Had a great weekends racing, went to Newbury for the Hennessy on Saturday, then to the point to point to watch Victoria Pendleton have her first ride in that code. She is actually tiny, even for jockey standards, nice tho  Smiley

5.15 start for The National?

Can't recall what position the sun is in at that time normally, but is there not a chance of racing's old enemy, Mr Low Sun, being a possible spectator?

I'm sure they have thought of this..........haven't they?!

What a farce if they end up bypassing half of the fences. Lol.

Clocks go forward on the last weekend of March. Low sun won't be a problem in early April at 5.15.

Racing finally waking up to its spot in the natural pecking order of modern day sports.  515pm fits in perfectly between 3pm kick offs and 530pm late sky sports game.  Suits all parties/stakeholders financially i would imagine.  Can't remotely see what difference it makes having it at 415pm or 515pm to 99% of punters.  If more punters bet on it at 515pm then 515pm it is.

I was in a prawn sandwich box at Spurs v Villa last year. The football was so bad, we all turned around and watched the National on the TV instead of the football...

What difference will it make?

About 3 extra pints..

Would not want to be the old bill at 6pm. Usually a lot of the potential troublemakers leave after the national. With it now being 515 can see a lot more trouble sadly

I quite like the look of Special Tiara in tomorrow's depleted Tingle Creek.

De Bromhead's string are running really well.

It's a terrific jumper, has had a pipe-opener and it's a C+D winner.

Cant see it being an issue as cheltenham festival has races at this time on the chase course a month before. Low sun tends to be worse issue earlier in the season. TBH would be more concerned that the rest of the card isnt going to get watched by anyone, meaning it is unnecessary to produce as high a quality support card.

Afternoon

While the Girlies are getting all excited about X Factor/Strictly and IACGMOOH, time to slip in the back door and make my last recommend of the year here.

On my travels I was told the stable were very keen on the chances of Highland Lodge for the Beecher Chase on Saturday.

It has always seemed to me a horse that promises a lot and threatens to have a big one in him, but has almost regressed over the last couple of seasons. However, he ran well LTO when not fully wound up for a race at Chepstow(hmm, I think I may have tipped the 16-1 winner of that. Wink). It was also his first time with the visor on which they feel helped him maintain concentration.

On Saturday, I am hoping the fences will play into his strengths as a generally good jumper. He should have very little weight, and he is rated a few pounds lower than his last win. At 8 he can still have improvement left in him, and he appears to go on any ground. Hopefully the visor will continue to help.

Whilst Aspell is riding these big races superbly atm, I would prefer to see Aiden on him, as he seems to have a better rapport with the horse. I don't see what else he would ride, based on recent performances, but Venitia may have something to say about that. We shall see nearer the time.

With several of the prominent names on the betting list likely to miss the race after recent exertions, I am liking the 20-1 on offer e/w, and have had as much as I dare on at this stage. Have a good week and GL.

Ads, cheers once again.

I have some at 20s if you need more? Also can i offer £20 E/W to TFT?

Bit of a kick in the teeth. Only a year too early.

He jumped them really well, other connections must be devastated after seeing correct front running tactics used this year.

It's firmly in the first world problems category but it was so annoying to watch, I can't believe we weren't on it.

Lots to like about the Many Clouds performance, rock solid for another tilt at the National.
