Any one found a good book that helps with getting an aggressive approach?

I have been reviewing my play over the last week or so and decided I am a poker wimp!  I dont have that need to win as much as others have and I dont know how to get it.

My play is too social and I need to change it.

How do others approach the game? Is there a book that has honed your approach? Is there an attitude you have on the table that you want to share?

Thanks

Tracey

Like H@££INGGOL ( He is on or is waiting to get on 9 $10/20 NL tables on stars right now...How can he concentrate on all those tables )

The total he had on these tables was over $68,500.   That is a nice position to be in.

I think "Reaching The Final Table" by Eric Lindgren is quite good for an insight into aggressive tourney play. Having started out reading TJ Cloutier's approach and the Harrington books, Lindgrens approach is very different. It's a very easy read, nowhere near as technical as the others I have mentioned, but I enjoyed it as a contrast to the others and aggressive play is the theme throughout the book.

Cheers.

have you read
The Psychology of Poker by Alan N. Schoonmaker
I've heard the book slated but I personally found it very useful in understanding other peoples motivations and styles of play, and also in developing a style I'm comfortable in. It's not a strategy book but it'll help you build a framework for you to learn within.

Try Killer poker by John Vorhaus , there is a live and online version. He talks about mindset and aggression a lot and sets little taske like " just raise 5 pots in a row and note the effect on your opponents ". Havent read it for a while but it was pretty good stuff.

IMO This approach has its merits and helped me loads - and as ever the best teachers are blonde.

Tikay's displays in the $250 afternoon tourney on lads are interesting 'Don't want a flop with JJ' is my favourite line.

Watching the Monkey perfect the tight aggressive image on stars.

As well as Riverdave and At-It on stars in some multi action generally guarantee some raise action.

Some bloke on ladbrokes FlushyP4C tends to edge towards the aggressive.

All worth a watch - helped me.

Isn't the new Hansen book along these lines. It concentrates on if you think he'll out play you push all in!!!

Thank you for the kind, complimentary words Nakor - the £5 i promised is being sent by monkey express post this afternoon.

However I believe you have missed the word "trying" out of the above sentence!! who knows, one day i may perfect it - but then there probably isnt one person on the forum who can say they've "prefected the game of poker".

Thats why its such fun Smiley

First poker book i ever bought was Poker for dummies, ( i await the piss taking ) But it is a great book for tight aggressive play. It has the fundementals of being selective with your aggression.

Other books worth reading are Phil Gordons the real deal and little green book. These give an  insight in to a slightly looser approach, although not as loose as Gus Hansen.

yes squire i know - and to be honest i'm still trying to perfect the image as well.

I'll know when i've succeeded when people stop calling my all in preflop reraises with hands like J-9 o/s!! (not that i'm complaining or want them to stop of course!! Wink)
