when you put the qualifiers into saturday by default surely this problem should have been spotted several weeks ago? inventing a day 1D when facing a likely £100k-£200k overlay with 24 hours to go doesn't seem completely legit to me...

from the outset there were other tactics that could have been employed such as same day re-entry, faster structure early doors, or just simply a lower guarantee. i appreciate that you couldn't change any of these once the tournament started but these aren't shocking new developments they were all fairly obvious. i doubt the 4pm flight will draw a huge amount of uniques, it's more likely a last chance re-entry for those that have busted in order to cut the overlay.

People would just go in as alternates if they didn't do this, so I can't see much effect on the overlay.  It would have been my plan regardless.  That would have been if Rob hadn't just given away thousand in a sat on party poker anyway.

Kinda inclined to give Rob benefit of doubt re overlay considerations, I think argument that online quals for whom this is their first live event, or only one they play all yr, etc, should have a decent experience is a very strong one.  However, I do think some errors were made in planning stage that have led to a not great situation for all parties.

-structure.  agree 500bb deep to start is unnecessary.  would alleviate late reg problem if stacks were shallower faster.

-start day distribution.  It shouldn't really be a "we can now plan accordingly" that 1c >1a and 1b combined by a significant margin.  Fact its Sat is immaterial, its pretty intuitively obvious and would be true under nearly all circumstances.

-extend late reg.  why only first six lvls of day?  Especially when 1d entrants have a 10hr turnaround between an 11hr d1 and an, i don't know but I'm guessing at least that length again, and most likely longer, d2 - thats a pretty huge disadvantage.  IMO either 1c late reg (actually day 1s across board) should have late reg until at least end of lvl 9 or so, or day 2 should start later.  Since the latter change would have been tough to coordinate at a days notice I get why that option wasn't used, but the early curtailment of late reg kinda baffles me, esp when considered in conjunction w/super deep early structure.

The invention of 1D is to purely accommodate everyone. Rob made the decision having looked at the figures. Yesterday at the end of Late Reg only 24 players had been eliminated. So roughly 10% of the field. With the tournament being next day 're entry only we are only talking about a very very few amount of players that can actually even consider playing more than one flight today anyway. All Rob has done is requested that some people move to the latter flight to minimise any chance of an alternates list and queues

right but this was obviously going to be the case when you put the qualifiers into the 1c flight so why not arrange and advertise a 1d weeks ago? they could probably have even made it/added a turbo flight saturday night/sunday morning. just seems weird they got this 1c (and imo the structure) wrong when i know they put a lot of planning into these great festivals

that's fair Chris. think it would be admitted that the schedule and structure didn't work as planned this time round. ence the remedial action.

I think chopping out the first 3 levels and having a 1C at 10am and 1D at 4pm would've been a good way to go (from the outset, not changing the structure mid-comp obviously). Shame this added flight will look worse than it is to some people. I don't think it'll generate many re-entries at all from 1C to 1D. I like the progressive clock though 👍🏼
