I'm warming to this idea. Old people aren't affected, by and large, by employment policies, mortgages, interest rates, crime (most victims are young, not old). Things like the environment, foreign relations and defence don't matter to them, cos they're going to die soon anyway. The only issues that affect them are things like healthcare, social care and pensions, ie things that the Tories are forever cutting. Yet they go and vote overwhelmingly for the Tories. As they clearly vote for the wrong people, there is a case for not having a vote after you retire.

Clearly   That's funny mate, thanks for the good belly laugh.

I clearly need to borrow some smilies from you so it's more obvious if a post isn't meant to be serious.

Well based on some of the other stuff written on here today it actually isn't that clear tbh.....I know you socialists are desperate to get in, so I wouldn't be surprised if a few of you are serious, desperation calls for desperate measures.

I think you're in a minority of one in thinking that was serious Woodsey.

Maybe, but if you only read this thread you would also wonder how the fk labour doesn't have a massive majority government....

ouch

Jeremy Corbyn is a threat to national security, says ex-Labour defence secretary and serving shadow defence minister:

"“Frankly, he is never going to get into power.”

It's strong but seems fair enough. Cameron certainly offended me.

Somewhat undermines the idea of a free vote; if the party wants them to tow the line it should be whipped - if they think they should represent their constituents and their own conscience it should be free.

It's obviously not a surprise at all that the Unions think that MP's should do what the unions and activists want.

It's a poorly written letter and as is symptomatic of so much that is wrong with the Left, it's angry and fails to present a cohesive argument because of it. To most people Union's = hot under the collar guy who looks like he drinks too much ranting on the telly. They do so little that is positive for the cause they believe in.

Are we sure it's genuine? Looks like a Conservative Central Office stunt.

It's a letter from one branch of a union, not sure why this constitutes a threat to MPs? AS far as I know there isn't a Labour MP in Colchester?

I can't remember the number but it was something like 23 MP's that received it - I'm assuming all the ones in that region.

It might not be from the head office as such, but it does give a pretty good idea about unions; they seem to have a problem in understanding that they're not the soviet era communist party and that an MP should actually be representing his constituents and the country rather than The Party and it's activists.
