the Times

"There are three big questions worrying government figures

1. Are the DUP difficulties with the backstop soluble

2. Are they bluffing about bringing down confidence and supply agreement and Theresa May

3. How might you survive if they aren’t bluffing"

"In hindsight was Britain right or wrong to vote to leave the EU?"

Right 40% (-2)
Wrong 47% (-)

Leavers 81% "right"
Remainers 88% "wrong"

18-24 56% "wrong"
Pensioners 61% "right"

Tories 72% "right"
Labour 69% "wrong"

YouGov Oct 8-9

How do you explain this one, Tighty? That 12% of people have since been persuaded that staying in the EU was a bad idea.

I can't.i think survey respondents might be clueless (all sides all parties)

and the general population seems pretty entrenched if this sample is to be taken at face value. Old v young, leave v remain, lab v con.

The percentage that struck me the most was the 69pc labour wrong, obviously not what Corbyn thinks and in a nutshell explains the fence sitting til it's all over by the opposition

Wouldn't it basically be floating voters who 'object' to the hardline the EU have taken.

We're used to the idea of floating voters in the 'proper' elections but even with the entrenched views there are going to be some people who were persuadable either way for the referendum.

At least some of them might have decided the headlines they've read about EU negotiations turned them off the idea of the EU.

Funny the things you notice when you're reading through, catching up on the thread.

What a difference two hours can make.

Thank you Tikay.

Easy, polite, no name calling, labelling, or poking.

Very good.

So do the Remoaners truely think we will suddenly just drop our standards just to get a deal?

It would also mean the US have to acknowledge publically that they will lower their standards to us......

Seems highly unlikely to me....but then I believe any old guff apparently......

Not at all sure what your point is here Mint. Obviously another one trying to dig me out for something, perhaps?

I dont see any swearing, personal name calling, perfectly polite, and some self deprecation....so what is the deal?

Remoaners

you don't like it if leavers are called stupid or racist. Remain voters don't have to be called remoaners, particularly if they make cogent comments pointing out the obvious (its a mess and a potential disaster, and has been for about two and a bit years!)

so you are being called out for being a hypocrite.

my wording

Could someone please tell the DUP the best deal is the one they have now?

newspaper copy

"In today’s Belfast Telegraph, Arlene Foster (DUP) argues vociferously to retain the UK single market, no sea border and the importance of keeping the (British) Union intact."

journalist wording

"One official close to Eurosceptic ministers says at least “nine members of the cabinet” will reject a customs union between the UK and the EU that had no end date, unless it explicitly set out how Britain could “extrapolate itself”."

don't suppose this will go down too well in some quarters

Graham Norton on the late late show

"I shut my eyes. I do some deep breathing. There is a bloody-mindedness about it.

Some sort of Brexit is going to happen even though at this point everyone knows it's a bad idea.

I do think that there is something very British about it.

'I said I was hungry enough to eat my foot, so I'm going to eat my foot.'

So come next year we are going to be having toes as an amuse-bouche."

Just sigh.

You honestly compare being called a Remoaner with being called a racist? Yeah, thats a level playing field. Grow up Tighty and get a thicker skin.

Call me as stupid as you like, tell me to fuck off. That's fine, but as someone that has never met me and acts as the self proclaimed voice and  judge of Blonde your comments at times are totally out of order

so we have the interesting prospect of some (30? 40?) of the tory ERG and all of  DUP voting against a longer transition, preferring no deal (yes really)

and May then having to rely on the sensible labour MPs to vote with her to get i through (and potentially save her government

which raises an interesting question as raised in the Indy

"If it comes down to a choice between a deal that keeps us close to EU & a no-deal Brexit, I cannot see how Labour MPs could put some twisted notion of party advantage ahead of the national interest" says the writer

the headline is a good one if you click into this

i didn't think so

both are name calling (admittedly to a different degree, and i wasn't calling you stupid or racist just pointing out thats the normal epithet addressed at leavers), as John was correctly pointing out

Have a nice day
