"The huge level of CON tactical voting found by ICM in Hallam is probably good news for Jim Murphy & other incumbents trying to fend of SNP"

more completely OTT nationalist demonstrations today forced Murphy's event to be abandoned, later condemned by Sturgeon

they are abusing the very people they want to support in government. very very odd

"A group of around 20 demonstrators, drawn from different fringe groups, disrupted a street rally held by Jim Murphy and comedian and Labour supporter Eddie Izzard.

They jostled Labour activists and yelled abuse in their faces, as they played loud music from a sound system to drown out the speeches.

A girl aged about six or seven was carried from the crowd in tears.

The melee threatened to become a running battle as Mr Murphy tried to lead his supporters from outside St Enoch subway station to a spot 50m away.

A number of people, including STV reporter Carole Erskine, were pushed to the ground in the confusion.

Mr Murphy and Mr Izzard attempted to make speeches urging Scots to vote Labour to keep the Tories out but were cut off."

Not disputing that there aren't idiots in each camp, I'm not so sure though that these "hardliners" are actually Nationalists.   More likely just loonballs, who like to get all shouty.  This sort of carry-on benefits nobody.

What is interesting though is that only a few days ago SNP activists in a local office/shop were physically attacked but this never got any MSM attention.

If it didn't happen in the street in front of reporters and TV cameras (like this incident) then is it any mystery it didn't turn up on the news?

had a look through his twitter. hyperbolic chap! if the conservatives have frieinds like this, who needs enemies

claims 1 and 2 are nonsense anyway. not sure i've heard either on here (and this thread is the benchmark of sensible discussion lol)

greece, ireland, iceland etc are smaller economies than ours, its the size of debt relative to size of economy that is the issue when reciepts fall because of recession etc and servicing that debt becomes a problem

i was quoting the ONS the other day that said labour took spending from 34% to 50% of GDP from start to finish of blair/brown.

again, no sensible person (and i don't include any party PR in that grouping ) is saying labour caused the crash merely that its prior policies left the economy more exposed than it otherwise might have been when an external shock hit

it is possible that osborne would have done the same as/worse than labour if he was on watch when lehman brothers hit, but as we'll never know its a valid concern as to labour's economic competence because 2008-10 was worse than it might have been if they were closer to running a surplus before it went tits up

rightly or wrongly, from my own experience of the doorstep in the last few weeks in marginals concerns about labour and the economy(and specifically ed balls, who middle england from my unscientific sample absolutely detests) run second to labour and snp as concerns, above NHS,Zero hours contracts, immigration etc

massive tactical voting in clegg's seat

ICM Guardian Hallam poll finds that 48% of those who'd support CON nationally are ready to swing to LD to support Clegg

Clegg is going to need it.

I had the misfortune to bump into the Labour candidate, Oliver Coppard today.

I have posted on here about Labour campaigning outside my daughters school. I emailed him 4 days ago without a reply. BTW, the school are not happy about it either, quite rightly the head is keen to keep political activitists of any colour away from the school.

The Electoral Commission were unimpressed but said they were powerless to act but said it was probably against local authority rules.

He didn't care what I thought as a parent or what the school thought. He was an arrogant, smug, cocky fool. Just smirked and basically said they will carry on doing what they like. You could almost see his lust for power clouding his judgement.

The level of Labour activity is unbelievable.

I hope every Lib Dem and Tory in Hallam votes for Clegg just to make sure this clown doesn't get in.

Not really because most of what appears in the news doesn't just happen in front of journalists and TV cameras.  Perhaps the next question should be why were the media attending this event in the frst place?

because in an election campaign teams from all the tv channels and newspapers follow leaders round each day? every event is covered. a big set piece rally like this especially

i think murphy did exceptionally well to react as little as he did.

they may not be nationalists, the loonies, but a) the assumption is they are and b) it reflects terribly on Scottish politics. all the quisling/scum stuff is pathetic

as Izzard said after "i hate the tories, but at least they behave like humans"

Why shouldn't they campaign outside a school? Parents vote AFAIK

Its the first time in 30 years of voting I have seen active campaigning directly outside a school.

As I've said, the school are concerned and don't want it.

Schools are places to educate our children not to see political parties ramming leaflets down your throat. As the Head said to me, he doesn't want the direct area bang outside the school to become an acceptable place for political activists.

The Electoral Commission said it concerned them and most councils ban this type of activity outside schools. They do that for good reason.

There are dozens of opportunities for all parties to push their agenda, they don't need to do it at schools.

I think I must be one of the few non labour voters who likes Ed Balls.  Smart and has a sense of humour imo.  I'd be happy with him at the treasury.

Leafletted parents outside schools in many elections myself and I'm sure I've seen politicians on TV in schools all thru this election too.
