George is a baronet, and the sight of him and Aurelia driving the dustcart and collecting bins was irresistible.

(from John Major's autobiography)

Why would anyone have John Major's book as the nearest to hand?

Why not?

Can't imagine its the most riveting read ever.

Suppose if you have trouble getting to sleep it might be useful.

"I would call him grey, but that would be an insult to porridge" N Fairbairn. Cheesy

I imagine it being an interesting read if he was totally open and honest.

Who would have thunk it.

The very thought of Major and Currie going at it would put me right off my eggs (topical 15 years ago)

Love the word thunk though  Smiley

I did this at my mate's house last night.  Can't remember the exact line, but it was something like "it was 30 feet long and tasted like marshmallow".  The first part is a little intimidating, but the second part sounds pretty awesome.

Were you reading a Ghostbusters Annual?

Seriously? I can't imagine many things more riveting than an account of world events and real political movements by someone at the centre of it. It is also very readable in that he tells a good story; easy-reading I would say, in fact. Give it a try.

Dana's Report of Kevin's making faces in the mirror was intriguing to me

probably worse is that it took >10 minutes to actually find a book that isn't a cookbook or a Spanish dictionary.

A failure to check is remarkable because the cost of checking is so low: a few seconds of mental work (the problem is moderately difficult), with slightly tensed muscles and dilated pupils, could avoid an embarrassing mistake.
