One thousand to one the player didn't realise what had happened.
Deserves to be banned.
It is probably also 1000/1 he actually gets paid if he does cash in the event as well. Therefore he is setting fire to $125 purely for the craic of playing the event if he knew. By the time the players made the cash the till wouldn't have balanced by just under 25 large, the CCTV would have been reviewed and it would be obvious it was this guy. Having played loads of these 'daily $125's and $200s' in vegas i would say a big proportion of the field haven't got a clue, just want to play and won't even look at the ticket. I think it is pretty likely he could have just got the ticket, asked the guy where his table was and went to sit down and handed his ticket to the dealer and cracked on. Certainly don't think it is a 1000/1 shot. If he is a total casual it is not a big price he wouldn't have a clue who ivey et al were anyway even if they were sat next to him.

While I'm also in the camp that he probably knew what he was doing, someone playing a $125 tourney in Vegas is by no means a 'poker fan' who recognises when he is sat with the likes of Justin Bonomo, Doug Polk etc. A lot of people playing tourney's in Vegas have no clue about the high roller scene or the names of any famous players.
The first WSOPE at London Patrik Antonius left his seat to go to the gents, and I saw some random American tourist sat down and gave the dealer £200 and said 'is this enough to buy in?'. This table included Howard Lederer, Gus Hansen, Chris Ferguson, Tony G and a few other bracelet/EPT level champs. She had no clue who they were or even that the WSOPE was happening.
Dude probably knew what he was doing, but IMO better chance of it being an honest mistake than most of you chaps think.

If he's a random tourist, getting banned is fairly irrelevant and if he's a regular he obviously deserves it.

It could easily be a mistake, at least to start off with. Vegas poker rooms are not exactly welcoming to newbies, particularly when a proper tourney is on.
Can easily see the guy just going where is told, sitting and playing, realising he is in the wrong tourney and being too embarrassed to say anything.
If he did know what was going on so what imo. Is it immoral?, probably, but this is gambling. The casino doesn't give you your money back when you fuck up.
He obviously hasn't bought in looking to scam the place, the cashiers fucked up.

Been there, done otherwise.... In the ukipt at Edinburgh I had exited the main and entered a side event. As I took my ticket to the floor to be seated he pointed me to Liv Boerees table and a spare seat matching my ticket number. I sat down, thought about it for a nano second, then removed myself promptly to explain the error. Cant think why anyone would think it acceptable/forgiveable to do othewise.
