I play in a pub game every other week and was wondering if anyone had any tips to combat the frankly mind-boggling play I see there. The game is between 6-9 players NLHE, we have starting stacks of 2500 and 9 minute blinds, which start at 25/50. No antes at all.
There are a few guys who know what they're doing, and a few who have very little idea. With some of them it is literally any two cards. I was beaten a couple of weeks ago by 42o calling my shove - the same player had previously called flop, turn and river bets with nothing - nothing so bad that he wouldn't even have beaten a stone-cold bluff.
Unfortunately, as these players know so little they are very hard to read. A guy last time was acting very strong but lost on the river when his top pair was beaten by an obvious flush. He thought he had the nuts or close to it though. Obvious flushes and straights are often missed so can't represent them.
My thinking has been that when players are this loose and unpredictable the best plan is to tighten up and hope to stack them with monsters, but with the blinds going up so quickly this isn't working well.
Any tips?

Yes don't take pub poker seriously at all.
Don't even bother thinking of any kind of strategy and just enjoy it

Blinds go up too quickly for this though.

it's impossible to "beat the game". the faster the clock and te shallower the stack, the more luck involved. I play in a weekly pub game for fun. it's £3 each, £1 of which is bounty and it's mental. I win about 1 in 8 against players who think a Super 50 is nose bleed. have a couple of pints and don't think about winning or losing. At DTD I'm a relatively tight and patient player. at the pub game I play about 80% of hands. I get to play LAG for a change

You need to learn how to beat these guys though, cos if you can't, you won't stand a chance at a higher level.

In my local pub game i used to play very simple also play on peoples egos espically when theve been drinking! Bet massive with the nuts and then tell them not to let you bluff them these simple moves seem to get calls! Just try and extract max value but no need to bluff in these games these pubs players always want to give you their chips so let them do this!

i run the poker in my local pub, i even changed the structure to make it a better game, but its still just a turbo game. too many players sit there treating it like the wsop and go off on one when they find there 3bb stack and AA getting beat by T7o.
pub poker is a bit of fun and very little skill involved

Turn up in a hoodie and sunglasses. Do not speak at all. Tank for 2 minutes over every decision. This will earn you respect.
