A post-Brexit trade deal with the US could mean UK consumers being forced to accept rodent hairs, maggots and animal faeces in their food under US regulations likely to be imposed as part of any post-Brexit trade deal with Trump.

US regulations set out how many rat hairs or maggots are allowed to be included in common food products.

No such limits are allowed under UK and EU law.

The Shadow Trade Minister told Business Insider that UK consumers were set for some "unpleasant surprises."

Polls show that British people would prioritise protecting UK food safety standards over a free trade deal with the US.

The whole article is just pointless. The fact that the UK and EU have ‘no such limits’ doesn’t mean that food here is purer. It just means that there are no specified limits for contamination.
Our having no limits didn’t prevent horse from getting into our beef. That’s horse, not horseshit.

Have a look at the limits that are set though. A pound of ginger might actually include 0.00066138678% of shit? Fuck, that’ll kill us all.
It’s almost certainly cleaner than most poker chips you’ve ever handled.
It’s probably a lower rat shit % than is in tap water.

If you want to check the maths btw...

14% of US citizens suffer a food borne illness annually, 1.2% here currently

not exactly pointless

...but not so keen on this.

As a consumer nobody is gonna 'force' me to accept rat poo food.

Bet David Green wouldn't use 'forced to eat rat poo' imagery...

It probably is a less than good example. But then using the fear of a minuscule potential level of rat poo in ginger is a pretty poor way of generating fear of the future.

Stupid though? I resemble that remark.

Up to the second comma, I agree. My rule (similar to yours) has always been that there are two ways to get ahead in the world:

1: Work harder than the competition.
2: Apply more intelligence than the competition.

Downhill after that though, people are nothing like businesses or countries and countries are nothing like businesses. With the three things being so different. We can’t imo really use the same language or admire the same characteristics when assessing what a successful version of each looks like. A reasonable and relevant example of this is that a country will get rich by saving up the pennies.

I’m reluctant to comment on the increasingly lame ‘Remoaner’ comment but I do have a question. Are you saying people who voted Leave are superior in some way? There has been extensive research in to voter demographics since the Referendum.

On to Finland:

https://tradingeconomics.com/finland/personal-income-tax-rate

https://borgenproject.org/poverty-rate-in-finland/

Looks like a well run country to me and whilst I love the story about Oulu, it’s not imo anywhere near the most impressive thing about Finland.

For comparison:

https://www.statista.com/statistics/284306/united-kingdom-hmrc-tax-receipts-income-tax/

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poverty_in_the_United_Kingdom

The countries are different in so many ways so the merit of the comparison is limited, I’m sure there’s something to be learnt though. Here we are merrily on our way to 17% corporation tax.

Well I’d certainly say that people that crack on with life and make the best of a situation are certainly more superior than those that sit around and whine.....
