I think, from experience, with these types of situations the biggest mistake you can make is "trying" too hard to do anything....

I used to play in a private game up north when I was playing full time, and I was a consistent winner in it, I saw other players come in to the game and "try" to give loads of action, "try" to give loads of banter, "try" to be involved in the table talk, "try" to disguise the fact they were winning, and it all looked so disingenuous that for no specific reason it got people's backs up a bit.

My advice would be, just be yourself (providing you're a good bloke) be amenable to the game, if everyone straddles put the straddle on, if people are showing cards show cards, if people are doing some silly game like 7-2 or quads/trips in PLO then go along with it, and respect that the game is how the game is because that's how everyone (including the winners, who are just as entitled to an opinion on what they enjoy as the losers, even if it might not be given the same weight) who makes up the game likes it to be. What you should never do is put on any sort of fake front or anything just to be in a poker game, firstly it's not really a good thing to do anyway but secondly I just don't think it works.

I guess if I were to give any single piece of advice for something which might require a change of strategy form how you would ordinarily like to play is that of locking up, I think that's one thing that will probably annoy people in the game more than being quiet, or not being involved in the banter.

Surely this is more like the old DTD scenario where the organisers of the game don't want a competent/good player in the line up rather than how UgotNuts actually behaved at the table?

If they thought he was easy money he would be welcome back even if he acted like a twat, but if they think he is going to reduce their take home they wont want him there?

Having a couple of days to reflect I can comfortably say that I got this reaction solely because I won big over the two sessions. I straddled, gave more action than any other player on the table, never berated players or got moody when I lost a pot. Got involved in some of the banter. The first night, one of the most talkative players (and now internationally known) was playing and didn’t stop trash talking all night was playing. Difference was he was down 3/4 buy ins and I was up about that much.

I play the game in a rather unique way and adjust constantly when in pots with different types of players.

One comment I got from a reg was I sheared the sheep too quickly and that was annoying...

The same reg told me he has been winning around 300BB per session. However he booked a loss over the two nights I played and I stacked him once.

I’ll just stay away from private games and just play cash when I bust out of comps or later in the evening if I bag up to day 2.

3) Delusional
4) A mixture of #2 & #3

Examples?

Because I never troll anyone- Isn't this something you do online to people?
Smug- Never been called this before, So I can only assume it was taken the wrong way.
Delusional- I can agree with this- I tend to be on my own level of thinking most of the time. I'm either crazy or a genius. Probably crazy.

Point being, I never mean any harm to anyone and I simply didn't deserve all the negative comments that was thrown my way.

Its in the past now, we have all played 1000's of hands since then and I'm sure everyone has forgotten how some kid played in a game.

Good luck to you at the tables- Hope you ran above EV.

What’s not even been mentioned is that people who organise private games often select pros who are their mates and guys who sell them a piece.

Maybe they can’t ask you for a piece because you’re bad and just ran hot or because you might say something which is bad for the people who don’t entirely know the score.

From your posts, it does sound like your behaviour may be a little weird and maybe that’s as much a part of it as winning.
