pertinent comment

"May, I suspect, interprets Brexit largely through immigration. This might explain why she put her red lines where she did and why there is compromise on the things that motivate other Brexiteers (trade, courts etc). Again, the consequence of a Remainer implementing Leave."

Theresa May's letter to the nation

I think she needs to say 'taking back control' a few more times.

The Brexiteers are demanding a Brexit model that respects and reflects what people voted for.

But they don't actually have any idea themselves which model people voted for.

Canada. Canada plus. Norway. Switzerland. No Deal?

Which of these models did each of the 17,410,000 people individually endorse in the referendum?

May seems to have framed her deal in terms of stopping freedom of movement and it still pools sovereignty more than many are happy with on the leave side

but its an impossible job isn't? all borne of a simplistic referendum question

So to summarise, Brexiteers are now demanding No Deal.

Which is the one outcome they told us during the Referendum would definitely not happen and was Project Fear scaremongering.

And they want this because not to have it would betray what 17m people voted for in the Referendum?

without that being properly defined at any point pre, during or after?

"It may, of course, be that Labour does get an election or referendum by defeating the withdrawal agreement. I can't work out how you get to 320 votes for that but could be. If they don't, however, they are gonna have to facilitate the exit deal passing:"

some meaty economics for you, but practical stuff

"If Britain plumped for a no deal Brexit, in those first glorious hours of sovereignty the UK’s financial system would rely on an effective bail-out from foreign central banks (fx swap lines). And no 100% guarantee some (esp the ECB) would provide them"

Ian Hislop sums up May’s deal:

“We’ve got a deal. It’s extraordinary. No one likes it, which is exactly right. Half the country don’t like it for one reason, half the country don’t like it for the other reason. So, that’s what you voted for. So, there we are"
