were able to make it to heads up but were unable to seal the deal.

While only fifty players progressed through Day 1, many notable names still survived. Those coming back for round two tomorrow include Victor Ramdin, Mike Leah, Justin Bonomo, JJ Liu, Ari Engel, Brock Parker, and many more.

Also to return tomorrow is Matt Matros. Matros recently won his third World Series of Poker bracelet when he defeated Mark Radoja heads up in Event 16: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em - Six-Handed. This marks the third consecutive year that Matros has won a gold bracelet, and tomorrow he will return to try his hand at bracelet number four.

Rounding out the notable names to return to the felt tomorrow are Greg "FBT" Mueller and Scott Seiver. Mueller and Seiver both made a deep run earlier in the series during Event 9: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Re-Entry. Seiver finished a modest 17th place while Mueller was able to make the final table, ultimately finishing in seventh.

Tomorrow players will return to play 10 five-handed tables. The winner of each table will go on to the final table where the final ten will be guaranteed a cash prize of at least $7,164. Cards will be in the air at 1:00 PM local time and we'll be here to provide you with all of the latest coverage. Until tomorrow!

Final Table Payout Information
Place   Prize
1   $116,118
2   $71,704
3   $51,861
4   $37,897
5   $27,986
6   $20,886
7   $15,747
8   $11,992
9   $9,225
10   $7,164

In the 50 names, and cashed is Jon Spinks

Event 22: $2,500 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball

Congratulations to Randy Ohel on Winning Event 22: $2,500 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball ($145,247)

Coming back today most of the eyes, and probably a lot of money in the Rio Sportsbook, were on first-time bracelet hunting David Baker and Shawn Buchanon. Layne Flack and Josh Arieh have enjoyed their spills; surely one of these two renowned players would close the deal. It wasn’t to be as Benjamin Lazer and Randy Ohel were the ones to make it to head-up.

Then began one of the most epic duels in World Series of Poker History. Their battle lasted for six and a half hours including a dinner break. The chip lead changed sides so many times we lost count. Both players had 90% of the chips in play at least twice each, but both somehow managed to fight their way back from fumes on each occasion. Something, or someone, had to give and it turned out to be Lazer. He got down to less than one big blind at nearly 2:00 AM and that situation, even for him, was too much to come back from. Ohel had a rail full of fans with him for hours upon hours and they, as he, were just as full as relief, as well as joy, come the end of the match.

He takes over the championship mantle left by these esteemed fellows:
Year   Player   Prize   # of Entrants
2007   Rafi Amit   $227,005   209
2008   Bon Phan   $151,911   238
2009   Abe Mosseri   $165,513   258
2010   Peter Gelencser   $180,730   291
2011   Lenny Martin   $189,818   309

Event 24: $5,000 Omaha Hi-Low Split 8-or-Better

James Dempsey Bubbles, The Day is Done

Mike Wattel raised to 10,000 from the under the gun position and Bart Hanson made the call. James Dempsey smiled and said, "Please no trips," as he looked down at his cards from the big blind. He put in the call and had just 2,500 chips left behind.

The flop came down {2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{2-Spades} and Dempsey put his last chips in. Wattel gave it some thought and folded after which Hanson called and said, "You're in trouble man".
Bart Hanson   {2-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{4-Spades}
James Dempsey {A-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}

The board ran out {10-Spades}{5-Diamonds} giving Hanson the win and knocking out Dempsey on the money bubble.

mbn to be able to burn $3k

Phil Ivey made it to Day 2 of this event without ever playing a hand on Day 1. The reason? He was busy working his magic over in Event 24: $5,000 Omaha Hi-Low Split 8-or-Better where he finished the day as the chip leader with 27 players left.

Because he was simply blinded off all day yesterday, Ivey made Day 2 with just 700 in chips. He never showed up today, either, as he's over in the other event, but his 700 in chips were put in when it was his turn to be the big blind. As soon as the dealer pitched out all the cards, his hand was mucked and his chips pulled into the pot. So much for that $3,000 investment

Event 23: $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em - Six-Handed
Day 3 completed

Congratulations to Simon Charette, Winner of Event #23: $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em Six-Handed ($567,624)!

Early Monday afternoon, 924 hopefuls dished out $3,000 for Event #23: No-Limit Hold’em Six-Handed in hopes of turning it into fame and fortune – or at the very least to cut a profit. After three long and hard-fought days of six-handed action, it would be Simon Charette who took home the gold bracelet and the $567,624 that went along with it.

Even with just 18 players remaining going into Day 3, it was still a stacked field with the likes of Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Freddy Deeb, Andrew Lichtenberger, Eugene Katchalov and Scott Montgomery. Fun fact: combined – those five players alone have over $25 million in tournament winnings.

Congratulations to Simon Charette, who has now bested his second-place finish that occurred last year during Event #48: $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em.

Event 25: $1,500 Limit Hold'em Shootout

Limit Final Table Set to Shoot it Out

Victor Ramdin is in contention for his first WSOP gold bracelet

Well folks, that’s all here on Day 2 of Event 25: $1,500 Limit Hold’em Shootout. Fifty players have been whittled down to just ten and tomorrow will now see a final table fight it out for the $116,118 1st-place prize, all the glory and of course, the World Series of Poker gold bracelet.

At the start of the day, there were ten tables each playing five-handed and the goal was for just one player to remain at each table. The first elimination of the day was Greg Mueller on Table 408 and from there, all of the tables started losing players one-by-one.

Some of the players who succumbed to the rail early in the day include Ari Engel, Mike Leah, Jon Spinks and Tom Hang. The likes of Mike Thorpe, Scott Seiver and JJ Liu managed to last quite a while longer, but couldn’t make it to heads-up play at their tables.

The first player to prevail over his table was Brian Meinders, followed closely by Sean Rice and Matthew Schrieber. At this point, all the tables were down to just two players and half the field would be making their way to the final table. Brock Parker also made quick work of their table, as a few of the tables played slow.

A couple of the players who were part of all the heads-up fun were Justin Bonomo and Victor Ramdin and they happened to be at the same table. Ramdin started the heads-up battle with a chip lead and after a fierce contest of ups and downs, managed to take down the victory.

Quickly after Ramdin's victory, Preston Derden took down the win at his table over Millie Shiu. Christopher Hartman was the next player to win a table and secure a spot in the final ten and after that, only four remained.

It took longer than any of the other tables, but eventually Ian Johns was too strong for Hooman Nikzad and Daniel Walker fell to the might of Darin Thomas. Here's how the final table looks:

Final Table Lineup
Seat   Player   Chips
1   Darin Thomas   155,500
2   Preston Derden   157,500
3   Christopher Hartman   162,500
4   Victor Ramdin   165,500
5   Brock Parker   164,500
6   Christopher Vitch   162,000
7   Sean Rice   160,000
8   Brian Meinders   162,400
9   Ian Johns   159,000
10   Matthew Schreiber   154,500
