Quite the conversation Robert Reich had with a former Republican member of Congress. This is worth a read.

what I don't get is how so many people vote for R who will in no way benefit directly from the tax cuts they always talk about, whilst of course being negatively affected by the knock on consequences.

at least nuclear war would maybe be slightly too far to go for tax cuts, but everything up until that point is fine

George W took Trump apart yesterday, without naming him, in a powerdul speech that, we are told, he wrote himself.

His intervention is assumed to be principally aimed at those Republicans who have been rationalising their support for Trump.

Still can't pronounce nuculer, mind.

It's been another terrible week for the Administration, with matters getting worse day by day, and it was all of their own making. It should have been a good week, with the Senate passing the Budget 51-49, but that was lost in the fallout from Trump's call to the soldier's family.

Anyone who hooks up with Trump seems to come away lessened by doing so. We have seen people join the team with glistening reputations from starry careers, only to have that reputation muddied as Trump infects them. John Kelly is just the latest to try to guide and improve Trump and, as usual, the opposite happened. This week, Kelly sank to Trump's level, with a personal attack to make a point. Not only that, he lied. Trump, Kelly and Huckabee-Sanders were all shown to have lied to the American public on the issue (which should never have been an issue) as the week degenerated.

But they bulldoze on to next week, apparently unaware of the effects of their actions.

Remember the Al Smith Dinner just before the election last year, when Hilary and Donald went at it?

It's that time again and it was Paul Ryan's turn this year.

He isn't a natural comedian, but someone has written him some cracking lines.

Here's a flavour. The full thing is on YT.

Yesterday Trump arrived at Trump Nat'l Golf Club in VA. This was his 76th day at a golf club, 96th day at a Trump property as president.
