The one time Pence couldn’t support Trump was when the Access Hollywood tape came out, as it genuinely shocked him and his wife. We now know that he didn’t take Trump’s calls for a day or two and agreed to a coup, with himself and Condaleeza Rice taking over the ticket. I’ve no idea how Mike reconciled himself to having a lesbian Vice President, but he seems to be able to cut back on his principles when required.

That's the most comical thing. They all talk about how bad the others are, and they're almost exclusively all as bad as one another. The religious nuts like Pence, who wave their bibles with one hand, and have their fingers crossed behind their back while they cheerlead the donald Cheesy

I've got Bill Perkins' 'Die With Zero' on pre-order, so might get that as well and read it while I'm on my med-vac next month.

One I hadn't seen.

Yeah, Graham used to be tight with Biden and McCain and the three of them used to travel together, although Biden was on the opposite side to the other two. Joe and Jill have both said at different times that they used to be friends with him and they don't know what happened to change him.

He has tweeted about her Convention speech last night though.

Just keeping quiet on Joe, to avoid the donald's wrath, lol.

Very odd, but then again, I guess they all just look after themselves.

A message from Tulsi on the holy day of Janmashtami.

The uncertainty that this year has brought has made her reflect on....the time she spent deployed in the Middle East. No surprise there - I’d guess that buying a pint of milk or doing the crossword reminds Tulsi of her time in the Middle East.

Tulsi’s husband - l’m just going to the bathroom.
Tulsi - That reminds me of the time I spent deployed in the Middle East.

Tulsi finished a creditable fourth of the three names on the ballot in last week’s crucial Connecticut Primary, which unfortunately meant that she didn’t collect the 2,624 delegates she needed to overhaul Joe Biden, so remained on a total of 2 going into the Convention.

Connecticut Result:
218,791  Joe Biden
  29,797  Bernie Sanders
    5,911  Uncommitted
    3,377  Tulsi Gabbard

Tulsi will be leaving Congress at the election, so we may not see much of her from now on, though her many appearances on Fox News during her Presidential campaign led to speculation that she was auditioning for a role there, so perhaps she’ll still be part of our lives after all.

Congress is about to be joined by a conspiracy theorist. Not some backwoods Congressman pandering to the crackpot ideas of his base, but a proper conspiracy spreader. Marjorie Greene, who has just won the run-off in the GOP House Primary for Georgia’s 14th District, was one of the main contributors to the American Truth Seekers website and loaded lots of conspiracy-based posts and videos on her own Facebook and YouTube. Some of her topics included:
  • Child sex and Satanism amongst Democrats
  • Hillary Clinton having several people killed
  • The Vegas shootings (where 58 people were killed) being staged to make gun owners look bad and promote gun control
  • Denial that there was a plane crash at the Pentagon on 9/11
  • A ‘Muslim invasion’ in the House of Representatives
Her racism and support for conspiracy group QAnon have received a lot of attention since she began her run for Congress, and the ATS website and most of the YT/FB videos and posts have been deleted, though it is still possible to find the site and some of videos eg:

https://web.archive.org/web/20180420223357/http://americantruthseekers.com/must-read-democratic-party-involved-with-child-sex-satanism-and-the-occult/

[The Q she refers to as a patriot is the mysterious originator and inspiration of QAnon.]

The Republican Party leadership is not happy:
  • “These comments are appalling and Leader McCarthy has no tolerance for them.” – spokesperson for Kevin McCarthy, Republican Leader in the House.
  • “Obviously Rep Cheney opposes these offensive and bigoted comments.” – spokesperson for Liz Cheney, GOP Chair.
  • “The comments made by Ms Greene are disgusting and don’t reflect the values of equality and decency that make our country great.” – Steve Scalise, GOP House Whip.
https://www.politico.com/news/2020/06/17/house-republicans-condemn-gop-candidate-racist-videos-325579

Those videos and posts were mostly made 2-3 years ago and, in fairness, she has tried to distance herself somewhat (“I’m not a QAnon candidate”), but hasn’t recanted (except for the 9/11 part). While running for Congress, Marjorie has cast herself as a small business owner who opposes gun control, open borders and the Green New Deal, with a particular bee in her bonnet about Socialism, characterising all Democrats as Socialists, which is all standard amongst the Republican right wing, and even centrists (apart from the fixation with Socialism). Her election videos are your standard crackpot God & Guns ads that stay on the party-acceptable side of the line:

There are a few dozen candidates who have expressed support for QAnon, but most have no chance of winning their Primary, never mind being being elected. One other has won a Primary in Oregon, but that's safe Dem country, so that's as far as they're going. ‘Future Republican Star’ Marjorie, on the other hand, is a certainty to make it to Washington, now that she has won her Georgia Primary, barring something extraordinary happening. No doubt there'll be a lot more to her story once she gets there.

Trump recently tweeted a poster showing a clear message of the contrast between the President supporting the police to protect the public, as opposed to the chaos that occurs in Democrat-controlled cities, the suggestion being that this is where America is headed if it votes in the Democrats.

Except the right-hand photo isn't from a Dem city. The Coptic Cross on the policeman's shoulder identifies him as a member of Ukraine's internal military, and the crowd are pro-democracy demonstrators. They were protesting against the 2014 attempt to turn Ukraine into a one-party state by Viktor Yanukovych, advised by Donald Trump's future campaign manager Paul Manafort (currently doing 7.5 years as a result).

Three weeks after death, Herman Cain continues to tweet at a Trump-like volume.

On this evidence, he would have made a great President.

Biden didn't seem too bad for someone who is supposedly suffering from dementia.

Yeah. The whole thing was a great production. Your favourite, Sarah Cooper, had a slot. And Selina Meyer boosted her standing enough last night to run again. Mixing the pieces by 'ordinary people' with the politicians and celebs was done well and moved quickly, so it didn't become too schmaltzy. I liked the lift attendant who did the nomination, but I could have done without the musical interludes, though I know that's just me. They took a bit of a risk putting Kamala on after Obama. Good as she is, no-one is going to outshine him. They got away with it, but it seemed an unnecessary risk in a highly-choreographed week. It was interesting how they hid Bill away in a minor slot - next time he'll just be allowed a quick wave. Star of the show was Bloomberg's pet fly.

Warren's 'subtle' message wasn't very subtle.

@AlxThomp: The Dems gave Sarah Cooper as much time as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
@AOC: If I had a second for every time someone said X got more time than me I’d pool them together and give them to @JulianCastro

Haha, fly getting his screentime!

I just paused the livestream and watched his speech, then it was a bit of waving and the Coldplay song out in the carpark.

Got Trump foaming, which I suppose is the only aim they can really have had, given everyone seems so entrenched in their positions..

Just spotted Warren shelf, and why are ppl so obsessed with riling up AOC's lack of time?
