Man Utd didn't *need* Van Persie this time last year - worked out ok, though.

Cracking player amazing signing him and Santi be very hard to stop against any side

Best panic buy ever?

 dad dont dance

Worth over paying a little IMO.

Amazed you didn't sign Sakho though. IMO you need an Adams, Vieira & Henry but Ozil is pretty incred tbf

Fair play to Arsenal. Ozil is easily the best player to join the Prem this year and for him to go to a team that scraped into 4th is pretty incred.

There haven't been many world class players in their peak join the premiership.

Mesut Ozil is deffo part of a select few.

Amazing football player.

Great signing

Look forward to watching him play....

Hilarious that its seen as the panacea to all the ills though, its one signing with other positions needing strengthening a lot more

Who said that it's the panacea to all the ills?

It's a fair old statement of intent though and an indication of the new level for future signings.

Ozil may be the best player to join the Premier League this year, but the fact remains the best players in the world play for Madrid, Barca, Bayern, PSG or Monaco.

There's a lot of very very good players at Citeh, Utd, Chelsea, Lolerpool, Spurs and Arsenal

But Messi, Ronaldo, Falcao, Cavani, Iniesta, Xavi, Ibrhimovich, Ribery etc etc etc don't

And when we finally produce a player to match these superstars. Bale, he goes off to join Madrid just as he's reaching the prime of his career.

Anyone suggest why this is?

I certainly can't see imagine an English club being the dominant force in Europe for the foreseeable future. (Chelsea fluked the CL, didn't they?)

Pretty sad really

RVP, just maybe gets into a World XI (and I love David Silva - but that's a stretch even for me)

He's the only English based player that does, or can you think of any more?

Because we don't pay the insane wages that the top end players get on the continent.

Man City do a pretty deece job paying top dollar.

Be surprised if more than 5 or 6 in the world get paid more than Yaya Toure.

According to this magazine there were 3 as of last September

1. Eto 'o - €20m
2. Ibrahimovic €14.5m
3. Rooney €13.8m
4. Toure €13m

You missed out Torres!

Weird, I've never heard of the 9th highest paid player or the team he plays for!

Dario Conca (Guangzhou Evergrande) €10.6m

Without googling, I am guessing that is the Chinese team Drogba was going to join?

The Russia factor? England is a less glamorous place to live so they pay higher wages to compensate for it.
Possible tax breaks?

It's a good point about the bleak future for English sides in the CL.
