.

I was just curious if anything specific last night made it possible.

Yes, we were on the Titans.

It was timing more than anything else - it just so happened they could have a shot to nothing as the last kick of the half. At any other time in the match they don't kick it from there.

Tony,

Super Mike mentioned on Channel 4 last night that one of the previous record holders Tom Dempsey wore a special shoe to kick as he had a slightly deformed kicking foot. That sounded quite amazing, so I took a look on Wiki and it turns out he was born with no toes on his right foot and no fingers on his right hand. There seemed to be some controversy as some thought the modified shoe gave him an unfair advantage.

'''Dempsey was born without toes on his right foot and no fingers on his right hand. He wore a modified shoe with a flattened and enlarged toe surface. This generated controversy about whether such a shoe gave a player an unfair advantage. When reporters would ask him if he thought it was unfair, he said "Unfair eh? How 'bout you try kickin' a 63 yard field goal to win it with 2 seconds left an' yer wearin' a square shoe, oh, yeah and no toes either"'

There is a picture on the Wiki page of his modified shoe. Quite incredible.

Posted this in TFT and thought I would put it in here also for some input as I don't frequent this thread very much I forgot about it!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/american-football/25186609

Saw this and the commentator said its going to be the best catch of the season (something along the lines of thats as good a catch as you will see any player make in the nfl all season). Is this a case of an american over exaggerating or really the truth? Im personnally not that impressed by the catch i was just thinking what was the defender doing? Why does he not try and catch it and why does he not nail the attacker, he seems to have no idea where the ball is? Really trying to understand NFL more but somethings like this just get me confused again if this is the best then for me its just not very impressive/good enough.

Am i too biased? This catch seems a lot better to me and it probably wont be in the top 5 this year in international cricket.

I think its a very very good catch. Not the best of a season though, which commentary I regard as hyperbole

Great story!

Love that sort of stuff.

Have you ever seen an NFL game played in worse conditions than that snow last night?

That's  a brill picture Rich.

Tony, there was a game in I think it was New England maybe 10 or so years ago where Jeff Fishers moustache was frozen solid and he actually had small icicles hanging off it.

I can't for it properly from here but there might be clip on YouTube or some pics of it online.

And Prater breaks the all time field goal record with a 64 yard field goal.

How did that happen, were conditions especially favourable, strong wind in favour or something?

High altitude... thinner air and one less coat of paint on the crossbar

Well yes, the previous records were there too, but presumably the altitude has always remained much the same?

The Broncos have played in that Stadium for 13 years, & previously were reasonably adjacent, @ the same altitude.

I was just curious if anything specific last night made it possible.

It's actually remarkable as it was so cold yesterday.

The truth is there are not many situations where you would attempt a fg this long, so the record will remain beatable.

Dumb question department......

In this page, here.....

http://espn.go.com/nfl/standings

How is it that Packers & the Twins are shown to have had a Tie? I thought every NFL game had to end with a result?
