Was in Billy Hills collecting darts' winnings from last night (brag!) and couldn't resist betting two of their specials in true Ice-Cream style.
They went 10/1 Smith 3-0 and Thornton 3-0 and 25/1 Smith/Thornton/Michael win to nil.
Lets go!

Unless i'm missing something, it looks like the "match treble" betting on Billy Hills for the Gerwyn game is out of whack. 8/1 for the fave to win match, get most 180's and highest checkout. Appreciate he's the underdog for the 180 part but he's a flip for checkout and fave for the match.

Obv Gilding then binks a 132 in Leg 1 to practically kill it off the bat. Lovely.

Cracking game here. Big finishes, high averages and a potential huge upset!

Tonights games are puntery heaven! No real ricks from anyone but the games are all close so tons of chances to get em A simple Chizzy/Webster/Klaasen treble is actually pretty appealing for a decent sweat, I think Mark Webster is a little too long for this game I think Ol' Chuck might have a bottle in him on this stage tonight and Mark Webster is looking pretty solid - 10/11 Looks like the one I even went in for a little bit on MW -1.5 at 6/4. I think chizzy/PW is flipping coins so evens on Chizzy is absolutely fine for me. Klassen Taylor game should really be avoided but IDK fuck it I'll go for a lil 100/30 on JK just cos I can bet less and win more. Love the darts

Sky make it great viewing. Do you guys think Jelle can win big title after big title if he starts believing more in himself? He is such a blistering player when he puts it together.

I wouldn't have thought so. His action is such that he will always be inconsistent and likely to throw in a bad one (he got away with one against King in previous round). That said when it clicks like it did tonight he can be very very good. I'm not sure he can put enough performances like that together though.

Fascinating tournament now. Garry is straight up loving his draw now, the other side is so tough either of the 4 could easily be in the final.
Lewis vs Wright is a great match up, oodles of talent and close to unstoppable at his best Adrian Lewis, Peter Wright exactly the sort opponent who can unsettle him, never out of a leg, never misses big doubles and so reliable.
Barney vs Smith another cracker...two men with a piont to prove, one desperately wants to show the world's he's as good as ppl say he is...the other desperately wants to show the world he's still as good as he's ever been, and he has the grit to win another WC.
The two outsiders both play each other so will have one in the semi for sure. Both will love thier draw.
I think james wade vs garry garry garry is the simplest game to call tbh. Garry too good and will be so pumped up following pt and mvg exits, wade a bit ill, not at the top of his form abd doesn't have the A game to compete with garry.
Every other game could go either way :-)

Why the big increase in scoring?
there cant be any technological improvements in the darts
it might be better mental concentration and fitness?
or is it just more professionalism and practice lifting the overall standard compared to the scoring seen in previous generations?
there is more depth in the game now too, which might be a factor?. for a decade it was taylor and then the rest. now its far more competitive

The extra £££ on offer nowadays is the main reason for standards rising.

This. I reckon there must be 50 darts players a year making £100k a year all in with prize money, sponsors, exhibitions etc. Big business now.
