In the trade it’s a top hat security cover - as opposed to a surface stop cock box !
It’s covering a gas or and ground water installation - which is a slotted pipe installed in a bh surrounded by gravel pack over the monitoring zone ,with plain pipe to ground level which is surrounded by bentonite-a clay mineral to prevent surface contamination passing down and to make any gas appear in the pipe !
All landfills / quarries have them and anywhere there’s a danger of water pollution or gas migration
I’ve installed loads in my time

There's a pair of robins who are obviously feeding a nest full of youngsters in the conifer outside my window.

They always land in a little rose bush before going to or from the nest. They are currently making about 200 trips per day.

I'm trying to get a good shot of them carrying food but I'm only using a little point and shoot camera and the light is pretty bad atm.

Been interesting today watching a Barn owl showing its supremacy over a Kestrel on who has the right to one of my nest boxes

The last five years on this particular box

2017 Kestrel

2016 Kestrel then a late brood from the Barn Owl ( two owls survived the runt failed)

2015 Tawny Owl

2014 Barn Owl

2013 Kestrel

Just been checking 10 small boxes and they all show signs of use

One of my daughters has a miniature dachshund puppy named Lincoln. He knows he's not allowed in her flowerbeds but he goes there anyway. When she tells him off his front end runs away gleefully and hides behind a plant pot, then, like a reluctant wingman, his back end follows, shuffling out of sight a few moments later.

I've been watching a documenter about the space race.

I've always reluctantly accepted the moon landings as fact because it seems like too big a lie to pull off, but lots of things niggle me.

Now, I'm not nearly so bright as I've led people to believe, but I do have a a good working knowledge of mechanics and an instinctive grasp of physics.

So, when the launch begins and those stabilising gantry arms fall away, the rocket is initially only moving at a few feet per second, why doesn't that great big lanky thing fall over or at least tip sideways?

I'll post my next question when someone has helped me with this one.

Falcon Heavy is a partially reusable super heavy-lift launch vehicle[9] designed and manufactured by SpaceX. It is derived from the Falcon 9 vehicle and consists of a strengthened Falcon 9 first stage as a central core with two additional first stages as strap-on boosters.[10] Falcon Heavy is the world's fourth-highest capacity rocket ever built, after Saturn V, Energia and N1, and the most powerful rocket in operation as of 2018.

SpaceX conducted Falcon Heavy's maiden launch on February 6, 2018, at 3:45 p.m. EST (20:45 UTC).[5][11][12] The rocket carried a Tesla Roadster belonging to SpaceX founder Elon Musk as a dummy payload.[13][14]

Wikinews has related news: SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket blasts Elon Musk's personal Tesla into solar orbit
Falcon Heavy was designed to carry humans into space beyond low Earth orbit, especially to the Moon, Mars, and potentially to asteroids for mining, although as of February 2018, Musk does not plan to apply for a human-rating certification to carry NASA astronauts.[15]

By the way I would of thought the power of the boosters keeps the rocket stabilised at take off

Thanks for the Falcon explanation. I remember all the hoo haa about the car now that you mention it.

I don't see how the power of the boosters keep the rocket stable. It seems the same removing the flights from an arrow and then expecting the power of the bowstring to make it fly straight.
