You'd think the US of A politicians & Civil Rights leaders would want to see better gun controls, too - it just occurred to me how many of them have been shot in my lifetime. I'm sure there are more than this, but without even googling, these names come to mind....

John F Kennedy

Governor Connally

George Wallace

Bobby Kennedy

Martin Luther King

Ronald Reagan

Seem to recall another - a Lady politician who was shot in the neck & paralysed, too.

Mass shootings in the US since 2012. ("mass" = 4 or more people shot).

986 of them.

a very poor system for diagnosing mental health problems and treating them is part of the issue too

the pro gun lobby is everywhere

yesterday on twitter

Gov. Mike Huckabee ‏@GovMikeHuckabee

Obama can shamelessly try and exploit any tragedy he wants, but it's clear that gun free zones are sitting duck zones.

anybody who thinks it would not happen here if we had the same access to guns is completely deluded.

Quite.  Easier to talk of thick Americans I suppose.

After Port Arthur and Dunblane the people of Australia and UK accepted stricter gun control.

It seems like whatever the atrocity, Americans never will.

That is the difference. If we had the same gun laws as the USA I'm sure you're right.

Yes that's true.  I guess the stupidity is the refusal to change.

People comparing the UK and the U.S. on gun law is pretty silly.

The fact is Americans have guns, a lot of them, if they somehow banned guns overnight the bad guys aren't just going to hand them in, in short it won't work. Things will have to change very gradually through stricter controls. This will happen but guns will be legal in the U.S. until long after I die.

That's all I was ever trying to say.

If there was the exact same amount of guns per capita in the UK I think there would be less gun crime than in the USA, but there would be alot obviously.

The refusal of the gun lobby to even countenance proposals that might reduce these tragedies is why I think they are stupid.

I think it goes beyond stupid, it's evil sociopathic corporate greed. Gun sales go up whenever there is a mass shooting, I actually think they like it when these things happen rather than see it as bad PR.

Most of the (many) problems they have in America are the result of how easy it is to buy politicians.
