Any opinions on which is best? Preferably from people who've been to both.
I've only ever been to Alton Towers because it's reasonably close. Probably a 2 hour drive to Thorpe but if it's worth it I don't mind.
Most important things are the rides. It's an adult trip so no need to worry about kids. Just a day of eating, drinking and generally having fun in a theme park with a bunch of idiots.
Feel free to suggest alternatives by the way if there's something I don't know about.

Thorpe IMO, much fresher an experienced than Alton Towers (I take teenagers!)
Mainly for Saw, but the journey will be a pig for you!

Been to Alton Towers nearly every year for about five years kids love it cos we stay at splashy landings.... however went to Thorpe park couple months ago and was impressed..pretty much has the same nemesis ride, new swarms pretty cool and stealth is awesome..takes off like Rita to that massive loop...Fook ! Colossus ans Saw both excellent two.... Alton needs to step up their game.. oblivion overated imo ..air good but slow...nemesis always good..thirteen once again overated..
Im a rollercoaster junkie tbh and theres more thrills at thorpe park..oh and for some reason Rush fucking terrified me....
I know your Balla Mr pie so recommend ultimate fast track pricey but Mr Sicilian don't queue...
Ultimate test..asked my equally addicted 12 year old where she wants to go for her birthday..massive vote for Thorpe Park..nuff said

Alton Towers, easily.
Any hot ladies in your group? If so, this could tilt you even more to Alton Towers - it has its own inhouse waterpark.

Looking like Thorpe Park has a lot of potential. Don't really cherish the drive but I'll get over it.
How do the fast track things work? Do you just have to queue with all the other fast track people or do you get to skip in front of them as well?

Thorpe Park with the best Fastrack to cut out the queues. I went about three years ago and they had separate fast track lanes and we just basically walked straight to the front on every ride as many times as we liked, not cheap but worth it.
