There was a 1 point safety in last nights Fiesta bowl! Tick that off the list of things I have never seen before in American football.

Is this a rule in the NFL too?

For the benefit of those who don't know, a 1 point safety is what, exactly?.........

No - I believe it is a dead ball in the NFL Keith.

Tikay - it is when an extra point misses or is blocked and they try to run the ball out but are tackled in the endzone.  Similar to a regular safety but only happens after a missed/blocked extra point.  60yo guy in the office been involved in the game all his life and says it is the first time he has ever seen it.

Yes - the reason the try and run it out is that they can get 2 points if they return it hence the penalty if they are tackled in end zone which i didn't know until just now.

If Oregon had recovered the blocked PAT in the end zone do they score a point?

Chip Kelly is on the verge of the weirdest uniform change in Sports history. Oregon to the Browns

Good news for Mr Trent Richardson. Wonder what he will do with Weeden at QB?

Hadn't heard of that rule before, seems a little unfair if I understand correctly. Happened once before in 2004 in a Texas game. Be a bit sick to loose a game by a point in those circumstances. Anyway does anyone think that Notre Dame have a chance against Bama? Could Bama beat the Chiefs!

Every ex-player, analyst, etc who's opinion I respect always speak in similar terms.  The best college teams would be a 20-30pt dog against the worst NFL teams.

Would wager my net worth on any NFL team against any college team at -30, assuming it was a competitive game.

This would be equivalent to an under 21 rugby union side against a premiership team. The pack would get massacred over 80 minutes, however much pace the backs might have. Thus I assume in NFL v College, as was mentioned earlier, the lines would do all the hard work.

I'm sure there'd be plenty who would do the same, which is why it's such a fascinating debate, but you're really just taking a view on the dynamics of a game having such a skewed line (i.e. one that you'd only see for a college game, but never in the NFL itself).

I've never done any analysis on it, but I've often wondered if betting blind on the dog in any NFL game with a massive line (which for the NFL I'd take to be >14pts) would be profitable long-term.  In college football the same rationale would probably apply to lines that are something like 35pts plus and the argument gets stronger as at that stage you're getting firmly in the the realm of game dynamics (i.e. whether teams would carry on running up the score) at that point.

It's a tough one though as to where you could set a balanced line for a game like that.  30pts is at the extreme end, undoubtedly, but it's hard to see how anyone could realistically set anything below 20pts and not expect to get the NFL side get massive action.

Andy Reid Head Coach of the Chiefs......

Does this mean Vick will move with him? Chiefs need a QB, right?

Andy Reid Head Coach of the Chiefs......

I could see how that could be a really good appointment for them.  Reid definitely needed to escape Philly and the surprise to me is that he's shown such an appetite to take another role so quickly.  There's no doubt as to his coaching credentials overall.  The question masrk is whether he can recover the Midas touch of the early part of his Eagles tenure.

The key thing here though is the firing of Pioli, which guarantees him total control over personnel.

I really hope he's a success there, especially as there's such a limited direct rivalry involved between the two teams.  I'm pretty sure most Eagles fans will feel the same way.

I'm more concerned about the news on Chip Kelly and the Browns, to be honest.  That is potentially bad news from an Eagles perspective.
