interesting reflections from times political correspondent Sam Coates at the G20 in China
1. Brexit is one of the main topics of concern at the economic forum. We are on the agenda as an "issue"
2. Theresa May has spent the summit trying presenting Britain as dependable and outward looking - striking this is even necessary
3. Diplomats surprised by force of President Obama's critique of UK - openly saying Brits voted the wrong way in the referendum
4. President Obama publicly assigning low priority to a trade deal - he could have been more helpful in public
5. There are suggestions that Obama was even more frank with Mrs May behind closed doors
6. Australia PM Malcolm Turnbull seized on the diplomatic void and played the role of Britain's closest friend at this summit -unusual look
7. The jaw dropping 15 page Japanese letter demanding a "soft" Brexit and threatening job - will others follow?
8.President Obama and John Kerry met Merkel and Hollande this morning. An EU/US summit with UK out of the room.
9. The spectacle of President Putin trying to use Brexit to pitch new trading relationship with UK to get out of Brexit. TM refused.
10. Doesn't matter diplomatically, but it will linger in memories: Theresa back left of the G20 photo
11. The big picture geopolitics of this summit is the US edging towards a deal wtih Russia over Syria - not clear UK playing much of a role
On the Obama comments - feels like the US are great friends when everything goes the way they want. |

I imagine that they are going to re-release "one in ten", this time referring to the 10% of the electorate that will vote for Corybyn's Labour.

Do you think it was a mistake for May to explain the ideological differences between Corbyn's Labour and her Conservatives on the role of Government in such simple terms?
Isn't the Tories' tried and tested tactic to argue labour doesn't know what it's doing and has no clarity of vision?

Its scary to think 29% of our population would vote for an imploding, shambolic party. They are struggling to get through a leadership vote, can you imagine them running the country? They couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery. |
