My bet went on Contador at 7/1 for the TdF overall as he was riding away from everybody yesterday in the Tirreno Adriatico.  Today he's been trimmed to 3/1

Time to start thinking about Milan-Sam Remo, one of my favourite races of the year, you know the season is really getting going when the Classics start Smiley

What are your thoughts for this one?  I think it's going to be really open this year, most likely to be won by a sprint from a small group once they've come over the Poggio, wouldn't be at all surprised to see Sagan finally bag a Classic although he seems to be half a beat off his very best at the moment.  I'm a big fan of Rojas so always a little biased towards him, but he was climbing very well in P-N and very unlucky not to win a stage, his form is obviously good and he has a chance of being in touch after the Poggio so I reckon he's a good bet and currently being offered at 100/1.

Good thinking though. In that sort of form, Contador might be a handful for Froome and his Sky posse. Wish I'd thought of it before the end of the race.

I'm afraid I don't have anything to add to this conversation, as I don't really go in for the sprint Classics. That being said, I am also a big fan of JJ (and backed him to win the Tour Down Under), and at 100/1, in the form he is in, he is definitely worth backing e/w. I notice that Skyebett are offering 4 places, so that is the route I would go down.

I would have to look at the course modifications for the 2014 edition to come up with anything else. For example, apparently one of the important climbs has been taken out (which is why Cavendish is riding this year). Also, how far is the Poggio from the finish line, and will it have the ability to split the field? PM sent.

It really all depends how hard they go up the Cipressa as to whether and of the big sprinters can hold on up the Poggio, if you've never watched it you really should, the last 20km's are always really exciting.

Here's the run in:

Bit of fantasy cycling fun if you fancy it, my team is already entered, happy to set up a mini league if enough interest.

A few thoughts on where I'm going on MSR.

I can't see many scenarios where Sagan will not be involved at the final, likely to be on the Poggio. No matter which way the race evolves, small group or 20-30 riders, he'll be there. Only two sprinters he fears after nearly 300 km of racing are Cavendish & Griepel. Both have looked away off their best in the past few weeks & Cannondale & teams like Trek will be drilling it to rid the sprinters.

The past two years he really should/could have won. If I remember correctly he started last years race at 2/1. With the 3/1 generally available looking a tad of value to me.

A couple of outsider covering bets...

I've been impressed with Roman Kreuziger this season. He's showing the sort of form that won him the Amstel Gold race in 2013. Cancellara will be heavily marked, Kreuziger, however could have opportunities to attack & power away whilst the favourites hesitate. 125/1 EW.

bad news for your man Sly I'm afraid, JJ crashed in the neutral zone and is out of the race.

I really should be a pro tipster, crashed in the neutralised zone and didn't even make it to the start, lol.

With this weather I think it will so to a strong man rather than a sprinter, lookin good for Sagan but I hope it's Spartacus.

Kwiatkowski and Renshaw out in support for Cav, but he's hanging tough in front of the peloton.
