Event 56: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em
Day 1 completed
Day 1 Concludes, Cash Bubble Still Intact
It was a fast-paced day of poker in this the last of the $1,500 buy-in no-limit hold'em events of this year's WSOP. Another whopping field turned out for this one, with 2,798 players together creating a huge $3,777,300 prize pool.
Eliminations came at a rapid pace throughout the day, but when bagging time commenced, it had yet to be decided who exactly among the entrants would be dividing that prize pool. A total of 305 players made it through 11 one-hour levels today, and just 297 spots pay, meaning the bubble bursting will be happening in short order when play resumes tomorrow.
Among the thousands who didn't make it through Day 1, the three currently chasing the record for most WSOP cashes in a single year all fell short of the goal in Event 56. Neither Konstantin Puchkov (currently tied for the record with 10 cashes), Terrence Chan (9 cashes), or Joe Tehan (9 cashes) survived the day.
Meanwhile others prospered, with Donald Vogel, Danny Johnson, Mark Maletic, Blake Cahill, Sam Holden, and Shankar Pillai among the many players sporting top tier stacks at night's end.
Ashton Griffin, Eric Mizrachi, and Daniel Negreanu also ended the day with above average chips, the latter following his bustout earlier in the day in Event 55: $1,000,000 Big One for One Drop.

Event 57: $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em - Six-Handed
Day 1 completed
Stanislav Barshak Leads After Ten Levels of Six-Handed Action
The $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em Six-Handed event is always one of the highlights of the summer. Big stacks, big names and even bigger pots were part of the first day of play, and Stanislav Barshak managed to come out on top with 230,700 chips. There are 167 players remaining who will come back tomorrow for day two.
One of the first players to bust out was Jim Collopy. He ran kings into Justin Bonomo's two pair and busted at the beginning of the second level. Bonomo went on the have a good day, he finished with 93,500.
A lot of attention went out to McLean Karr who was a part of a controversial hand in the second level of play. Karr had his hand declared dead in a situation where he could have won the pot. The usually quiet and composed professional was mad, and we wrote down what happened. Later on, the tournament supervisor came over and told us his side of the story after watching the surveillance footage.
Table 5, the party table, was right in front of the PokerNews desk, especially when Haralabos Voulgaris got moved there. Jason Mercier and Vicky Coren were already sitting here, and Voulgaris lit up the atmosphere. When Matt Waxman took the one open seat, and he got right into it needling Mercier about his fame. Coren and Waxman didn't managed to make it to the end of the day, and the latter was knocked out by Mercier himself. Towards the end of the day Carter Phillips got moved to Waxman's old seat, and he managed to win some off Mercier who finished with 148,300. Phillips starts tomorrow with 170,200 while Voulgaris has 77,200 left.
Nick Maimone was one of the early chip leaders and he ended the day on 171,800. Other big stacks are Dan Smith (210,000), Jeff Gross (152,000), Carter Phillips (170,200), and Ludovic Lacay (160,700).
Moorman, Cody, Boeree, Lewis. Channing, JP and Grafton
are all in the reported chip counts headed to tomorrow

Event 55: $1,000,000 Big One for One Drop
Day 3 completed
Antonio Esfandiari Wins $1,000,000 Big One for One Drop ($18,346,673)
Known to many as "The Magician," Antonio Esfandiari saved his most stunning trick for Tuesday, July 3, 2012 when he came into the final table of the $1,000,000 Big One for One Drop with the chip lead and walked out the winner, and a massive $18,346,673 payday.
When the final table began, Esfandiari was the man leading the way, trailed closely by Sam Trickett. Throughout the entirety of the final table, those two jockeyed for the top spot while everyone else was playing catch up.
On the 23rd hand of the final table, the first elimination occurred and it was Richard Yong hitting the rail. He was all in preflop with the {A-Clubs}{2-Hearts} versus Brain Rast's {K-Spades}{J-Hearts}. Yong was able to hold up on the first four community cards, but the fifth one was a king and gave Rast the winning hand.
Just under 20 hands later, Bobby Baldwin dropped out in seventh place on the 41st hand of the final table. With the blinds in Level 20 at 250,000/500,000/50,000, Baldwin was all in with the {A-Clubs}{10-Spades} versus Guy Laliberté's {J-Hearts}{J-Clubs}. A flop, turn and river ran out {10-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{7-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{7-Hearts} to leave Baldwin second best.
Next to go was Rast in sixth place, earnings just over $1.6 million for his finish after he was eliminated by Trickett in an exhilarating hand during Level 21 with the blinds at 300,000/600,000/75,000.
Rast had the button and Sam Trickett opened to 1.2 million from under the gun. Rast called and Esfandiari called from the big blind. The flop fell {4-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{8-Hearts} and Esfandiari checked. Trickett fired 1.8 million and Rast called. Esfandiari folded and the turn brought the {10-Spades}. Trickett tanked, then led out for 3.8 million. Rast called.
The {3-Spades} completed the board on the river and Trickett tanked before moving all in for 8.275 million, effectively. Rast snapped it off, tabling {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts} for a flopped flush, but Trickett turned over {3-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} for quad threes and won the pot.
Laliberté fell in fifth place on the 60th hand of the day when his {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} couldn't out-race the {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds} for Esfandiari in a massive clash for over 50 million in chips. As Laliberté left the tournament stage, he was sent off by chants of "Guy! Guy! Guy! Guy! Guy!" and given a standing ovation for all of his time and effort put into the One Drop project and this event.
Just moments after that, Phil Hellmuth was eliminated in fourth place, falling short of his 13th gold bracelet. He was eliminated on the 62nd hand of the final table during Level 22 with the blinds at 400,000/800,000/100,000.
Hellmuth's {A-Spades}{10-Spades} was up against Trickett's {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}. An exciting flop of {A-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{5-Hearts} gave Hellmuth the lead, but he still wasn't anywhere near the safe zone just yet. The {K-Diamonds} on the turn made things even more of a sweat for Hellmuth and, in the end, he just couldn't hold up when the {J-Clubs} fell to give Trickett a winning straight. For his finish, Hellmuth pocketed over $2.6 million and earned largest score of his poker career.
With the tournament down to three players, David Einhorn was the shortest stack of the bunch. Einhorn was the man who had pledged all of his earnings from this event to City Year, an education-focused nonprofit organization, and he'll be sending a check of $4.352 million their way.
Einhorn's {K-Spades}{9-Clubs} went down to Esfandiari's {K-Clubs}{10-Spades} as the board ran out {10-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{Q-Spades} and the battle was set between Esfandiari and Trickett.
Esfandiari had a 2.5-1 chip lead going into heads-up play and it only lasted 16 hands. At first, Trickett started to chip back up, but Esfandiari made trip nines on the 81st hand of play to knock him right back down. Then, all of the money went in just a few hands later on the 85th hand of the final table.
Esfandiari had the button and raised to 1.8 million. Trickett called and the flop came down {J-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}.
On the flop, Trickett checked and Esfandiari bet an unknown amount. Trickett came back with a check-raise to 5.4 million and then Esfandiari fired with a reraise to 10 million. After a minute or two, Trickett reraised to 15 million. Esfandiari raised all in and Trickett made the call.
Trickett turned over the {Q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} for a flush draw and Esfandiari held trip fives with the {7-Diamonds}{5-Spades}. Trickett was the player at risk with his 36 million on the line.
The turn was the {3-Hearts} and Esfandiari stayed in front. There was a long pause as everyone silently awaited the river card, no one more so that Trickett and Esfandiari as they stood in the middle of the stage awaiting fifth street. This river card would either swing the match in Trickett's favor or be the one that ended the tournament.
The dealer burned and turned what ended up being the most expensive card in poker history, the {2-Hearts}. And with that, Esfandiari became the richest man in the history of poker.
Final Table Payouts
Place Player Prize
1 Antonio Esfandiari $18,346,673
2 Sam Trickett $10,112,001
3 David Einhorn $4,352,000

Event 56: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em
Day 3 completed
Congratulations to Tomas Junek on Winning Event 56: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em ($661,022)
Day 3 saw 22 players return for their chance at poker fame, sadly only one of these players would finish the day with their dream still intact. Richard Teatum was the first person to fall, and after him the flood gates opened with players dropping and 18-handed play being reached fairly early on. Players barely had time to get used to their new seats after the two table redraw that takes place once 18 players are reached with Randolph Lanosga,
Paul Vas Nunes, and Sam Holden all making their respective exits within two hours of play.
Players still seemed to keep falling to the way side with Christopher Odonnell, Bastian Fischer, Dmitrii Valouev, Michael Graydon, and Alexander Queen all finishing their day before the final table. With the elimination of Queen, the remaining player’s chips were bagged up and the competitors voyaged over to the Pavilion room main stage to finish things out. Keeping up with the pace of the day Gianluca Mattia took his leave during the first couple of hands of 10-handed play.
Things slowed down once the official final table was reached. Thomas Junek was the big man on campus possessing more chips than anyone at that point in time, and David Borg was at the bottom of the totem pole. Play seemed quite tame with plenty of small pots, but that could only last for so long. Eventually a three-way pot brewed up that saw Eliyahu Levy come out the other side with a monster stack. In order to get that stack Levy had to knock out Bassel Moussa in 9th place. Tomas Trampota was next to leave as he was basically crippled in the Moussa knock out hand.
It was around this time that Borg started to move up the counts, taking a big hand off Junek, solidifying his place at the final table. A Steven Goldber elimination in 7th and a Andrew Taylor knock-out in 6th kept the gears of this final table progressing. After the elimination of Taylor the cards refused to let anyone leave, a short stacked Junek managed to get all in against Donald Vogel with the worst of it, but came out the other side with the winner. A short stacked Eastgate then did the same thing to Eliyahu Levy giving Eastgate an essential double up . Next it was Donald Vogel’s turn to move his short stack all in and come back from being behind to double up.
This string of double ups couldn't last forever, as Levy was sent home in fifth after losing a huge pot to Junek. After the hand Junek possessed a stranglehold on the chip lead possessing half the chips in play.
Peter Eastgate was next to fall after his {j-Hearts}{10-Hearts} couldn't outrun Borg's {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}, and the 2008 Main Event Champ was sent home in fourth. Eastgate had a strong showing today making good calls and finding good spots to acquire chips, but a tough beat late crippled the champ.
Donald Vogel then made his exit after his short stack never seemed to pick up any traction late in the game. Vogel settled for a nice $289,530 payday for his third place.
Heads up play got started right off the bat with Junek and Borg battling it out in one of the bigger pots of the night that saw Junek walk away the victor. Borg won the next battle though with a flush for a nice double up. In the end though Junek came out on top after Borg three-bet shoved with {k-Spades}{5-Spades}. Junek made the call with {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} and came out on top.
This not only was Junek's first bracelet, but this is also his first World Series of Poker cash. Congratulations to Tomas Junek on winning Event 56: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em.

Event 57: $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em - Six-Handed
Day 2 completed
Brammer Leads Entering Day 3
Day 2 of Event 57: $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em – Six-Handed is in the books, and after 10 more levels of play, Christopher Brammer is the chip leader with 1,467,000 chips and 27 players remaining.
The day started with 167 of the original 474 players, and a little less than three quarters of them left empty-handed. Among the players who busted before the money bubble were Lex Veldhuis, Taylor Paur, Steve Bilirakis, Andrew Badecker, Nick Schulman, Dan Smith, Hiren “Sunny” Patel, Eugene Todd, Joseph Cheong, Isaac Haxton, Dwyte Pilgrim, Haralabos Voulgaris and our bubble boy, Ryan D’Angelo.
D’Angelo was all in and at risk holding {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}, and Sam Chartier had {J-Clubs}{J-Spades}. The board ran out {8-Clubs}{2-Spades}{8-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}, and D’Angelo stone-bubbled.
The eliminations were fast and furious once the bubble burst and 48 players quickly turned into 27 in three hours. Among those who cashed, but busted on the day, were Jonathan Duhamel, William Reynolds, Kevin Stammen, Amit Makhija, Thiago Nishijima and the aforementioned Chartier. Chartier called an all in from Nick Maimone with ace-high, and was drawing dead on a board of {3-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}. Maimone held {6-Spades}{5-Spades}, and ended the night with just over a million chips.
Joining Maimone and Brammer at the top of the counts are Stanislav Barshak (1,024,000), Carter Phillips (928,000), Frederik Jensen (898,000) and Timothy Adams (831,000). Also in the hunt are Jason Mercier (525,000), Eugene Katchalov (272,000), Tony Hachem (427,000) and Kyle Julius (430,000).

Event 59: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em
Day 1a completed
Day 1a Ends Early in Level 9; Lee Leads & Ivey in Contention
The first of two starting days in Event 59, $1,000 No Limit Hold’em, of the World Series of Poker is in the books. A total of 1,740 elected to play today and only 256 remain. Tournament officials stopped play once they had reached a point where just 15% of the field remained. Leading them all is Ronald Lee after bagging up 79,325.
Chasing Lee are Dominik Nitsche (67,800), David Stefanski (65,400), Ravneet Johal (60,050), Alin Pandilica (58,500), and Bobby Pham (57,025). Notables Phil Ivey, Steve Sung, Konstantin Puchkov, Leo Margets, Claire Renaut, J.J. Liu, Roland Israelashvili, Todd Terry, and Terrence Chan remain in the field as well.
It was day where bustouts were fast and plentiful. Notables Phil Hellmuth, Justin Bonomo, David "Bakes" Baker, Barry Shulman, David Chicotsky, Erik Seidel, Olivier Busquet, Alexander Kravchenko, Fabrice Soulier, Barry Greenstein, and Tommy Vedes all gave the event a shot but did not survive the day.
Ivey’s stack never seemed to slip through out the day. He got involved in a big hand with another player that saw him chip up. He was at the turn on a {8-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} {8-Spades} {10-Diamonds} board. Ivey check-raised to 7,000 and his opponent shoved on him. Ivey called and tabled {A-Clubs} {K-Spades}. His opponent was ahead with {10-Clubs} {10-Spades} but the river fell {K-Diamonds} and Ivey nearly doubled to 45,000.
Hellmuth took to the felt today as well looking for his 92nd career WSOP cash. He was short-stacked before the dinner break and didn’t last much longer into the seventh level before he busted.
Day 1b will begin tomorrow promptly at 12:00 p.m. PST and the surviving players will combine for Day 2 on Friday. The Day 1 field will play the exact same amount of time that the Day 1 a played - until 42 minutes are left in Level 9.
Top Chip Counts

Johnicho Leads Final 31; Bronshtein, Baker & Saout Lurk
On Wednesday, the remaining 173 entrants of a 526-player field return to action in Event 58: $3,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Low Split 8-or-Better. All had their sites firmly set on the gold bracelet and the $330,277 first-place prize, though by the end of the night only 31 would remain in contention, including chip leader Felicia Johnico, who bagged up 397,000.
In the first six levels of the day, over 100 players hit the rail empty handed including Allen Kessler, Bruno Fitoussi, Huck Seed, Chip Jett, Scott Clements, Humberto Brenes, Mike Matusow, Martin Staszko and Ville Wahlbeck, just to name a few.
In Level 13, which was about a dozen players shy of the money, a massive pot developed preflop between Stephen Su and David Bach, with a short-stacked Joe Gualtieri caught in between. The preflop action is unknown, but what is known is that Bach got his stack of around 70,000 all in and was snap-called by Su.
Showdown
Su: {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
Bach: {A-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{7-Clubs}
Gualtieri: {A-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{J-Clubs}
The {Q-Spades}{2-Spades}{8-Spades} flop kept Su in the lead with his pair of aces, but both his opponents held low draws. The {8-Hearts} turn was kind to Su as it kept him in the lead and paired the board, but it'd be the {9-Hearts} on the river that would avoid a low and allow him to scoop the approximately 160,000 pot. Both Gualitieri and Bach seemed a little stunned as they exited the tournament floor while Su was understandably all smiles as he was primed for a deep run into the money.
Speaking of the money, some familiar names managed to work their way in including Matt Vengrin (53rd-$5,557), Matt Wood (52nd-$5,557), Dario Alioto (50th-$5,557), Erick Lindgren (49th-$5,557), Michael Moed (43rd-$6,778), Ray Henson (39th-$6,778) and Ryan Laplante (37th-$6,778).
While many failed to survive the day, others thrived and will be returning to action on Day 3. They include Su, Randy Ohel, Yuval Bronshtein, Kyle Bowker, Josh Field, David “ODB” Baker, Bryan Devonshire, Mickey Appleman, Antony Lellouche, Antonie Saout, Binh Nguyen and John Shipley.
Day 3 action is set to get underway at 2:00 PM PST on Thursday as the remaining 31 players will play down to a winner. Who will walk away with the bracelet and $330,277 first-place prize
Karl Mahrenholz is through with a bowl, but a spin up bowl hopefully, 6xbb
John Shipley is through with 98,500 last reported
Both guaranteed $8,329
Graham Clarkson finished 40th for $6,700
