How many of you are active or lapsed musicians?

If you currently play an instrument, is it just for yourself, or do you perform in public?

Have you got any videos or recordings you want to share?

Any gigs coming up?

There must be more than just me and Red Dog who plays.

I'm really disappointed that no one replied. I was hoping we might get people posting their party pieces.

Unfortunately I am not musical in the slightest. The closest that I ever came to playing a musical instrument was at school aged about 7 years old. As I was sat in class all the kids except me put their right arms up, not wanting to feel left out I raised my arm. What I didn't know that all the other kids did was that the teacher just asked who wanted to learn how to play the recorder. I hated it.

A valuable lesson was learned that day, don't be a sheep!

I don't really count as a musician cos I'm not very good, but on the plus side I'm not shy and I'm a bit of a show off, so I don't mind being not very good in front of people.

I enjoy doing an impromptu turn. In general, people are very forgiving of amateurs who are prepared to stand up and have a go, and If I make a balls up it just adds to the fun.

I once went in to a pub in Ireland, everyone was standing with their back to the wall, all around the room except for one person who was standing in the middle of the floor singing. When he finished his song everyone applauded like mad and then he returned to his place at the wall and it was the turn of the next next person along.

The rule was, if you wanted to stay you had to take a turn. If you couldn't sing or play an instrument you could tell a joke, do a dance or recite some poetry, do anything as long as you did something.

Everyone, good or bad got the same thunderous applause. it was one of the best nights out I've ever had.

I used to be the lead soprano in the school choir. I sang "the lord's my shepherd" at a service in st pauls cathedral, solo, in front of far too many people

then my voice broke. fortunately not mid performance

still show off on karaoke though (sadly for everyone else)
