Why is it our buisness, does it get in the way of him running the country?

Well if that was his job it might....lol

What does he actually do? (apart from shagging secretaries and driving Jaguar's)

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but from what I heard I think he told everyone himself, therefore he has allowed his private life to become public. I might just've heard wrong though...

so presumably no politician of any party should have to resign over such matters? Cecil Parkinson? David Mellor? Ron Davies on Clapham Common? Mark Oaten with rent boys?

I've no problem with that view by the way, but the view you express isn't the way things have happened is it?

I suppose one could be of the opinion that him having an affair with his secretary was an abuse of his position.

Put the chicky in front of the highest court in the land and ask her if she would have diddled Mr. Prescott had he not been high up in Government.

Alternatively we could just leave her alone....

How do you know it doesnt affect his job?

How do you know what he had for breakfast doesn't affect his job. Does that make it newsworthy?

I actually could care less about him having the affair...it's the actual thought of someone wanting to shag the guy that is the shocking thing..although as people have said some are attracted to power.

This *has* to be the case in this situation.

I am presuming that this kind of thing is pretty rife in business, except we don't get to hear about it - because again as someone has pointed out - most people aren't in the public eye.

Is it our business? Well, I bet Mrs Prescott wishes it wasn't. It's her I feel sorry for.

So is the real issue here the power and agenda of the media that makes Prescott go public rather than be exposed and risk resignation, rather than Prescott's foibles themselves?

Of course.. I imagine he got a phone call telling him what they knew, and told him they were going to run it.

What could he do?

I've seen they way the tabloids operate..seen it happen to a good friend of mine.

The media needs to have power, as a collective it has done a far better job than any opposition party in the last 20 years of questioning government, and holding them to accord.

The focus of this power is all too often yielded irresponsibly, but that's our fault. We are obsessed with sex.

They wouldn't be printing it if we weren't buying the papers en masse whenever a story like this breaks.

Not of that kind... :-/

I certainly wouldn't be buying the papers to read about that one!

so was it ever thus tank? or is it just the fragmentation and multiplicity of media outlets that now feed this appetite?
