What a horrible speech by Trump, dragging the occasion down to basics.
He could have been more gracious, just for today.
Not an inaugural speech that will go down in history.

Well it probably will, but for the wrong reasons.

I think it will go down in history and I suspect his supporters loved it. I'm starting to think he is going to be a two termer to be honest.
Bernie could have written the first half of that speech

looking at his picks he doesn't seem to be setting up for anything long term!!

Far far too early to suggest that.

Of course it is. But I just did anyway.
We can all turn our noses up at his speech, but I think the Americans will have loved that speech. It also sets him up for immunity to criticism with his base, who will now blame Washington and the media for any shortcomings he has for the next four years. If the odds weren't so short I'd sling a few quid on it.
Of course he could just as easily get impeached for pissing on a war memorial this weekend.

We give him a lot of criticism (all deserved), but credit where it's due:

Some of the Cabinet confirmation hearings have been horrific, with the nominees' unsuitability for their positions being badly exposed.
One of the worst performances this week was Betsy DeVos' car-crash hearing, where she repeatedly avoided answering questions and was exposed as not only being ignorant of one of the major discussion points in education, but expressed the view that guns shouldn't be banned from schools in case they were attacked by grizzly bears.
How could such a person be nominated as Secretary of Education? After getting her to agree that her family had donated $200m to the Republican Party (yes that amount is not a mistype - her father-in-law founded Amway), Bernie Sanders asked her flat out the question that everyone was thinking "Do you think, if you were not a multi-billionaire, if your family had not made hundreds of millions of dollars in contributions to the Republican Party, that you would be sitting here today?"

I don't mean to underestimate Blondes' attention spans. This is a longer series of extracts from DeVos' horror-show.
The reason she doesn't want to answer Tim Kaine's questions is because she wants to move some funds from public schools to private profit-making school companies, which would not be subject to all of the same regulations.
