Govern Me Daddy!

An unlikely sex symbol has emerged in Kentucky.

Salon came out with an odd piece last week about how Kentucky women were lusting after clean-cut Governor Andy Beshear during his daily 5pm coronavirus briefings.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has just discovered the you can pass on the virus even if you're not showing symptoms.

Someone really should have told the Governor about this before instead of keeping it secret.

Up til now, Brian has been holding out against wholesale shutdown, limiting it to certain areas, but this discovery is obviously a game-changer and he will have to change strategy.

His statement is shocking. It's hard to believe that a State Governor didn't know something that everyone else knew for weeks. Either he is lying, which is inexcusable, or he really didn't know, which is astounding and also inexcusable. He really should have found a different cover-story, but this is out now and will haunt him. You may remember that he more-or-less stole the election against Stacey Abrams - the next one may be even tougher for him after this.

Other Republican Governors, particularly in Florida and Mississippi, have also talked tough about not allowing a flu bug to close their State. Governor Tate Reeves (Mississippi) issued an order to close businesses except for a wide list of essential services, which included bars, restaurants and gun shops. All three Governors are indebted to Trump for helping them to their knife-edge victories. In the last couple of days, the President has realised just how serious the situation is, and he called Governor Ron de Santis in Florida yesterday and instructed him to stop grandstanding and close everything down. Once the word was out, Georgia and Mississippi quickly followed. This was Kemp's attempt to cover up the u-turn.

The revelation is right at the start of this, but for some reason, I couldn't stop watching the whole thing.

Thanks for the US updates everyone, really interesting to see how each state is affected, and is fighting it.

If anyone spots any more Cuomo v Cuomo videos please post as the first two were hilarious.

Governor is surely gone at the next elections, you would think.

Kemp was previously Secretary of State for Georgia, which includes responsibility for elections and voter registration. In that role, he actively squashed voter registration by Blacks and Asians in several different ways, including disenfranchising thousands of voters through exact-match registration and ID requirements, both of which are targeted at Black voters (exact match means rejecting non-perfect registrations that don't match exactly with driving licence or other ID, even for hyphens or spaces. Blacks in Georgia were rejected on exact-match 7½ times as often as Whites.)

Most blatant of all was the 2018 election for Governor, which was overseen by Kemp, even though he was a candidate. This wasn't just a theoretical conflict of interest. Over 50,000 voter registrations were delayed by Kemp's office - without notifying the applicants. Over 300,000 people were wrongly told they were ineligible to vote, though it was then announced that they could vote if they showed up with ID, but many probably didn't. He won by just 55,000 votes out of 3.9m cast, with 50.2% against 48.8% - a broad-daylight theft. He received 74% of White votes, she received 93% of Black votes.

He has been absolutely excoriated by the media for what he said, so it could be the end of him. On the other hand, it's 2½ years til the next election, so anything could happen between this and then. We saw some of his 2018 campaign ads earlier in the thread. They were clever and well-produced, though it's clear which parts of the electorate they were aimed at:

The sign language guy is an entertainment in himself.

He's great, isn't he? Having accompanying sign language is much more of a thing Stateside than here. Most of the Governors have them and they seem to be given very prominent positions beside or even in front of the speaker. Cuomo is getting pressure to get one, cos he's one of only three Governors not to have one (the White House doesn't either). It's strange to see States like Georgia and South Carolina being leaders in something like this.

It seems that American Sign Language is more demonstrative and exaggerated than British Sign Language, so it makes for a great show, and several of the signers have become mini-celebrities. The first one is current - the other two are a bit older.

And one more of our hero. He does lots of signing for Kemp and there are lots of good clips of him doing that. Then at weekends, he does freelance work - like signing a Beyonce concert:

It would be pure comedy if Trump had one.

Trump bends the truth a couple of times here but I'd say he comes off best in this exchange with Chuck - but, seriously, this is what they're doing?

Do you remember only a few years ago it was considered unbecoming to run a negative campaign?

Another absolutely crackpot Trump press conference.

He is literally going to kill thousands of Americans by his inane and ignorant comments.

You would think he had set the bar so low that not even the world record holder for limbo
dancing could get under but he continues to defy any sense of normality .

I am not articulate enough to put into words what a complete mess he is.

Factually incorrect on so many topics and so vindictive towards anyone who speaks
out against him . Such a childish brute.

Still not one ounce of empathy towards any of the victims and declares them “ numbers” now.

It’s a freak show it really is . Children in America will look back on this administration in years to come
and ask their parents how the fuck did you let this halfwit run our country for a whole term and possibly
two terms.

Not a lot shocks me but I am truly staggered by how much he gets away with without recourse.

Complete nut job .
