I think it will be good to see Wade and Jackpot out of the PL. Don't think we will see Wade again in it but Jackpot probably needs Hearn to give him the reality check and kick up the arse to sort his life/game out. Might be just what Jackpot and the sport in general needs longer term. We need Jackpot at his peak talent as he is a great watch. He has never taken the PL seriously at any point in his career. I would love to know how much you would be losing if you had backed him every game blind over the years in the PL.
I think this will be the worse standard PL for years. Not really looking forward to it tbh.

If they get the line up right, get rid of the dead wood and put the actual best players in the world in, I think it'll be sick.
Loads of people seem to think Darts isn't that exciting atm but if you watched any of the euro tours this year they have been incredible standard, UK open was a bit meh, matchplay with PT's win was exciting, had a new winner the GP and last weekends Euros were really great too. Think the order is changing, Phil is leaving, Lewis, Wade are no longer in the top 25 (on form) and new players who aren't just quite ready to smash 110 averages all the time on the big stage are coming through, next 1-2 years is going be very exciting and see a real change in the lineup of who's a superstar and who isn't.

Very competitive probably means a pretty wank standard then! We have been spoilt for years with huge averages across the board.

He’s done nothing to merit it yet. Lots of talent but of the same ilk as Smith and Bunting. He would get eaten alive.

I think Cullen has PL player in the making for sure, just needs to get a little more consistent and bring his tour form to the big stage. His doubles were his Achilles heel for ever and he's been a lot better this year.
Whats everyones thoughts on Benito van de Pas?

What price you give me that there will be at least 3 102+ averages every night in the PL pre-finals?

Despite his young age I don’t think Benito has much scope for improvement. His action isn’t great at all which is largely why he is inconsistent. I can see him kicking around the top 16 but don’t see him kickingbon and winning tournaments and making top 8 or do.

He is a 2017 version of 2012 Wes Newton imo. I just get the feeling MVG is head and shoulders above everyone. He knows it and is easing off having had a kid. Taylor never eased off in his prime he just cranked up the pain for those below even more. Not sure MVG is going to have this motiviation long term. Ando/Snake are regressing having probably reached their peak. Barney obviously the same. Remember they are both a lot older than people think (both late 40s) even though they have only been at the top of the game for a couple of years. The thing for me is Gurney ranked 4th in the world, mensur 7th currently but effectively 5th once Taylor/jackpot slip below him in the next 3 months. Jackpot and Chis are both naturally lazy individuals who just do enough to get by. I just can't have the game is great with these two ranked so high. Merv King/Terry Jenkins/Manley at their peak would have destroyed this Irish chancer and Mensur.
People talking about Cullen for the PL. Fuck me you know the game is gone when that is even being discussed. He couldn't win on TV for about four years!
I hate sounding negative but i just don't think the game is in great shape at the minute.

Position Name Value
1 Michael van Gerwen £1,691,250
2 Peter Wright £730,250
3 Gary Anderson £701,750
4 Daryl Gurney £399,250
5 Adrian Lewis £390,000
6 Phil Taylor £385,500
7 Mensur Suljovic £362,000
8 Dave Chisnall £347,500
9 Raymond van Barneveld £317,750
10 Michael Smith £306,250
11 Simon Whitlock £305,250
12 James Wade £294,750
13 Jelle Klaasen £293,500
14 Benito van de Pas £275,000
15 Alan Norris £260,250
16 Ian White £253,250
17 Kim Huybrechts £252,250
18 Gerwyn Price £244,750
19 Joe Cullen £215,750
20 Mervyn King £188,500
21 Stephen Bunting £180,000
22 Kyle Anderson £176,500
23 Steve Beaton £175,500
24 Rob Cross £172,250
25 Darren Webster £166,000
26 Robert Thornton £159,750
27 Mark Webster £145,000
28 Cristo Reyes £144,250
29 John Henderson £132,750
30 Vincent van der Voort £127,000
31 Terry Jenkins £125,000
32 Justin Pipe £124,500
How many of the top 32 are actually 'up and coming'? Just seems to me like a lot of past their best operators holding on for a pension. Even some of the youngest (Lewis/Wade) are still probably past their best motivation wise. The vast majority of the top 32 is over 35 and the ones that are younger have probably reached their peak. Where is the real talent coming through. Don't give me Gurney. He is just someone like Wade ten years ago who has run too good with draws. He is talentless/classless to be operating at 4 in the world compared to the glory years of the game. Taylor probably fancies cancelling the retirement as the game has never been easier. The fact he won the MP averaging 105 over 35 legs (imo the toughest event of the year to win) says a lot about how soft the game currently is.
Smith/Bunting/Price/Cullen/Anderson/Kim/Jelle all had years in the game now and found nothing kicking on wise to challenge the real big boys. i think the money is so big in the 10-25 rankings that the lazy boys can still make £100k a year without having to try all down to the fact the power has built them an industry to live on over the past 20 years. The fact Whitlock is back in the top 10 after his gambling/booze issues says a lot. He should be washed up if the game is really booming.

The seedings system mean that it is too difficult to break into the top 16/32.
Should be more tournaments which are a random draw and only use seedings for the Worlds, Matchplay and Grand Prix or something.

Rankings are shifting, Jackpot and Wade are on their way out of the top 16, neither will be in the top 13/14 after Xmas without a big run at the worlds, I know you hate Gurney Arb but he's been brilliant all year, big 180 man very entertaining, lots of 100+ averages, got a lot more bottle know and knows how to win. Peter Wright was blistering in the first 4 months of the year but has over-worked himself for sure and his performances have suffered but fair play he might have stupid hair but the guy knows how to win a darts match. Big bottle issues for the big moments though, imo.
Chizzy is running out of time to save his top 10 ranking, Barney is old he always relies on his major results to sustain his ranking and because of how tough the top 50 in the world are its harder and harder, whitlock is a great example - fell out of the top 30 and then grinded it back - he's had a brilliant year from start to finish and thoroughly deserves.
Cross has been the big story this year, Cadby coming next year, Kyle Anderson & Joe Cullen showing massive improvements and are both a major run away from breaking into the top 16.
Demitri van den Bergh, Johny Clayton, Chris Dobey, are three guys making a real assualt on the top 32 and then older guys like Steve West and Peter Jacques having good years and beating everyone this year.
SO many big averages and exciting games this year, because unlike 5-8 years ago when only the top 10 could beat each other and even then #10 rarely beat #3, now #7 getting turned over by #36 with a 106 average week on week, guys you probably never heard off unless you follow the euros and pro tour are bashing the top guys up. To me, I think that's exciting.
