It's character building stuff
Playing with players who smell of piss and or sweat
Scruffy old men n women who are one bad beat away from being homeless
Waitresses who are so old they served frank Sinatra
with fake boobs blonde perms n varicose veins
It's great downtown

They had wifi last year iirc...

Seriously, Marky, it didn't reach the back room. It worked in the main card room but not where the actual poker was being played.

Is the Planet Hollywood $150 PLO8 on your schedule, tikay? You know...if you go..

My kind of buy in level for >2 card stuff and on the Strip...even if PH is my almost the opposite of what I like in a casino.

Downtown has a rustic charm in a funny way, but it's really dirty compared to the glass, marble and vacuum cleaners of the strip, IMO.

Planet Hollywood is a party boys' hotel, with pumping cheesy music, girls in bikinis and comedy boots dancing on the blackjack tables ("give it a rest, bab. I'm trying pluck up the courage to split a fifth eight, here!") and lights aplenty. I'm an old man who likes a comfy chair, access to hot beverages and good punctuation.

It is true, though, that there really is something for everyone in Vegas.

Think it worked ok on my phones, but I might have been one of the lucky few.

It's no Venetian, but I love it down there, and the lack of headphones is great.

You see, I'm the opposite - I can't abide all the noise, glitz & music at PH, it abso does my head in.

When I sit at home some nights & look forward to Vegas, Binons & PH are near the top of my list, I adore them both.

Sure, it's a bit disorganized & all over the place ("what seat & table number would you like, Sir?") but I adore Binions.

Completely unrelated, but there was some hoohah on Poker Stars over the weekend, their servers went down, probably a DDOS or whatever. Greatest site ever ever ever, 'Stars, right? And you'd cut them a bit of slack if things went wrong now & then, all things considered, yeah?

Forget that. Well they got MURDERED on 2+2 for it. One guy mentioined that "MY VEINS WILL RUPTURE IF THIS CONTINUES" as he sat & played his SNG.  And as I read all that bile, I could not help but think what lads like that would think of Binions, wih their cranky ways, wrinkly Dealers, & 80 year old Valets. It's a proper reality check, that place, & I love it to bits.

That's hilarious.

Yes, those downtown resorts are a completely different world to, say, Aria. You'd barely believe it was the same city. Kitsch décor with sawdust on the floor does actually have a place in Vegas and I wouldn't have it any other way. It just doesn't float my boat for long.

That's the beauty of the place, though. Don't like roulette? Play blackjack. Don't like posh food? Have a burger. Don't like expensive beer? Have fluorescent drinks in three foot novelty plastic receptacles. Don't like Celine Dion? Skrillex is on.

You going to be in the front row for Skrillex vs Celine at EDC?

Times like these you can look forward to Shaun the Sheep with the kids.

There is another hotel at Gatwick just opened, well there are two, but I only stayed at one of them last week.

We stayed here http://www.blochotels.com/gatwick/

We booked it early and there were two of us so got a decent price on an aspire room.   The room wasn't massive, but it wasn't tiny either.  The beds were comfy, the wet room was fine and the TV big enough.  Pretty much everything you need for an overnight stay before an early flight.

You could choose from every eating establishment before customs and got 20% off/10% off/free drinks vouchers for a fair share.

I am sure Tikay would have loved our view too, we were looking out at the approach, so saw all the planes coming in to land at close quarters when the blind was open.  The sound proofing must have been excellent, as I couldn't hear a sound from the planes.  I am sure Tikay could have stayed there a week looking at planes and loading up on coffee and sticky buns.

In the morning, our check in desk (south terminal) was an internal 100 yard walk at most from hotel reception.

I would recommend it.  Couple of things I am sure the cheap rooms are pretty small and the cheapest have no windows.  You will probably hate it if clostrphobic.  I'd also strongly recommend leaving the air conditioning on, the missus turned it off and it was unpleasantly stuffy a couple of hours later when I woke up.

just back from a great 5 days in Vegas. stayed in Treasure Island, and after being told it was a little down market from the others, gotta say i was shocked at home good it was. rooms were big, really smart and defo would go back there. Casino and poker rooms not as big and smart as the others but as a hotel it was great.
what a place, dont quiet realise how big and different it is till you are there. did a few things, helicopter tour of the grand canyon, saw penn and teller (front row seats!!), cirque du soleil and elton john with a few cash sessions at the wynn, venetian and bellagio.
great place!

I've been looking out for the Virgin sale (they had one this time last year, so was hoping for another this year) for an extra flight for a family trip to Vegas in May.  Currently have 6 seats booked, but need a 7th!  Does anyone have any inside info on a sale?
